Hello all, Im new to ltsp and ubuntu admin in general, I have a new thincan DBE60-1 which Ive added to config, when I fire up box I get a kernal panic -not syncing: Attempting to kill idle task, I have a newer model DBE61 working well on the network since install last week. Any ideas what I should do
ogra, local storage devices are not getting detected at client side..
amol, talk to the room please
not a person
unless a conversation has already been started
johnny talk to the hand eh?
cyberorg, it's something i see over all sorts of rooms... folks need to learn nettiquette
amol, you need ltspfs installed on the server, and many tiny details correct in the chroot
ubuntu does a fine job with that tho
|04:52||bobby_C has quit IRC|
|04:52||bobby_C has joined #ltsp|
cyberorg, can you tell me tiny details??
cyberorg, the last problem was that stuff wasn't even being seen on plug
i am not seeing any log event when i am plugging pen drive
but before installing ldm i was not getting login screen ..was able to access local hard disk and pen drive in terminal mode
after installing ldm automayically ltsp-client ltspfsd got removed..
now if i plug in pen drive on server that pen drive as well harddisk of server able to access
at client workstation
ldm comes by defualt
why did you mess with it?
if i was you.. i'd regenerate a new chroot
johnny, means?? what i should i do?
regenerate new chroot?
amol, look at all debian ltsp packages closely, what it installs in the server, in the client, what files it adds, modifies etc
just doing it trial and error is waste of your time
you can ask if you dont understand anything after you have gone through the list of pieces that makes ltsp and the files they install
|05:27||mikkel has joined #ltsp|
|05:28||exodos has joined #ltsp|
amol, some information is available here http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/IntegratingLtsp that may help, although bit outdated
cyberorg, i am having one doubt..when i am craeting any doc where it should store on server /home/user/ or /opt/ltsp/i386/home/user/
for me it is storing at /home/user/
/home/user on the server
then why /opt/ltsp/i38x/home folder is created??
for local device to work, ltspfs should be installed on the server, and ltspfsd should be running in the client
cyberorg, ltspfs in chroot enviornment or as ltsp-server?
<cyberorg> for local device to work, ltspfs should be installed on the server, and ltspfsd should be running in the client
|05:33||bobby_C has quit IRC|
|05:34||mikkel has quit IRC|
amol, home can be used for local apps, which will be more easily available in future releases
amol, delete your /opt/ltsp/i386 and redo ltsp-build-client
what we wil happen after doing this??
once again generating tree will solve any problem?
you broke it
amol, all configurations are supposed to be done automatically when the client is built, manual intervention means messups
by removing stuff or adding ldm or whatever you did
ldm should already be there, you're not supposed to install it

like student1, student2
Are you talking LTSP5?
As far as I know, yes
in lts.conf LDM_USERNAME = test LDM_PASSWORD = 123456 LDM_AUTOLOGIN = True
ok,, then I just set the station by mac?
Hi cyberorg, didn't know you were in here
Petaris, yes, if you have 11.0 installed, you can have easy-ltsp generate lts.conf
ahh, I am using SLED 10
|09:19||ogra has quit IRC|
Petaris, copy in lts.conf generated elsewhere or manually edit /srv/tftpboot/KIWI/lts.conf
I am in the lts.conf file now
already made a backup
you can at least use easy-ltsp to look up all the variables that you can use, put the variables under [MAC] section
then I just have to figure out how to find the mac addresses on the clients :)
Petaris, /var/log/messages on the server

i personally just ssh in and do all my work that way.. i don't even know how to use vnc :(
yeah, they just have nice scripts and stuf on the root desktop to copy icons to users desktops and everything
I am just now fianlly going to try and use it as I have a server that can handle my 15 clients
guess it is a centOS thing, just tried to gedit a file after su root, and it fails to launch
jammcq: hey, jcastro told me you could be interested in having a look at https://wiki.stgraber.org/LTSP-Cluster (work in progress)
Shane-S: Sorry, I've never turned on remote root login through VNC. Maybe under System->Administration->...?
Shane-S: And, to be honest, I wouldn't. Why not use something like FreeNX instead, so at least you get some encryption in the mix?
its not a big deal, I just need to edit the config file and I can't really fit in my closet, I might just have to work with vim
Shane-S: Either way, you'll have better luck in #centos
Shane-S: If vim scares you, use pico/nano
is nano pico?
cause pico isnt on there
it's a pico clone
but open source
some systems link the binaries so both names work

Petaris, looks good to me, does writing MAC in all caps make any difference?
not sure, according to the docs it shouldn't
but I will give it a try
Petaris, this is /srv/tftpboot/KIWI/lts.conf ?
it causes it to just blink at boot
just like it did before the CONFIGURE_X=True was in there
at what point?
nope, that didn't change anything
at the point of starting X
did you check if the username and password are valid by doing ssh from another machine?
yeah, its valid
though it asks me for an NDS password too
Petaris, you should be able to log in using just provided username and password
ldm autologin with work only then
had to modify /etc/pam.d/sshd and remove the pam_nam.so stuff
but it boots and logs in now
mention somewhere in troubleshooting

not sure it should go on the LTSP/SLED one as it won't be experienced by people who haven't been trying to get novell logins to work

nope, just add http://en.opensuse.org/LTSP/Troubleshooting
autologin should not have many trouble to fill its own wiki page :)

hey guys, if I am running gnome on my server, and I want to try KDE out on a client, what should I change?
this is pertaining to Fedora
the ltsp-client-launch doesn't have a Desktop="gdm" line in there
and /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/sysconfig/desktop refers to this: DISPLAYMANAGER=/usr/sbin/ltsp-client-launch
it doesn't use gdm
it uses ldm
set it on your server
if you know the proper session starter
you can add LDM_SESSION
with the path
to your lts.conf
Didn't someone just ask this on the list?
I think you need to set your default x-session-manager via the
update-alternatives command to default to KDE. That should do it. - Scott
