yes, worked like a charm, of course :)
16:07

sigh
16:07* vagrantc thought the cmdline.txt updates worked

yes
16:08

the cmdline.txt one
16:08
good
16:08
<vagrantc>
gbaman: though next time, tell me the nature of the bug first :)
16:08
<gbaman>
i know, was about to then had to go
16:10
i do know the pi cant access the server
16:10
it complains
16:10
on bootup
16:10
but i am able to ssh from it to the server fine
16:10
<vagrantc>
does it prompt you for key verification?
16:10
<gbaman>
nope
16:10
oh yes
16:10
you mean when i ssh to it?
16:11
*to the server
16:11
yes, it does
16:12
<vagrantc>
that's the problem ...
16:12
you need an /etc/ssh/ssh_known_hosts that contains the line:
16:12
server YOUR_SERVERS_SSH_KEY.pub
16:13
i.e. server <content from /etc/ssh/ssh_host_*.pub>
16:13
one line per key
16:13
<gbaman>
The pi does not have an ssh_known_hosts file
16:13
<vagrantc>
you need to create it
16:13
<gbaman>
k
16:13
<vagrantc>
or, on the server, ltsp-update-sshkeys -export or something like that
16:14
ltsp-update-sshkeys --export -
16:14
that might work
16:14
cut and paste that into your pi.
16:15
hm.
16:15
that seems broken here.
16:16
<gbaman>
which key.pub....
16:16
the rsa one?

I am using ltsp on ubuntu andI am having issues with sound and freerdp. I have SCREEN_02="ldm" and then screen 07 set to xfreerdp. The LDM screen has sound, but the xfreerdp screen does not.
16:48
Has anyone dealt with this before?
16:48
Using --plugin drdynvc like freerdp suggests causes the client to crash and never come up
16:49
Didn't know if there is some tip someone could give me to help me get going. Can't get sound on a couple of machines that remote into a windows machine
17:00
<||cw>
gp: it's likely that without pulse or alsa or some other sound system that only ldm OR xfreerdp will be able to play sound
17:00
try not having ldm start? you can always start it manually
17:01
<gp>
i.e. don't add ldm to screen02?
17:02
trying that now
17:06
no luck

Figured it out
18:31
libfreerdp-plugins-standard wasn't installed in the chroot when I installed freerdp-x11
18:32
so the sound plugin didn't get installed until I ran apt-get install libfreerdp-plugins-standard
18:33
<vagrantc>
do you have recommends disabled?
18:34
or was recommends disabled when you installed freerdp-x11?
18:41
<alkisg1>
ubuntu has recommends disabled in ltsp chroots by default..
18:41
I think stgraber was planning to fix that in later versions
18:42
<gbaman>
it still isnt working vagrantc :)
18:42
<alkisg1>
...but I'm no longer using ubuntu ltsp packages, in favor of debian ones, so I don't know the details there :)

oops

<alkisg1>
Also, put a "start" parameter

Yeah it's that plymouth line that vagrantc fixed a few days ago

<gbaman2>
no, the server

hmm
19:44
<alkisg1>
gbaman2: on the client, cat /proc/cmdline
19:44
See if you have anything about nbd there
19:44
If you're using nbd, then you need to run ltsp-update-image

