hello everybody!
09:53
i am trying to start a thin client session with a zotac zbox id84 (nvidia) against a ubuntu 12.04 LTSP(Cluster). GLX modules load ok on the client but the session fails to start with ailed to load session 'ubuntu'". The .xsession-errors ogf the user on the client shows: "Session 'ubuntu' runnable check failed: Exited with code 1". I didnt create an xorg.config file for that client. should i do so? should that include AIGLX? I remember from
09:53
a few years that AIGLX was crucial to remote 3d to work. Is that still so?

Morning Folks - yesterday alkisg was helping me troubleshoot a display issue (client couldn't detect monitor settings, and could only use 1024x768, even though monitor is capable of 1366x768.
17:44
He suggested I test the 3.5 kernel to see if the drivers in there could work with the intel integrated graphics. I booted to Mint 14 (based on ubuntu 12.10) and it worked. He mentioned the possibility of running a 3.5 kernel in a chroot on a machine that was running 3.2 kernel.
17:44
Any thoughts on how I'd set that up? I like the idea
17:52
<||cw>
chroot in and install the newer kernel, then update-kernel
17:52
same as when you upgrade the kernel normally

||cw: The sources.list currently contains 12.04. What entry would I add so that apt-get update would know about the new kernel - or is it available already? I didn't think to check for that, actually....
17:58
<||cw>
maybe backports? more of an ubuntu question than ltsp
17:59
<Mip5>
could be backports - though I always thought "backports" was for older stuff, not newer stuff..
17:59
I'll look around and see what I can see.
18:03
3.5.0-19 is actually available in the current sources.list - it's not normally shown. I'll give it a shot.

porting old stuff to a new release would be simply porting.
18:43
backports makes newer stuff work on older releases
18:51
<Mip5>
oh - excellent - that's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm trying it now on a test box - do you whether this kernel will get regular updates when I run the general updates, or whether I'll have to pay special attention to it during routine updates and upgrades?
18:52
<||cw>
as long as it's from a source that maintains updates
18:55
<Mip5>
ok - well, the 3.5 kernel was in the "regular" repositories. I didn't have to add backports. I guess I should do that anyway though - just to be sure I'm able to select the right kernel.

Hey Gang - strange behavior on clients after adding backports and installing kernel 3.5.0.21 - the clients boot, but go to a black screen. If I hit ctrl-alt-f1 and then hit ctrl-alt-f7, I can get to the boot screen, and eveything works fine (and the resolution issue of before is solved).
