<abortx>
Hi there!
10:49
<alkisg>
Hello
10:49
<abortx>
I'm trying to install PiNet follwoing the manual online, but got stuck at copy the files to SD card and boot from the raspberry pi..
10:50
Basically folllowed the manual from https://pinet.org.uk. I have a vertual machine (virtualbox) running as host. But in an earlier try i gto stuck at the exact same pint:
10:50
point :D
10:51
<alkisg>
pinet is not an official debian/ubuntu package and is not supported here, the author said to mail him instead
10:51
!raspberrypi
10:51
<ltsp>
raspberrypi: (#1) Ubuntu/LTSP on Pi 2: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/RaspberryPi, or (#2) Debian/LTSP (with raspbian chroot) on Pi: http://cascadia.debian.net/trenza/Documentation/raspberrypi-ltsp-howto/, or (#3) unofficial Ubuntu/LTSP (with raspbian chroot) on Pi: http://pinet.org.uk/
10:51
<alkisg>
The official methods are the first 2 ones
10:51
<abortx>
The raspberry pi shows a coloured square (and a small square in the top right corner). No text..
10:52
Os, sorry for this..
10:53
Maybe I should use a not-so-automatic install, now I have no clue what i'm doing ;) Hae a nice day!
10:54

<TheProf>
Hello. I hope everyone is very well today. I am using LTSP (Edubuntu 14.04) and it works amazingly well with old thin client hardware both as a thin client and thick client. However, new machines (anything with an i3, i5, i7 processor) will PXE boot but drops into busybox. On the ltsp mailing list it was recommended I use a newer kernel and xorg using:
13:57
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack
13:57
On that website there are three options under 14. but I'm not sure which one to use -- desktop, multiarch desktop, or server? The command to run is different for each and looks to substantially change the setup so I'm hesitate to run it without better understanding. Thank you very much.
14:44
<sbalneav>
Desktop would be the best use, unless you have a mix of i386 and amd64 processors
14:46
<TheProf>
sbalneav: Hello. I believe the oldest machines I now have on the network are Core2Duo machines. They are the majority (80%)

<sbalneav>
So they're all amd64
14:47
then use the desktop kernel.
14:50
<TheProf>
sbalneav: Perfect. Thank you very much!

15:59
So, there are some configuration options we should set for the authenticator
15:59
things like the command to get the userid and groupid, etc.
15:59
I'm thinking we should create a config file for the authenticator
15:59
/etc/pam-sshauth.conf, or whatever.
16:00
We can use the standard python config parser.
16:00
that way, users or distros can customize the way pam-sshauth runs, without resorting to having to patch the package.
16:00
Thoughts?

I've used raspberry too.

but I want to use debian main, and raspberry doesn't work with debian main.

Is there an arm build of LDM?

<lucascastro>
yeah, there is.
17:44
<sbalneav>
Well, what do the logs say?
17:47
<lucascastro>
what log? syslog on server side?
17:47
<sbalneav>
No, on the pi

17:56
<sbalneav>
ok, so when it gets killed, it should be syslogging to /var/log/syslog or messages or something.
17:57
If it dies when you try to log in, that sounds like it's having trouble forking the ssh. Is ssh installed?
18:01
<lucascastro>
yes, It is. But didn't I need inform some param instead of just 'xinit ldm'?
18:02
sbalneav, how can I debug the client initialization, by the way, the ldm isn't running default on client boot.
18:03
<sbalneav>
Dunno, I haven't looked at ldm for a few years, so I can't remember anymore. I'm working on coding up the replacement, switching to just using lightdm and a pam ssh authenticator.
18:03
keep an eye out for vagrantc, or alkisg, they can probably help.
18:03
<alkisg>
sbalneav: heya! About the parameters, for ltsp, we can let the sysadmin define them in lts.conf if needed...
18:04
<sbalneav>
alkisg: right, and have it write them out to a .conf file
18:04
<alkisg>
lucascastro: what's the output of sudo ltsp-info?
18:04
sbalneav: or, the pam-ssh script can just read the output of the new lts.conf itself, it should be quite easily readable
18:06
<lucascastro>
http://paste.debian.net/902040/
18:06
alkisg, ltsp-info.
18:06
<sbalneav>
well, remember that we want to make the pam-sshauth.py function as a separately installable package; I know we have some people using the C pam-sshauth module, we don't want to tie things too closely, for *this* piece, to ltsp.
18:07
<alkisg>
sbalneav: ah, ok, I wasn't sure that we wanted that
18:07
lucascastro: and the contents of lts.conf?
18:07
Errr what is the bpi.img?
18:08
Which image are the clients booting from, armhf.img or bpi.img?
18:08
<lucascastro>
bpi.img was another I was trying to use
18:08
armhf
18:08
<alkisg>
OK
18:09
Can you get a shell on the client?
18:09
<lucascastro>
by the way, I'm using nfs not nbd
18:09
yes, I can shell on the client.
18:09
<alkisg>
In jessie it works so it shouldn't matter
18:09
What's the output of getltscfg -a there?
18:09
!termbin
18:09
<ltsp>
termbin: To share the output of some command, run: command | nc termbin.com 9999 . This executes command , sends its output to termbin.com, and returns a URL. Paste this URL here to share the command output with us.
18:09
<alkisg>
So for example, run this in the shell: getltscfg -a | nc termbin.com 9999
18:10
(or just install epoptes which is very handy for such tasks...)
18:10
!epoptes
18:10
<ltsp>
epoptes: Epoptes is a computer lab administration and monitoring tool. It works on Ubuntu and Debian based labs with LTSP or non-LTSP servers, thin and fat clients, standalone workstations, NX clients etc. More info: http://www.epoptes.org
18:13
<lucascastro>
termbin.com doesn't works, I'm going to write by myself.
18:14
<alkisg>
lucascastro: I'd suggest that you install epoptes, it will help a lot in general
18:14
Since you're using nfs it should only need 1 minute and one client reboot
18:14
<lucascastro>
ok
18:14
doing that
18:15
alkisg, install on client chroot right
18:16
?
18:16
<alkisg>
epoptes on server
18:16
epoptes-client on chroot
18:16
see epoptes.org for instructions
18:16
you also need to copy a certificate
18:20
<lucascastro>
hey, I've noticed right now something that I don't know if it's a problem I running jessie on server and testing on chroot.
18:21
<alkisg>
testing has issues with nfs, but if it boots you're ok
18:23
<lucascastro>
good
18:39
done
18:41
<alkisg>
Do you see the client in epoptes when it boots?
18:42
If so, you can right click and open terminal > root > locally, execute commands there, and copy/paste the output from there while working on the server
18:51
<lucascastro>
alkisg, copy/paste doesn't work for my, by the way it's there http://paste.debian.net/902040/
18:51
<sbalneav>
About to dig in to adding in the final piece; public key authentication; then pam-sshauth.py + libpam_python are a plug-replacement for libpam_sshauth
18:52
alkisg: After I'm done with that in a few days, then I'll start to dig into your ltspd spec.
18:52

So, the pam-sshauth.py is, I think, *mostly* done; turns out re-adding the publickey auth is pretty easy in python, go figure.

having some issues with systemd and ltsp5, where the terminal always boots into tty1 due to the getty service, specifying RM_SYSTEM_SERVICES="tty1" doesn't prevent it from happening, and manually removing the getty.target.wants file for tty1 causes the system to lock up.
22:45
I'm kind of at a loss as to why that would happen. When tty1 is enabled it works fine and you can switch screens to display 7 and it launches the GUI.
