<rac_>
how to configure the desktop background in lts.conf ?
04:47
anyone can help me ?
04:53
<sbalneav>
rac_: That's configured from the desktop
04:53
Not in lts.conf.

<rac_>
sbalneav: if I am in the Desktop configuration settings that only changes in one client only. but I want to change at all client LTSP
05:51
<sbalneav>
rac_: LTSP doesn't handle desktop config
05:51
You'll have to use whatever deployment tools are in the desktop.
05:51
<rac_>
the configuration in LTSP Server
05:52
<sbalneav>
LTSP just delivers the desktop
05:52
The actual desktop settings need to be done within the desktop management.
05:52
i.e. within mate, you'll need to set things within the dconf system, etc.
05:53
I'm heading to bed.
05:53
Good lucj.

<bennabiy>
All of a sudden, I cannot ssh to my server from a fat client, although everything is working from the client
15:39
too many authentication failures
15:39
even when I configure it in .ssh/config
15:41
but if I log into a tty, I can ssh
15:42
just not from a terminal within a session
15:45
<sbalneav>
What's your environment look like in the terminal?
15:45
Specifically, what's $HOME?
15:45
<bennabiy>
I think it was ssh-agent getting involved
15:45
I just added my own ssh key to my authorized_keys and now it works
15:45
I added a new ssh key for GitHub
15:46
probably sent me over the 5 limit
15:46
I just thought of that
15:47
sbalneav: do you work with LDAP at all?
15:48
<sbalneav>
All the time.
15:48
It's what we use here at Legal Aid.

No

16:52
<bennabiy>
How do you maintain it? Do you prefer command line, phpLDAPadmin or something else?
16:53
I am looking into possibly writing a frontend to allow our users to be able to maintain certain aspects of their entry, without needing to know LDAP

bennabiy: command line.
19:11
And I don't allow the users to touch nothin'
19:11
Guarenteed way to have things mess up.
19:11
<bennabiy>
sbalneav: do you script it all, or manual?
19:11
<sbalneav>
It's bad enough they get to pick their own file names.
19:12
some scripting, some manual
19:12
<bennabiy>
sbalneav: true.
19:12
HAH!
19:12
what is the best way to delete all leaves below a branch, without including the branch
19:13
say I want to delete all entries below ou=People,dc=lab
19:13
<sbalneav>
"Why can't I have a file name like 'accounts recievable 2/2/2 & other stuff;'?
19:14
<bennabiy>
ouch
19:14
<sbalneav>
I'd probably use shelldap to do something like that, and just cd into the branch, and do a rm *
19:14
shelldap is your friend.
19:14
<bennabiy>
never used it
19:14
in the repos?
19:14
<sbalneav>
apt-get install shelldap should do the trick.
19:14
<bennabiy>
wonderful@!
19:15
debian as well?
19:15
<sbalneav>
yup
19:15* bennabiy rejoices
19:15
<sbalneav>
you'll need a .shelldap.rc
19:15
something like:
19:15
server: ldap.legalaid.mb.ca
19:15
binddn: cn=ldapadmin,dc=legalaid,dc=mb,dc=ca
19:15
<bennabiy>
documented I am guessing somewhere
19:16
<sbalneav>
bindpass: hahahadidyouthinkiwasgoingtopastethat
19:16
basedn: dc=legalaid,dc=mb,dc=ca
19:16
then just say "shelldap"
19:16
youi get a command prompt
19:16
ls shows you ther trees
19:16
cd allows you to traverse
19:16
rm deletes
19:17
<bennabiy>
mv ?
19:17
<sbalneav>
vi cn=blahdeblah to edit
19:17
yep, mv
19:17
cp as well
19:17
<bennabiy>
groovy
19:17
<sbalneav>
yeah
19:17
makes life easy.
19:17
<bennabiy>
Does it make mate?
19:17
<sbalneav>
no
19:18
<bennabiy>
I guess nothing is perfect
19:18
<sbalneav>
It doesn't make life that easy.
19:20
<bennabiy>
man says that if you bind successfully from cli, it will generate the .rc file automatically
19:20
is it better to generate it ahead of time, or just do it from the first call?
19:20
<sbalneav>
I've been using it for so long, I can't remember.
19:20
years.
19:20
"whatever works"
19:21
<bennabiy>
thank you so much
19:21
glad I asked
19:22
I have primarily used YALA for doing basic work, which I recently forked and updated to work with newer PHP, but it is still somewhat limited in what it can do
19:23
<sbalneav>
I find shelldap strikes the balance for me. Easy to use, intuitive (for a shell user), doesn't involve setup like a webserver/php/etc, and can be used anywhere (you can ssh from/to)
19:24
<bennabiy>
I like it
19:24
I guess you could even set it as the shell for an LDAP admin user
19:24
maybe that is a bit risky
19:26
<sbalneav>
prolly :D
19:28
<bennabiy>
Wow... I like it!

bennabiy: weather-wise, we've had an unseasonably cold december and january
19:41
<bennabiy>
I was wondering, because ours has been quite warm
19:41
<vagrantc>
bennabiy: almost a foot of snow dropped a week ago and hasn't melted, expecting freezing rain today
19:41
<bennabiy>
I am jealous
19:41
we got about 8 inches about a week ago, but it lasted a day
19:41
<vagrantc>
i think this is the most days below freezing we've had since i came to the northwest ~16 years ago

19:48
<gehidore>

19:49* gehidore lurks up in washington north of the mayfield lake
19:50* vagrantc spent a season or two in lewis county years ago
19:51
