greets vagrantc ... any news on whether u're coming to Sevilla?
02:43
<vagrantc>
nubae: i'm going to check out the trains tomorrow ... i might spend a couple days here, a few days in sevilla, and maybe a few in granada before heading back
02:43
<nubae>
cool, Granada is really nice, especially the Alhambra
02:44
and if u like hiking, going up to Sierra Nevada is especially nice too
02:44
<vagrantc>
and it being the hottest time of the year, who would be foolish enough to go to sevilla or granada?
02:44
nubae: yeah, definitely hoping to get into the mountains ...
02:44
<nubae>
yeah, Sevilla is pretty hot, Granada will be better
02:44
<vagrantc>
speaking of hiking... there's a day-hike ... haven't really left the venue since i got here ... so gotta run

highvoltage, I'm actually working with jaunty... perhaps updating to karmic will fix things?
03:01
Thing is I was following instructions using openvnz from stgraber's wiki... I guess there shouldn't be too much difference if I upgrade virtual machines to karmic...
03:08
<highvoltage>
nubae: hmm, where did you install the ltsp-cluster packages from?
03:09
<nubae>
stgraber's ppa
03:09
Jaunty though
03:09
<highvoltage>
nubae: ah, yes, I believe there has been some upstream fixes since his ppa packages as well
03:10
nubae: if it's just testing, then it would be very useful trying out the karmic packages out on karmic
03:10
nubae: although I haven't tested it enough myself yet so I can't recomment it at all for a production environment
03:10
<nubae>
yeah, cool, will upgrade
03:11
its not production, I'm testing to see how it works, and then we deploy in September
03:11
hopefully its a solution that will work out for our older schools in our autonomous region
03:12
<highvoltage>
I had so many places I could use it a while back. Not sure where I'll use it now but I'm sure they'll pop up :)
03:12
<nubae>
in their infinite wisdom the newer schools all have cutting edge wireless connections :/
03:13
so they'll run wireless for a year maybe, then realise it doesn't work, and have to cable everything up...
03:14* nubae can't decide if wireless is a blessing or a curse
03:15
<highvoltage>
it's a blessing... but not if it's abused
03:17
<nubae>
well, the biggest issue is that it seems to be in fashion, so people think they are upgrading by eliminating a perfectly good wired infrastructure
03:17
which in the case of schools, is a really bad idea
03:18

Hello, I am having a problem that I was hoping to get some help with. I have an Ubuntu LTSP server that is serving a "fat" client image to about 12 clients. Everything is working great, but most mornings when I come in to work at least half the clients are completely locked up and require a reboot. Does anyone have any ideas of why this would be happening or where I could look in the logs to pinpoint the problem?
08:46

sbalneav: sabayon seems closer now. It opened a window first, then crashed.

you probably should uninstall syslog on the client entirely

hey, about a couple of years ago we tried to use some thin clients with AMD Geode processor and we had problems with video.
12:11
Anybody here use geode processors with LTSP ?
12:11
I need to know if the problem is solved
12:21
<leio>
mhterres: what problems?
12:21
<mhterres>
well, when we tried to use it, X started with errors and we can't use the thin client
12:22makghosh|afk is now known as makghosh
12:22
<mhterres>
We talked with sbalneaves, but our client decide to use another client and the problem "disappear" :-)
12:23
but now we had another client that had a lot of geode thin clients and I was wondering if the problem was solved or continues
12:33
<leio>
mhterres: what errors, I've not heard any such problems. I guess this is just generic then, not video (as in, mplayer, etc) specific?
12:33
mhterres: what Geode model (GX, GX2, LX)? etc
12:33
<mhterres>
GX500
12:36
well, X starts but I didn't work
12:40
<Lns>
mhterres: there used to be issues with the geode chipsets - depending on your dist, if you update fully (chroot as well) you should be OK..although the geodes aren't incredibly powerful
12:40
I have a geode client in my office and it's kind of "meh" when it comes to smoothness, etc.
12:40
<mhterres>
Our client want to run local app in the geodes

I imagine that :-(
12:43
<ogra>
and especially FF 2.0 wasnt very ram friendly, i'd even go with 3.0
12:43
<mhterres>
yes
12:44
and what do you think about 256 mb ?
12:44
<ogra>
and for your initial question, geode generally isnt very well maintained upstream ... there are efforts going on but every intel client will be a safer bet
12:44
<mhterres>
I know
12:44
the problem is that the client already had a lot of geode clients :-(

this isn't technically an ltsp question, but i've got a requirement for an ltsp server to allow some users lan access + internet access and some users just lan access. all need a browser so you can't just hide it from some users, can you create iptables rules for this and base it on a user group or something? or is there a better solution that i can do on the ltsp server w/out a router/firewall?
15:26
maybe force all http traffic that isn't lan bound (we have some web apps on the lan) through a squid proxy and require auth for it? that seems like a pain though.
15:26
<rjune_wrk>
matttttt: yes, there is an iptables module to allow by user
15:27
or by group too I think
15:27
If you already have a proxy, I would use it.
15:27
if you don't, by group might be the easy path
