Hi, I'd like to ask a question, thanks a lot in advance for your help
11:35
I have a LTSP network running ok, with Kubuntu in the server.
11:35
I want to connect from a PC that is out of that network, in a way that I can simulate another thin client.
11:35
Could I use Xnest to do it? how?

16:26
<vagrantc>
urly: any x86 CPU would be fine for an LTSP server
16:26
urly: graphics on the server are irrelevent
16:27
urly: in general, more cores, more ram, more disk i/o, gigabit networking ...
16:28
urly: but it also depends on how many clients you're going to serve
16:28
<urly>
5-15
16:28
***(Gnome shell, LibO, FF, flash), **(eclipse, CAD), *(video edition)
16:28
<vagrantc>
also, if you have reasonably powerful clients, you can offload a lot of the processing to the client hardware with fatclients
16:28
gnome doesn't work so well for thin clients, generally
16:29
multimedia is also a problem for thin clients
16:29
<urly>
maybe fat for the 2-3 those, then
16:30
<vagrantc>
with fatclients, your server needs are very minimal
16:30
<urly>
i7 4c/8threads, xeon 3,5 ghz or amd fx 8 cores 4 ghz ?

ok, right, if you were doing shared folders, how would you do it?

well, every application seems to ignore it anyway

Hi
23:30
Is that possible to reach a LTSP Server over the internet using a VPN ?
23:40
<vagrantc>
gbaman: not too much, maintain it in debian
23:41
<gbaman>
vagrantc: it currently seems to be ignoring
23:41
<vagrantc>
gbaman: here's a list of all the things i've been foolish enough to maintain in debian: https://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=vagrant@debian.org
23:41
some are a bit dated
23:42
<gbaman>
SOCKET_GROUP=staff in the /etc/default/epoptes file
23:42
<vagrantc>
John_______: of course it's possible, but you wouldn't get decent performance for a thin or fat client
23:42
gbaman: alkis and Phantomas are pretty responsive to issues reported on launchpad
23:46
<John_______>
vagrantc: thanks for answering. I am looking for a solution to open a session on a distant server. I've tried x2go, VNC and xrdp. All these solutions looks to be very unstable, this is why I thought of LTSP + VPN
23:52
<Phantomas>
gbaman: Hey! What do you mean by ignoring? ls -l /var/run/epoptes; cat /etc/default/epoptes
