Check if gbaman is available...
11:47
<gbaman>
J____: What's up?
11:50
<J____>
Having a problem with the machine not making it to the login. INITRAMFS prompt is available but /sbin/init-ltsp error exists
11:50
all the root files are on /root/rofs
11:51
<gbaman>
Have you checked the cmdline.txt file to check the IP address is the same as that of the server?
11:52
As described here? http://pinet.org.uk/articles/troubleshooting/boot-issues.html
11:53
<J____>
yes, it connects to the server
11:53
<gbaman>
as in you can ping it?
11:54
<J____>
can ping server from pi init prompt
11:54
<gbaman>
Ok, and you did check the cmdline.txt file IP address is correct?
11:55
<J____>
yes it is correct
11:55
<gbaman>
Ok
11:55
Can you open a terminal on the server and type ls /opt/ltsp/armhf
11:55
And is there a file/folder there called debootstrap?

nice so the file/folder debootstrap does not exist
12:11
<gbaman>
Ah, ok
12:12
So there is a whole collection of folders in there then?
12:12
(aka more than 4)
12:12
<J____>
yes
12:12
<gbaman>
Hmm
12:12
<J____>
it looks like a full installs worth of data
12:13
<gbaman>
Just to check btw, you are running PiNet and not Raspi-LTSP?
12:13
(Will say at top of control panel)
12:13
<J____>
that same data can be seen on the Pi but only on the /root/rofs not the /
12:13
yes PiNet 1.0.2
12:14
<gbaman>
Can you take a picture of the startup on the Pi, showing any errors and fire it over to the support email?
12:17
Or upload to imgur etc
12:17
<J____>
umm unfortunately not at work
12:18
I may be able to get clever with a VM
12:18
<gbaman>
So you can't test a bootup with a Pi?
12:19

I have it running on a Pi but cameras are not allowed

I need to be able to see if there are any errors on bootup, as by this point, 95%+ of boot issues would be sorted
12:22

<exebat>
Hi all
14:15
what would be the best distribution for LTSP ?
14:17
<ogra_>
ubuntu or debian
14:19
<exebat>
I currently use Ubuntu 14.04 but it has a problem with USB devices not being detected on boot until I replug them
14:22
I saw @alkisg mention that ubuntu is not using upstream LTSP but its own implementation so I wanted to ask if there is some way to use a newer version of LTSP on ubuntu
14:23
<ogra_>
err
14:23
ubuntu developed upstream LTSP :)
14:23
it moved into the hands of debian then though ... but gets synced regulary from there
14:24
i think you mix somethin up there ...
14:24
OpenSuSE uses its own implementation ...
14:25
debian and ubuntu always worked together on the upstream code
14:26
<alkisg>
exebat: where did you see me mention that?
14:27
<MarconM>
ogra_:
14:28
he mention that he uses debian
14:28
<ogra_>
MarconM, i know what alkisg uses :)
14:28
<alkisg>
Who uses debian?
14:28
<MarconM>
Me
14:28* alkisg wonders how these people got these impressions...
14:29
<MarconM>
kkkkk
14:29
<ogra_>
haha
14:29
<MarconM>
alkisg: .. sorry was val*
14:29* MarconM fill shame
14:29
<alkisg>
vagrantc is the debian ltsp maintainer, yes
14:29
<MarconM>
alkisg:
14:29
a couple days ... did u say that my problem with that files .. that are missing
14:30
pxelinux.0 bla bla
14:30
was easy too fix
14:30
<alkisg>
All your ltsp problems are easy to fix, except for one...
14:30
...that you can't decide what you want to use :)
14:31
<MarconM>
alkisg: i want to use lubuntu
14:31
<alkisg>
exebat: about usb devices, use a newer kernel
14:31
Although I'm not sure if it's an ubuntu-specific bug, of a version-specific bug
14:32
...but I did try with a vanilla 4.0 kernel and the replug issue wasn't there

<exebat>
Can you help me with the kernel issue ?
14:34

exebat: #ubuntu-kernel is the place for that
14:34
<exebat>
Should I update the kernel on host and then update the image ?
14:34
<alkisg>
They'll walk you through what's needed to pinpoint the issue
14:34
exebat: no, you should reproduce the problem without ltsp
14:34
<MarconM>
alkisg: i formated .. i wll install again
14:34
<alkisg>
E.g. with a usb stick or disk on the client that has the issue
14:34
MarconM: please stop talking to me about previous installations, you did that 10 times already
14:35
If you want my help, ping me when you have the issue at hand
14:35
<MarconM>
alkisg: i have .... i just asking .. coz i mention that once
14:35
<exebat>
All the clients have the same issue since I installed 14.04 - it worked just fine on 12.04 on all clients :(
14:35
<MarconM>
i have 10 instalation lubuntu ... but now i am home
14:35
a few hours ago .. i was on job
14:35
i ping u .. but i dind answers
14:35
sorry
14:35
<alkisg>
exebat: I had that issue too but on a remote pc that I couldn't provide good feedback for bug reports
14:36
exebat: do contact the #ubuntu-kernel folks, your issue is quite common
14:36
MarconM: as I copy/pasted yesterday, I did answer even 5 days ago, but then you left

14:38
<alkisg>
MarconM: ok, just don't tell me that I didn't answer
14:39
<MarconM>

14:39
<MarconM>
alkisg: ok .. u are right
14:40

alkisg: lubuntu 14.04 ok ?
14:41

14:41

<exebat>
One more thing - do you maybe know what error: unexpectedly disconnected from boot status daemon means ?
14:45
<alkisg>
exebat: ignore that, it's plymouth not terminating like it wants
14:46
<exebat>
but my clients wont boot - just installed clean 12.04 with epoptes and created image and I get this :|
14:46
and Gave up waiting for root device

exebat did you ltsp-build-client ? do you use nbdroot in kernel cmdline?
20:11
don't reinstall everytime you hit problem. it's not windows
20:17
the nbd0 is created somewhere in initramfs scripts before the nbdroot is mounted there in the nbd0. you have something wrong in kerne/initrd params or in the initramfs. i think so
