What Linux flavor is easy to set up for RDP to auto login as Windows user from server at boot

Something kind of out of the box ready, or with a good easy guide to set up for this purpose. Thank you

hi im currently using ltsp with ubuntu 12.04. i want to connect to a cisco vpn with the network manager. the problem is that the fatclients network cards isnt managed by the network-manager and wont connect. i tried to set managed=true in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf but now the fatclient won't boot anymore (can't connect to cifs). is there a way to use the network manager with ltsp and cifs?

is it possible to manage the network interface of a client and still boot it?

11:28
<JustSomeGuy>
uh i should read my questions before hitting enter sry
11:28
i meant is it possible to manage the network with the "network-manager" that comes with ubuntu on a client?
11:29
i tried to set managed=true in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf but now the fatclient won't boot anymore (can't connect to cifs)
11:32PhoenixSTF has joined IRC (PhoenixSTF!~rudi@lidet.uac.pt)
11:37
<vmlintu>
JustSomeGuy: The wired connection on ltsp clients is brought up way before network-manager starts, so the connection is setup already
11:38
JustSomeGuy: If you start managing it with network-manager, it looses its IP, I think, so the client looses its nbd connection to the server
11:41
<JustSomeGuy>
vmlintu, what can i do about that?
11:41
vmlintu, can i tell the client to reconnect after loosing the ip?
11:42
<vmlintu>
JustSomeGuy: when it looses the connection, the applications usually don't work anymore
11:42
JustSomeGuy: why do you want to use network-manager?
11:43
<JustSomeGuy>
vmlintu, i need the network-manager to use vpnc
11:43
vmlintu, i already tried the cli version but the configuration we get from our vendor sadly only works with the network client :/
11:44
uh i mean it only works with the network-manager-vpnc module
11:44
and the network-manager will only establish a connection if a managed wired connection is avaivable
11:49
<vmlintu>
It doesn't work if there's wifi connection?
11:49
Or any other type?
11:50
I've never used vpnc, so I don't know what it exactly needs, but I wouldn't try to solve it by giving the nbd client connection interface to network-manager
11:53
<JustSomeGuy>
we dont have wifi in our clients just wired connections und yeah i think its a "feature" of network-manager to check if there is a connected interface but network-manager apparently can only check managed interfacess hence the activation of "managed=true" in the configuration
11:53
i remember that there was an option of ndb-proxy to reestablish a connection (we used it with our failover system) but i can't remember where to activate that
12:17
<Zaphoid>
Sorta got the auto-login working, but the lts.conf located in the tftp directory is still ignored.
12:19
JustSomeGuy: I've never had luck with NetworkManager managing an interface with any kind of network based root filesystem.
12:19
JustSomeGuy: Be it plain ole nfs root filesystem, or LTSP, never works reliably.
12:35
<JustSomeGuy>
Zaphoid, yeah im currently searching how to enable the persist mode for the nbd-client in ubuntu maybe that will work :/

Hello all
13:44
Been away from LTSP for a while, last used it back on 4.2
13:44
Just trying newest version from Ubuntu repositories and have an issue
13:45
Seems the latest versions run over SSH for security? My client is booting but X is very slow to respond, thin client CPU use show high utilisation on SSH when I move the mouse etc.
13:46
Is there a way to disable SSH use for the time being so I can perform testing with out it?

building using:

Mint 13 is the host (built around 12.04). Enjoy the LTS aspects
20:55
<vagrantc>
sure
20:56
Zaphoid: do you have scripts in /usr/share/ltsp/plugins/ltsp-build-client/Mint (or whatever "lsb_release --codename --short" outputs)

I had this working, but had too many wrong steps in the original image. So rebuilt and now I'm stopping there. Can't figure out what I'm doing differently.

Very true

Because I will have to be rebuilding this in the future.

I understand how that is.
21:15
As I said, I got it working (mostly). I'm likely going to start with plain old ubuntu in the near future, because there's no point in having mint be the host.

Same work on fat client, either way.
