val_: using LTSP?? For some reason, I'm not very surprised...
ye. client load ltsp
val_: ltsp does not speak the Windows TS protocol!
val_: not unless you use the RDF client that is.
in lts.conf i try put "RDPSERVER = 192.168.0.13"
what is rdf client?
i want to see result like http://linuxgazette.net/issue93/levkovich.html
val_: ok, then you're using the rdp client. What's the problem? I don't think I can help much, I've never used it.
ok found my problem
my /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/X11/xorg.conf was wrong
used vmware hardware, cause the ltsp runs on an virtual machine ...
thx for the gelp daduke ;)

that's something i need.
i had to hack the python ldm to give that functionality
the developer of ldm2 has autologin working
but many other folks do not
and the patch isn't integrated upstream
ldm2, that's the one written in C?
excellent. i need to install ubuntu to a box and build me a new chroot.
hopefully there will be an update for gutsy, the patch just needs to be slimmed
but my C is mostly poor
my C is excellent. A little rusty these days from lack of use, but I used to be fluent.
there's a few things i still want in ldm, trying to get my C knowing friend to do it, but he is kinda busy
i wanted timed autologin

my clients wont boot and display Mounting /rofs on /root/rofs failed: Invalid argument... this issue is known but no one has posted a resolution
mattwalston: sounds like the initramfs cannot find your rootfs
ahh... I scrolled up - looks like you are on amd64 but building an i386 chroot
chances are you built that i386 chroot second
and my guess is that your dhcpd.conf file still points to an amd64 chroot
so, check /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf and make sure references are to: /ltsp/i386/pxelinux.0
and not: /ltsp/amd64/pxelinux.0
then, restart dhcp
|13:55||zodman has quit IRC|
negative, in fact that is an extra problem
dhcpd.conf is hard coded as i386
could nbd be the problem?
** (process:19101): WARNING **: Could not parse config file: Unknown error
mattwalston: check /etc/inetd.conf
Gadi: it appears normal
Gadi: anything specific?
keep an eye on the ports
Gadi: both refrence the correct port
default is 2000 for nbd
for a second chroot, it will increment and have a kernel param
and, ps -ale|grep nbd
does it show nbd processes?
it should once you boot the client
when i attempt to start I get:
** (process:19145): WARNING **: Could not parse config file: Unknown error
** Message: Nothing to do! Bye!
it should run out of inetd
dont start by hand
now this machine has xinetd
ah, that could be the problem
did you uninstall inetd?
you should use one or the other - not both
inetd is recommended
no, did not uninstall
|14:08||rance1 has joined #ltsp|
do you need xinetd?
i am removing xinetd as it was only installed to get tftpd to work
or just more comfortable with it?
tftp will run out of inetd
after you remove xinetd, restart inetd
then, reboot the client
it is doing more
Id like to setup ltsp in a lab setting for testing, problem is that the lab already has a working dhcp/pxe/tfpd environment complete with scripts that launch diskwipers, memtest, etc via the network, how hard would it be to integrate ltsp into that environment as a boot option from one of the menus?
I should say that dhcp/dns/tftp is all provided by dnsmasq in the lab
anyway to autologon a user for ltsp? idealy creating 2 x sessions
|14:32||rance1 has quit IRC|
mattwalston: you on gutsy or feisty?
ideally, LDM_USERNAME and LDM_PASSWORD in lts.conf
but I hear there are bugs in gutsy's autologin
but, give it a try
Gadi: that causes X not to load
ah, then there is a patched ldm somewhere
check the ldm bugs on launchpad.net
Gadi: also, what can be done to tweak start-up and operational speed? all hardware is identical
Gadi: oh I see
you can use LDM_DIRECTX
to increase session video performance
Gadi: is their a complete list of options somewhere?
I knew you'd ask
i have found a few partial lists but nothing seems official and complete
oh i see
in the comments, it points to a file on your server
nobody ever reads the comments ;)
change it there not in tftpboot?
no change in tftpboot
read the comments
that should have been: yes - change in tftpboot
Gadi: i see in docs
np - gotta run

can anyone give me a url for a howto on getting PulseAudio working in Gutsy thin clients? I don't see it as an option in System -> Preferences -> Sound, and my gnome mixer applet is complaining too...
I forget how I got it going last time
I think you need the sections on esound and gnome and maybe the package pulseaudio-esound-compat which sets up a few things too
lns: sorry bad eyes made me spell your nick wrong
yikes..yeah, the perfectsetup page is nice but i know PA should be installed by default in gutsy..just not sure about ltsp chroot install (or if it needs anything special)
heh..lots of people do that
pulseaudio-esound-compat sounds familiar thou
its late, my eyes are red and burning and it still won't load the blasted nvidia module...I thnk I have to stop now. Nearly there though..
hmm...hopefully it's not as hard as getting ATI Radeon drivers going =p
I had to give up on pulseaudio as it seems to be alsa only and I of course use OSS. Ugh Radeon. Pulleeze. I had a work laptop with radeon chipset and it was a nightmare
WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?? lol
That was before the AMD takeover. I remember reading some topman's blurb over how wonderful and open things would be from now on. Did they get there yet I wonder? ;-)

can anyone tell me what that package is for, exactly?
guys, i setup a printer in client1. from client1 i can print to it ok. but from another client or from the server, i cannot print to it. do i need to set any configuration for it?
ari_stress, afaik you have to set it up in lts.conf
the error message is "host is busy. will retry in 30 seconds"
lns, i have setup the printer in lts.conf for client1. should i setup again in lts.conf for another client that wants to print to it?
ari_stress, how did you specify the client in lts.conf - mac, ip, hostname?
also, i ran into a problem with printing a couple weeks ago regarding apparmor (a new package regarding printing security in gutsy)
lns: using mac, is it correct?
ari_stress, mac should be fine
i'm using feisty, how do i check for apparmor?
ari_stress, check https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cupsys/+bug/155530
