Hello , anyone in here managed to cluster LTSP in a easy way?
i belive you can use a list of servers on LDM_SERVER or a script that checks "load/usage/whatever" and returns a server and the client with use that server.
Appiah: We develop ltsp-cluster at Revolution Linux
no hot failover tho
i have not used it in production. but i have tested it and it works
stgraber oh , is that package done in ubuntu now?
|09:18||* Appiah fires up the ltsp labb|

Appiah, the ltsp-cluster stuff does load balancing and decides to which server your client logs in based on the load a server has ... so indeed its a matter of client *and* server
|10:27||hanthana has joined #ltsp|
but I mean ,
after the client is logged in
is there anything running on the client?
like a cluster-thinclient app?

How do I assign special drivers based on PCI ID? I have found what appears to be assignment here: /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/xserver-xorg/pci, but making changes doesn't seem to work.
Appiah: there are some docs available on the wiki (https://wiki.stgraber.org/LTSP-Cluster), it's basically installing the packages and changing a few variables
I am trying to get the via drivers to be loaded automatically instead of the openchrome drivers for the PCI ID 11063122

stgraber, hi, can you have a look at http://prime.cyberorg.co.in/ltsp-cluster-control/Admin/admin.php and see what am i missing? i cant find where to add clients from
yes it was a good time, trying to get everything setup for all of you in up there
CAN-o-SPAM: hey, so how did the logo contest go?
vagrantc: i've been out of town for 3 weeks, so later today i plan on "cleaning that up" i think we're missing some votes though

CAN-o-SPAM: Am I not supposed to vote ? :)

Hey, #ltsp. I've just put together my first Ubuntu-based terminal server, and I've noticed a bit of a hitch involving local usb devices, like thumb drives: when you pop one in a thin client, it shows up on everyone's desktop. Has anyone else bumped into this?
Keaton: probably your users need to be in their own primary group
Keaton: using ldap or some other remote authentication?

Is there some way to change the PnP mount script to make it accessible to the user that initiates it, rather than the group, that you know of?
you'd have to patch the C code and recompile the ltspfs package
|11:23||twinprism has joined #ltsp|
vagrantc, you experimented a bit with nbd cow, how did it go?
Urck. That's a bit over my head. Thanks anyway, though.
Keaton: just figure out how to add each user to their own primary group (the first group)
vagrantc: That is my plan B, but it's a bit messy on the server end, so I was hoping for a way around it.
cyberorg: long time ago ... don't really remember. filed a few bugs as a result...
cyberorg: bugs on NBD
Keaton: less messy than your other options :)
vagrantc, ah, this is in continuation of our pursuit of finding aufs alternative :)
cyberorg: NBD cow should work great, but there were a few limitations ... like it only allowed you to write to the cow file if the source file was writeable, it had to sit right next to the source file, that sort of thing...
vagrantc, discussion there seem to have died on that bug
|11:31||_Shane has left #ltsp|
yeah, i filed it a year ago
i'm sure a patch would likely spurn some interest :)
whats wrong with aufs ?

_UsUrPeR_, on my way out, whats up ?
wondering how a server selects which driver to use for a client's video card
I'm looking in here: /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/xserver-xorg/pci
Where I see the PCI addresses
thats how it works nowadays
ok, so I have reassigned a PCI device to use the via drivers instead of openchrome
if there is no xorg.conf it will look at the PCI ID and assign the right driver to it
yet it still boots w/openchrome. is there someplace else I need to check?
ogra: yeah, no xorg.conf here. I need this automated in case our customer is using a combo of via and intel-based thinclients
there are several layers of mechanisms though for backwards compatibility, i'd suggest talking to tjaalton or bryce or someone else in #ubuntu-x
ogra: rgr. what is their capacity?
|13:10||hanthana has quit IRC|
they know more about it than me
ok, cool. thanks a lot
_UsUrPeR_: it is harad coded in a C source file
_UsUrPeR_: it doesn't use the text tables during runtime
_UsUrPeR_: some distros add their own non-standard detection before xorg.conf
warren: oh. is that for both ubuntu and fedora? I'm using ubuntu right now
_UsUrPeR_: Ubuntu I think uses a non-standard detection thing before xorg.conf, but that isn't used with LTSP I think.
afaik there are three layered detection mechanisms
_UsUrPeR_: Fedora has a blank xorg.conf and relies on X autodetection
the upstream one is first in ubuntu
if that fails it falls back to /usr/share/xserver-xorg/pci/<card>.ids
and if that doesnt work there is another one i dont remember we inherit from debian
xorg.conf overrides them all
how do you detect if it fails?
X itself would fail to start if that fails.
sometimes fail means "get stuck and don't exit"
instead of failing it parses the ids
as you said, if it doesnt find a matching hardcoded id it moves on to the .ids files
oh, that kind of fail
and if that fails there is a debconf based mechanism iirc
and if that fails too there is vesa
and the ubuntu config tool
which automatically tarts up on non thin clients to help you configure an xorg.conf

Ah, 8.10 - sorry, I thought 9.04
the actual error it's giving is "Target filesystem doesn't have /sbin/init"
"no init found/ try passing init= bootarg

Critical time for the project
Did you look at the Squeezbox thingy?

had a good weekend out there
Quiet here. Does Scotty drop in now and then?
yeah, but he's been mostly not here lately
something going on at work I think
Even at night?
I just texted him
we'll see if he shows up

he just replied. he's at the office still. he said he'd pop in when he gets home
I'll be asleep I think. Hard to keep my eyes open
well, flying all day?
Yes, and working all the way. 9 1/2 hours
Throw in five hours time difference
Result is fatigue
yeah, not to mention the metric conversion
Well, installing power outlets in the seats was not a step forward ;-)
plane fully loaded today?
No excuse for not having the laptop out anymore
Not too bad. I think the Tampa run is a special case. About ten wheelchairs, lots of grey hair
That London flight is *the* reason it's Tampa *International*
Coming back from DC ten days ago, it was very quiet
Heh, I've been "working the Hill" :-)