19:45
Would it be a bad thing if i cant remember if i am using nbd or nfs?
19:46
I thought i was using nbd
19:46
<alkisg1>
Err it appears you're using a local file system
19:46
<gbaman2>
sigh
19:46
<alkisg1>
What's the output of `sudo blkid`?
19:46
<gbaman2>
then why did that file reset on reboot?
19:46
<alkisg1>
Or, `cat /proc/mounts` ?
19:46
Because you're using a cow system (aufs) over the local file system
19:46
(copy on write)
19:46
(i.e. temporary)
19:48
<gbaman2>
http://pastebin.com/CQREQ2YZ
19:48
<alkisg1>
No nbd or nfs there
19:49
<gbaman2>
so it isnt actually working
19:49
sigh
19:49
<alkisg1>
So unless you really want local boot, you need to modify "root=xxx" in your command line
19:49
<gbaman2>
vagrantc?
19:50
vagrantc: Was your guide for an os on the sd card then automount home directory or was it for fat client?
19:51
hit discription of this bit is
19:51
#### Running rpi as an LTSP client off the raspbian image:
19:51
<alkisg1>
Where is that guide?
19:51
<gbaman2>
http://cascadia.debian.net/~vagrant/rpi-ltsp-howto.txt
19:51
still a bt rough
19:51
pi bit is at the bottom
19:52
<alkisg1>
# edit commandline.txt: add init=/sbin/init-ltsp boot=nfs nfsroot=192.168.67.1:/opt/ltsp/armhf delete the root= and rootfstype= entries.
19:52
Did you do those? ^
19:52
<gbaman2>
had not got onto that
19:52
still on
19:53
<alkisg1>
Those parts are done before even installing ltsp-client..
19:53
<gbaman2>
# FIXME: mount the firmware partition
19:54
was waiting for him to fix that bit
19:54
but thought seeing as it was complaining it couldnt connect to the server, that might be a different problem
19:55
<vagrantc>
it's two guides in one ... the first part is for making a thin client, the second for configuring the SD image to emulate a thin client
19:56
<gbaman2>
thats what i thought
19:56
but the second didnt work :)
19:56
<vagrantc>
worked for me
19:57
<alkisg1>
You didn't modify the ltsp-client-core file
19:57
You modified it in the aufs temporary instance
19:57
<gbaman2>
read up a bit, every time i edit the /etc/init.d/ltsp-client-core and reboot it looses it
19:57
<alkisg1>
Not in the real file system
19:57
<gbaman2>
so where is the real file system?
19:57* vagrantc agrees with alkisg1
19:57
<vagrantc>
it's in /rofs
19:57
mount -o remount,rw /rofs
19:57
edit /rofs/etc/init.d/ltsp-client-core
19:58
mount -o remount,ro /rofs
19:58
reboot

<gbaman>
right good news and bad news
20:08
I have a really nice looking login screen
20:08
but logins dont work
20:09
i just get no response from server
20:09
but making progress
20:12
<alkisg1>
Switch to SCREEN_02=shell (or anyway login as root locally),
20:12
and try: ssh pi@server
20:12
Don't replace the word "server" there, leave it as is
20:12
Accept the server keys when prompted
20:13
Press alt+ctrl+f7 to switch again to LDM (the login screen), and retry to login

<vagrantc>
gbaman: probably don't have the right content in /etc/ssh/ssh_known_hosts
20:19
<gbaman>
how do you switch to SCREEN_02=shell?
20:21
<vagrantc>
edit lts.conf
20:21
<gbaman>
oh, ok
20:21
<vagrantc>
but you'll need to do the /rofs trick again
20:21
<gbaman>
so ssh into the pi
20:21
<vagrantc>
well, you could log in on the console as pi and use sudo
20:22
ctrl-alt-f1
20:22
will get you to the console
20:22
<gbaman>
oh
20:22
good to know
20:29
..
20:29
it worked...
20:29
it finally worked...
20:29
it complained a bit
20:29
bit after clicking ok, it loaded lxde
20:30
and mounted my files
20:30* gbaman pats vagrantc and alkisg on the back

<gbaman>
what is the correct way to add users for ltsp?
20:32
my second user does not work, but it never worked anyway
20:32
<vagrantc>
add them on the server
20:32
<gbaman>
yes, but is there a special way to do it? a nice program?
20:33sbalneav has joined IRC (sbalneav!~sbalneav@mail.legalaid.mb.ca)

i also get this every time i log on

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1122948/temp/Photo%2002-04-2013%2021%2029%2003.jpg
20:37
<vagrantc>
gbaman: i think "adduser username" is nice.
20:37
gbaman: but there's some GUI utility in ubuntu
20:41
<gbaman>
well adduser worked fine
20:41
weird
20:41
i must just have a weird other user
20:42
now, to change the background
20:43
for ldm
20:44
so to make any changes to the base image, i have to ddo the /rofs trick
20:45
<vagrantc>
or power down your pi and put the SD card in another machine
20:45
<gbaman>
true
20:45
also, any idea how to set a template for new users?
20:45
<vagrantc>
really need to figure out berryboot to allow to boot with different boot options
20:46
<gbaman>
e.g. have files already in their home directory
20:46
in every new users home directory
20:47
and berryboot would be very handy
20:47
ability to boot into the local image with this or using your second method, the normal fat client
