<alkisg>
Good morning
06:47
<fabzster>
alkisg, i installed ubuntu desktop and followed the guide and the client connected, it was running fairly well but I decided to rather use the gnome falback desktop, so so I followed the guide for that. now my client does not find th image tftp times out
06:48
i keep getting so frustrated, but I hope that if I persevere that I may see the light LOL
06:49
i definitely would not have gotten so far without your assistance
06:50
<alkisg>
The desktop environment is unrelated to tftp
06:51
<fabzster>
i hear you just thought I would mention what I changed
06:51
it still gets the dhcp info and I have not changed any network settings

Morning!
07:30
<alkisg>
Good morning
07:30
<FrozenZia>
alkisg: Yes, I AM able to log into the server after reboot and before logging in.
07:31
<alkisg>
...and remind me what the problem was?
07:31
<FrozenZia>
One bit of information that might help troubleshoot this need to restart dnsmasq...q
07:31
<alkisg>
After you ssh there, is dnsmasq running? What port is it listening on?
07:32
<FrozenZia>
is that AFTER I've had my setup working beautifully and running just fine, ...
07:32
<alkisg>
sudo netstat -ntap | grep dnsmasq, before and after the dnsmasq restart, might help you
07:32
<FrozenZia>
I "accidentally" installed atftpd or something along those lines.
07:32
<alkisg>
Did you remove it afterwards?
07:32
<FrozenZia>
alkisg: ok, I'll look into that.
07:32
<alkisg>
If atftpd hooks the tftp port, then dnsmasq won't start
07:33
<FrozenZia>
I'll swear I did, but I'll check that again as well.
07:33
Would that explain why simply restarting dnsmasq works?
07:33
<alkisg>
Not really, but it does need to be checked
07:34
<FrozenZia>
atftpd doesn't seem to be installed, but atftp is.
07:35
<alkisg>
do the netstat bit
07:36* vagrantc waves to FrozenZia

07:40* vagrantc waves to alkisg
07:40
<alkisg>
Hi vagrantc!
07:40* vagrantc sleeps
07:40* alkisg is trying to SRU an update-manager issue,
07:40
<alkisg>
that removes ltsp!
07:40
<vagrantc>
oooh, nice!
07:40
hrm?!
07:40
<alkisg>
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1415785
07:41
<vagrantc>
something to keep me awake!
07:41
<alkisg>
If someone happens to just ...lose ltsp-client and ltspfsd from 12.04, that's the one to blame!
07:41
Hehe
07:41
Nah it's under control, go to sleep!
07:42
<FrozenZia>
alkisg: BEFORE restarting dnsmasq I still get a line like this: tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:53 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 1353/dnsmasq
07:43
(and another similar one for tcp6)
07:43
(and scratch the "still" - not sure why I said that)
07:44
<alkisg>
Only :53, no tftp?
07:44
No 67, 69 etc?
07:44
<FrozenZia>
no.
07:44
hold on. I gave sudo netstat -ntap | grep dnsmasq
07:45vagrantc has left IRC (vagrantc!~vagrant@freegeek/vagrantc, Quit: leaving)
07:45
<FrozenZia>
Should I have given some other command?
07:47
<alkisg>
No, now try the same after doing dnsmasq restart
07:48vmlintu has left IRC (vmlintu!~vmlintu@a91-152-200-70.elisa-laajakaista.fi, Ping timeout: 246 seconds)
07:49
<FrozenZia>
fwiw here's what -ntap shows without grepping dnsmasq: http://pastebin.com/jBUV121Z
07:50
after restarting dnsmasq I get: tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:53 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 3071/dnsmasq
07:50
(and the other similar one for tcp6)
07:50
<alkisg>
FrozenZia: sorry don't put "t" it filters for tcp only but we need udp too
07:52
sudo netstat -nap | grep dnsmasq
07:52
Again, before and after
07:52
I.e. when it does work and when it doesn't
07:53
<FrozenZia>
http://pastebin.com/jBUV121Z is updated for the AFTER, but will need to now restart the server again...
07:56
<alkisg>
$ sudo netstat -nap4|grep dnsmasq
07:56
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:53 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 3952/dnsmasq
07:56
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:4011 0.0.0.0:* 3952/dnsmasq
07:56
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:53 0.0.0.0:* 3952/dnsmasq
07:56
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:67 0.0.0.0:* 3952/dnsmasq
07:56
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:69 0.0.0.0:* 3952/dnsmasq
07:57
That's a working one ^
07:57
So, ports 53, 67, 69, 4011
07:58

07:59
<alkisg>
Yes, it looks fine
07:59
And what's the exact problem?
07:59
(that is solved with dnsmasq restart...)
07:59
No tftp?

