11:18
<alkisg>
I don't think there's a guide for that, but it's been discussed here previously, you can find the discussion in the irclogs archives, you need ltspfs in the chroot etc
11:20
<ncd209>
'-r disk:floppy=/mnt/floppy': enable redirection of /mnt/floppy to 'flo
11:20
-r disk:cdrom=/mnt/thinclientmount ??
11:22Phantomas has left IRC (Phantomas!~Phantomas@unaffiliated/phantomas, Ping timeout: 248 seconds)
11:23* alkisg thinks that the best implementation for that would be to launch the rdp screen script as a user, not as root, and to have everything mounted in /media with udev, not ltspfs
11:24
<ncd209>
ok
11:24
Ill have to get my head round that
11:25
<alkisg>
Just search the irclogs archives
11:25
What I proposed would be an upstream implementation, not a user configuration part
11:25
<ncd209>
alrighty then .. tnx

<baptiste>
hi I'm trying to install, using mint 13 mate (a sane version of ubuntu 12.04), but I'm getting this when runnning ltsp-build-client :
12:47
/usr/share/ltsp/plugins/ltsp-build-client/common/010-etc-hosts: line 3: /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/hosts: No such file or directory
12:48adrianorg__ has joined IRC (adrianorg__!~adrianorg@186.213.156.146)
12:52
<baptiste>
this is insane because if I create this file in the /opt/ltsp/i386 directory then ltsp-built-client refuses to run because the directory exists
12:53
<muppis>
IIRC, you can tell to script to not mind that directory exists.
12:58
<baptiste>
alright I'm looking at scripts . .
13:03
btw is the /etc/ltsp directory meant to be empty at first
13:04
I'm aching, lol

13:16
<Hyperbyte>
baptiste, ls /usr/share/ltsp/plugins/ltsp-build-client/common/010-etc-hosts
13:16
What does that return?
13:16
Oh sorry
13:16
I completely misread
13:16
The /opt/ltsp/ directory has to be empty for ltsp-build-client
13:16
ltsp-build-client creates a new client, can't overwrite an existing one.
13:18
<baptiste>
maybe I'm terrible at hacking the scripts,
13:18
<Hyperbyte>
baptiste, you shouldn't have to hack any scripts for LTSP to work

<Lns>
What's the most popular window manager for ltsp these days? I've tried gnome3 but it seems to have a lot of rough edges regarding rendering 3d stuff in ltsp. I've been using xfce with some success, but I'd think most people would go for a more 'default' wm..how does unity hold up?
18:56* vagrantc likes LXDE
18:56
<vagrantc>
works really well with LTSP, and there are few features i've heard that people actually need...
18:57
<bieb>
like which features?
18:57
<alexc123>
LNS: you have to go back to gnome2d in ubuntu 12.04
18:57
<vagrantc>
bieb: that's usually my response when people say it doesn't have all the features they want.
18:57
<baptiste>
LXDE is great if you want the most lightweight and simple,
18:58
<bieb>
vagrantc: ohh ok lol.. thought you knew of some cool features that people we looking for that LXDE has
18:58shogunx has joined IRC (shogunx!~shogunx@rrcs-67-79-182-232.se.biz.rr.com)
18:58
<Lns>
vagrantc, haven't really tried lxde i'll have to give it a go =) looks similar in goals to xfce
18:59
<vagrantc>
Lns: it's considerably lighter weight than XFCE, and i don't think you'll miss any features from XFCE
18:59
<baptiste>
Mate, a renamed Gnome 2, can work very well, it's what I've been using, on my local desktop

vagrantc, any cool ltsp features lxde has that xfce doesn't?
19:00
i haven't noticed anything slow about xfce at all, but i'm sure it can always be faster =)
19:00
<vagrantc>
Lns: it supports shutting down/rebooting the thin clients from the regular shutdown menu.
19:00
<Lns>
!!!
19:00
<ltsp>
Lns: Error: "!!" is not a valid command.
19:01
<Lns>
oh..nice!! love that. i'll definitely give it an apt-get
19:01
<bieb>
vagrantc: I know you do alot of ltsp testing.. what flavor linux you like most?
19:01
<Lns>
right now i have a script that ltsp-localapps/ssh to shut down tc haha
19:01
<baptiste>
lxde is very light on CPU use. a thin client, even a very slow one could use it as a local window manager
19:01
<vagrantc>
bieb: i'm a Debian Developer, and maintain LTSP in Debian, so ... i'm about as biased as you can get.
19:02
i honestly haven't worked much with other distro's LTSP implementations ... a little with Ubuntu
19:02
<Lns>
vagrantc, that's not a bad thing though, since debian is the best distro ever.... ;)
19:02
<bieb>
vagrantc: gotcha.. lol.. didnt know you were Deb.. thought you tested with more.. my bad
19:03
<vagrantc>
i did stir the fedora folks to finally create the LTSP branch by committing a bunch of stuff that was a proof-of-concept for fedora.

well, proof is a bit generous ...

I'm not sure we should list fedora and kiwi as "awesome LTSP-5 integration"... kiwi-ltsp is pretty much a fork last I checked and Fedora hasn't been updated in quite a while

Is there a way to specify NBD server IP via DHCP options?
23:08
I have a separate DHCP server and multiple LTSP X servers.
23:09
Moving to Ubuntu 12.04 now. I used to do NFSROOT but that seems to have changed.
23:10
<vagrantc>
should be possible on 12.04

Do you know the option? I see the NBD traffic keeps going to the DHCP server.

it should
23:13
Guest76542: i *think* root-path "ip.ad.dr.es:ltsp_i386" ?
23:13
we changed the syntax shortly after 12.04 to use the same namespace for NBD and NFS

option root-path "10.6.4.48:ltsp_i386"; but traffic never gets to 48
23:18
I see the packets going to the DHCP server though (tcpdump)
23:18
<vagrantc>
ah, so it doesn't even start booting the kernel?
23:19
you probably need next-server "10.6.4.48" then
23:27
<Guest76542>
Uhmmm. Our tftp is actually on the DHCP server. The problem is trying to get all the boot parts from that one and then re-direct all rootfs and X needs to localized servers within the network segments from the specific LTSP clients (we have a multi-segment network.

<vagrantc>
ok...
23:28
<Guest76542>
If I change the tftp to .48 and use next-server, I have now verified that I get a login screen (full boot).
23:29
<vagrantc>
how were you copying the kernel/initrd to the tftp server?
23:30
it's not a typical configuration to split the boot and root servers (dhcp is fine)
23:30
<Guest76542>
I copy the whole tree into it's own directory within the DHCP's tftp root.
23:32
I know it's not typical. Grew into it when we started having a big mess of thin clients on different distros with different hardware support. At one point the tftp was serving 2 debian distros and 2 ubuntu. It also handles non-LTSP thin clients and diskless stations.
23:32
Gives me lots of fun trying to remember what everything is there for :-)
23:32* vagrantc nods
23:35
<Guest76542>
I'll figure out how to fix the tftp now that I know the exact issue. Now I'm having problems with the login, ldm just sits there after entering the password :-(
23:36
I never used ldm before, I'm used to using XDMCP only. What's the best way to troubleshoot ldm?

Guest76542: are you able to ssh to your ltsp server using the same username/password?
23:52
Guest76542: that's basically all LDM is, a wrapper arounnd ssh.
23:56
<Guest76542>
Went into local LTSP client console -> Tested ssh to server (good) -> Tested X via X -query ... (good for failsafe session) -> Went to ldm and selected failsafe, after validating password it sits there (I can see some processes fired up at the server but no windows show up at the client)

though the failsafe should spawn an xterm
