Just returning from a "vacation" -- my 1225e isn't pick up the DHCPOFFER, when others are. What's the procedure for going after this issue?
(like, does disklessws have a support line or..?)
was it working before ?
I suspect some surge issue, though it's on a really expensive power block
send email to 'email@example.com'
I've changed the network cable to the one I'm using now
are you seeing the request ?
ie, on the server, in /var/log/daemon, do you see the request from the client?
has anybody changed anything?
There's also a spurious 'connection reset by peer' or something in there too
I'm waiting for my assistant to get in, but I dunno what he could have changed.
maybe I'm wasting your time
this is in the middle of the logs
smbd: read_data: read failure for 4 bytes to client 192.168.169.15. Error = Connection reset by peer
what's smbd doing in there?
(before and after this are the offer/discovers for .15)
I have no idea.
Maybe weird/malformed UDP things?
well, if it's smbd complaining, you must be hitting one of the ports it uses
makes no sense to me
Me neither. I'll try to wireshark it and see just what is going on
(prior to bothering your support@)
got a win laptop in your net that has a dhcp server running ?
also, if you do send email to 'support', include a copy of your dhcpd.conf file
|06:55||* jammcq has to head in to the office|
ogra: Well, I don't know for sure.. like I said, I did just return from vacation. However, if one of these dolts figured out how to install not only a win server but a win dhcpd service, I'll eat my hat.

That's akin to me learning to split the atom using the hammer in my shed.
XP had one included in the early releases iirc
not sure if they kept that
Huh. Well I'll see. Thanks for the pointer.
(beta XP was actually the last win i've ever seen to be honest)

btw is that a way to limit the memory Xorg can use ?
when using a big presentation with openoffice, xorg uses a lot of memory
the terminal has 128 megs of ram and 32 megs of swap
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 108868 105708 3160 0 0 9744
-/+ buffers/cache: 95964 12904
Swap: 32760 32760 0
so the terminal is border line to kill xorg

well, one of an uncountable set of mental ones
it's usually the solution that's hard to find ;)
Gadi: can you tell me what the general area was, in case it's a problem I have, too? :)
heh, if you are setting up dhcpd failover, make sure you get the port and peer port right on both sides - or better yet - make 'em the same! ;P
|11:50||* moquist nods sagely|
yeah, I know you knew that
hey, any bad reason to have a 5-minute mclt?
instead of an hour
3600 seems pretty darn excessive to me
but, I havent had that drink yet
|11:51||* moquist googles mclt|
"Montgomery County Lands Trust" ? Hmm.
i thought you were one of the dhcpd failover wizards
|11:52||* moquist has found it|
heck no, not a "wizard"
we're using it in production, but I've never messed with the mclt or even the ports.
I just basically configure two servers enough to know about each other and keep track of each other, but I haven't done any further fine-tuning than that.
ah, do you set yours to 3600
as in the docs?
Oh, right. *That* number.
|11:54||* moquist has configured this, like, four times, ever.|
We're using 1200.
I'm sure I copied and pasted it from a webpage telling me how to do this.
Or maybe a man page.
ok. ill bump mine up from the whimpy 300 that I put
Gadi: have a drink!
ah, while I have you, there is someone I need to intro you to
I met someone at a local LUG who got up and was talking all about Software Freedom Day ;)
he's the organizer
I asked him if he knew you, and he hadn't heard of you
that's how you know you've started something huge
that's "who is he", abbreviated too much.
Heh; well, it feels good when things like this happen. :)
his name is Joe Apuzzo
from Poughkeepsie, NY
Great; I'll watch for his name this year.
|11:59||* moquist has seen The French Connection|
if I remember I'll send you both an email intro'ing each to each other
|11:59||* moquist is wondering if Gadi will make the connection|
Gadi: I've been less involved this year than I have been in the past, so that's another way he could've slipped through. (I've had nothing to do with divvying up the supplies this time, for example.)
|12:00||* Gadi tries to remember the french connection|
It's something about picking your feet, or toes, or something.
heh, as if not knowing me is "slipping through"...
indeed it is in my book

wondering if you've been able to get local devices working with users connected to an smbldap server
my problem right now is that group IDs don't sync up
monteslu: yeah, that's what we run
gotta sync 'em
|12:50||* moquist tries to remember|
i need a fuse and admin group with the same ids as on the ltsp server
fuse is something like 137 on ltsp, but when i add it to smbldap it goes to 10002
I created an LDAP group named "fuse" with id 115
can you specify the id when creating the group?
|12:57||GAWildKat has left #ltsp|
any chance I can bug you for the syntax? my googling yesterday didn't provide much in the way of smbldap command parameters

how do i install the i386 and amd files? can somebody point me to a howto or some documentation pls.
estong_, you can use either one
amd64 dists pose some problems with things like firefox flash/java plugins
but if it's worth working with to you, all the other apps are compiled for 64-bit so it would benefit in speed
u mean i can use debian i386 or amd to install as server OS?
amd 64bit cpus should always be 32-bit backward compatible

One thing that I'm wondering about is that my new computer has a really good graphics card and my other computers have really bad graphics cards. I do 3D programming and modeling so is there any way I could make it do the graphics processing on the ltsp server?
the graphics card on the server has NOTHING to do with the graphics displayed on the thin clients