BEFORE the restart, clients say forbidden directory...
08:01
<alkisg>
What user does dnsmasq run as, before the restart?
08:01
Are you using ldap or anything?
08:02
<FrozenZia>
not using ldap.
08:02
how do I know the user it runs as?
08:02
<alkisg>
ps aux|grep dnsmasq
08:03
Also, what's the output of this? ls -lhaR /var/lib/tftpboot
08:04vmlintu has joined IRC (vmlintu!~vmlintu@a91-152-200-70.elisa-laajakaista.fi)
08:08
<FrozenZia>
hmmm -- not sure how to interpret the ps aux output.
08:08
It's in the pastebin now.
08:10
ls output is there as well.
08:15
<alkisg>
The ps output says it's running as the dnsmasq user
08:15
The ls output says you have some non-standard permissions and owners in your tftp, but I don't see anything very wrong there
08:16
sudo find /var/lib/tftpboot -mindepth 1 -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
08:16
sudo find /var/lib/tftpboot -mindepth 1 -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;
08:16
sudo chown -R root:root /var/lib/tftpboot
08:16
Maybe those will help ^

<JuJuBee>
Yep, 8G quad core workstations
16:41
<markit>
JuJuBee: urgh!!! what a FAT!!! my servers are much much less, lol
16:41
JuJuBee: do you mount home with nfs or sshfs?
16:41
<JuJuBee>
My server is just one of my workstations LOL
16:41
markit not sure. where do I check for that info?
16:42
<markit>
try in the server /etc/exports
16:43
defaults with sshfs, but maybe nfs is more stable or different or just a matter of trying something else and hope
16:43
<JuJuBee>
no exports file
16:44
<alkisg>
Run eclipse from a terminal and watch its output
16:44
Also run it on the server and see if it works there
16:45
<JuJuBee>
alkisg: one of my user accounts can run it fine...
16:45
<alkisg>
What is different in that account compared to others?
16:45
No compiz?
16:45
<JuJuBee>
I read somewhere that multi-user eclipse suggests read-only for the install folder. I just changed and update-image....
16:46
<alkisg>
eclipse goes to /usr/share which is read-only by default
16:47
<JuJuBee>
alkisg: when I downloaded eclipse and extracted the tar there was no installer. I just copied to /opt/
16:47
<alkisg>
Why didn't you install it from software-center?
16:47
sudo apt-get install eclipse...
16:47
http://packages.ubuntu.com/eclipse
16:47
<JuJuBee>
alkisg: dunno
16:47
didn't think of it
16:48
<alkisg>
OK, start there
16:48
Don't use software outside the package management system unless you really have to
16:49
Don't forget to run the uninstaller *first*
16:49
Then install using apt-get
16:52
<JuJuBee>
alkisg: if I didn't use an installer to begin with, do I need an uninstaller? Can't I just rm the directory
16:53
<alkisg>
Sure, but wasn't there any command to integrade it into the system?
16:53
How do the users run it, from the command line?
16:53
No menu entries?
16:53
<JuJuBee>
we added menu entries manually
16:54
<alkisg>
OK
17:15
<JuJuBee>
So I have another problem. I installed codeblocks with apt yesterday and not it has unmet deps and I cannot correct it. I cant purge it either... apt is currently broken
17:15

17:19
<alkisg>
Wow, it's incredible, google has already indexed your pastebin paste!
17:19
<markit>
alkisg: scaring, isn't it?
17:19
<alkisg>
Truely!
17:23
<JuJuBee>
yes, very
17:23
Any ideas? I have tried installing all deps manually but not working
17:26
<markit>
JuJuBee: I would try to remove the offending file /usr/include/codeblocks/externaldepsdlg.h and hope, but alkisg is far better than me
17:27
JuJuBee: really apt is a great tool, but I've found myself sometime in corner cases and "solve" was a pain
17:28
<JuJuBee>
thanks markit
17:28
I will try
17:32
markit: no joy :(
17:33
<markit>
a different error I guess
17:39
<JuJuBee>
Think I might have a solution....
17:40
rm /var/cache/apt/archives/codeblocks* && apt-get purge codeblocks* libwxsmithlib0 libwxsmithlib0-dev seems apt is working again

mj: you need to install whatever applications you want in the LTSP environment, and then set SCREEN_07=kiosk
19:40
mj: maybe a few other KIOSK_* lts.conf values
19:40
none of which are apparently documented in the lts.conf manpage... :/
19:41
<mj>
so similar to Windows TS, build the LTSP Server with what I need, then basically build out the Kiosk conf with what they would have access to?
19:41
This is for PARCC / Pearson TestNav
19:42
<vagrantc>
no idea about windows TS
19:45
hrm. the KIOSK_* values aren't documented in ltsp-docs ...
19:46* vagrantc sighs
19:46
<vagrantc>
basically, KIOSK_EXE should be the path to what you want running as a kiosk, and KIOSK_WM is the window manager you use (although i think it has sane defaults)
19:47
<mj>
And this will prevent any other popup, update, etc.. from running?
19:47
I should only have access to what I specify in the files?

I am trying to set up a remote access through x2go to a lab, but I would like to do it from another lab as a screen... has anyone done this?
