<dgroos>
Hi. Next school year I’ll be again running ltsp-pnp in my classroom but on Ununtu 14.04. This summer I’m creating the image on an arch 32 machine I was loaned and plan to clonezilla-it and burn it onto the arch 64 machine I’ll have at my disposal in the classroom.
02:21
Will this image created on the arch 32 work on the arch 64?
03:59
asked in another way, will the clonezilla image of the system that had been installed on an arch 32 computer, work when burned onto an arch 64 computer?
04:00
i’ll be back in several hours, thanks.

Ah, my X wasn't listening because -nolisten is the default nowadays

07:12
I have to provide a "-listen tcp" to X

At the moment I build a ltsp server by wich I managed to deploy a ubuntu image on thin remote clients... I wish I could deploy as well in the same way also a windowsxp/seven s.op to the clients... but it's not so clear to me how... any tips, advice, links ?!
07:26
<quinox>
http://www.ccboot.com/pxe-boot-windows.htm something like that?
07:27
Googling with the words TFTP and/or PXE should help
07:28
I had WinXP booting over TFTP 10 years ago... but I can't recall if it was a fully working thin/fat client or that it only booted the installation over TFTP
07:28
might have been the latter
07:37
<geekforever>
thx quinox... what I wish do of course, is boot a fully thin client and not starting with an installation over tftp...
07:38
<quinox>
yeah
07:43
now that I think about it, I have no idea how that would work with Windows and the whole enter-a-valid-key thingy

<raphr>
geekforever: http://www.ccboot.com/pxe-boot-windows.htm is the clue. On windows 7 images can be booted via iscsi. But you'll still need one image per thin client. Consider using dedup filesystem (available with 2012 R2) but don't even know if it is possible with iscsi.
08:07
For Key management, I suppose you'll need pro or enterprise and KMS server ont the LAN. But if your thin client are identical, this could work with OEM releases.

<raphr>
Alternative is to use LTSP as RDP client. this works well too :)
08:11
<geekforever>
at moment, I'm giving a glance on "windows to go"... I 've noticed that Windows 8 come with a live version... of course I'll look on ccboot. Unluckly I'm not so in deep on this stuff... it seems it'll be a uphill way. Could you give me a brief explanation about the need of a Key Management ?!
08:19
<raphr>
Key Management Server is a stuff available with Pro and Enterprise flavour of windows (7 and above). Works with at least 25 clients. You'll need special subscription on Microsoft to obtain one
08:24
Other possibility for education is dreamspark premium subscription. for a small yearly fee, you obtain Lab Keys, that are unlimited in number of activations.
08:24
<geekforever>
If have I understood, Key Management is related to handle the licence of this clients ? But If my need it is simply deploy an identical thin client with Windows Xp/7, also an dummy oem could make the stuff, as you write above ?! So ccboot could come in help to me to create the image of an installation... I think ?!
08:25
<raphr>
hummm. I don't wan't to be Microsoft vendor here :)
08:27
haven't tested ccboot. Can't tell. But I think if you foind a way to convert your gold image to vmdk or vhd, then you can deploy it vi ccboot
08:28
<geekforever>
ok I know what you mean ;-) seriously this is only for a quick test at moment, the idea is understand if I can reuse some thin client bought two year ago and never used... deploying ubuntu everything has gone right and we wish do a similiar test with windows before startting with some more serious...
08:29
so you don't think possible deploy windows client by ltsp, but only by ccboot ?!
08:34
<raphr>
Ltsp in not WinPE. It is definitiveley not possible. Alternative is to use clonezilla or image cloning stuff. This works well to deploy Windows on same hardware.
08:36
<geekforever>
ok... thanks ralphr and quinox for all your advice an time... have nice day, now dive in it's up to me ;-)
08:38
