10:19
<ijal>
iam following this link http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1040198 and now still installing firefox on chroot .. hope will running well
10:21
<knipwim>
that should work, although it was written some time ago
10:21
with 12.04 you can probably do ltsp-chroot instead of the plain chroot
10:21

a friend of mine (sort of) says can't print from fat clients. The cups server is set as "share", and the printer has Shared Yes in printers.conf
10:46
but in the cups log I find:

E [06/Jan/2013:11:44:00 +0100] Request from "192.168.20.105" using invalid Host: field "server"

<otwieracz>
Hello.
16:20* vagrantc waves
16:22
<otwieracz>
LTSP requires some kernel modules?
16:28
<knipwim>
sure, depending on server or client
16:28
NFS Server modules if you use nfs to connect to the server for instance
16:34
in most distributions, the defaults are enough i think
16:34
<otwieracz>
So LTSP is not only Linux?
16:36
<knipwim>
don't know
16:37
if you are asking if ltsp runs on bsd for instance
16:38
<otwieracz>
Yes, I'm certainly asking about FreeBSD Terminal Server Project.
16:39
<knipwim>
does freebsd have some kind of kernel?
16:39
<markit>
otwieracz: Linux is the kernel, GNU/Linux is the OS that clues together a huge amount of Free(dom) software, ltsp uses a lot of this stuff plus some config / code /etc
16:40
<otwieracz>
Thats why I'm asking if LTSP is kernel-specific.
16:40
<knipwim>
we do use fuse
16:41
<vagrantc>
otwieracz: yes and no
16:42
otwieracz: i've worked on porting LTSP to FreeBSD kernels (namely, Debian GNU/kFreeBSD), but LTSP makes a lot of linux-specific assumptions.
16:42
<otwieracz>
Uhm.
16:42
<vagrantc>
it's not entirely impossible, but it's non-trivial.
16:43
there are other thin-client implementations for FreeBSD or FreeBSD-based systems.
16:44
I gave a lightning talk on dgkfbsdtsp a couple years ago :)
16:46
for laughs: http://meetings-archive.debian.net/pub/debian-meetings/2011/debconf11/low/783_Lightning_Talks.ogv

<markit>
how can I share a dir with nfs without having user problems? I want everyone to be able to read
18:28
without having to care about users mapping among client and server
18:28
any idea?
18:29
<otwieracz>

22:40
<otwieracz>
Hmm.
22:40
Everything on LTSP is calculated client-side or server-side?
22:41
eg, cpuburn on terminal will burn terminal cpu or server cpu?
22:42
<vagrantc>
if using LTSP for thin clients (the default) the clients log into the server and the applications run on the server.
22:42
<otwieracz>
Server's rootfs is visible from thin clients?
22:43
<vagrantc>
yes.
22:43
it's kind of like the thin client is another monitor/mouse/keyboard to the server.
22:46Phantomas has left IRC (Phantomas!~Phantomas@ubuntu/member/phantomas)
22:46
<otwieracz>
Roger that.
22:46
It is difficult to integrate LTSP with unspported distro like Crux?
22:52
<vagrantc>
depends on if you have someone familiar with crux.
22:52
who really knows it well...
22:53
<otwieracz>
Generally, what is required?
22:59
<vagrantc>
build a chroot with all the dependency packages installed, install ltsp-client*, ldm, and ltspfsd* into the chroot ...
23:00
configure NFS or NBD to export the environment somewhere
23:02
<knipwim>
also some unfinished docs on packaging might help, http://wiki.ltsp.org/wiki/Packaging
