17:33
<Simon_>
I'm using freerdp to connect to W7 machine -- member of a domain
17:34
it goes to SCREEN_06 as SCREEN_06="xfreerdp -x 87 -f <hostname>"
17:34
and SCREEN_07 is for ldm
17:35
<alkisg>
And the question is?
17:35
<Simon_>
It boots fine and I can see default ldm session as expected, I hit Ctrl_Alt+F6 to switch to W7 session and it works so I can login
17:36
The problem comes when after running W7 session as described above I login to the same W7 host from another RDC, say from within ldm while using Remmina
17:37
I can see abnormal resource utilization caused by spawning Winlogon + logonUI + csrss processes
17:38
<alkisg>
So the problem isn't related to ltsp at all? It would be there even without ltsp?
17:38
<Simon_>
It's like SCREEN_06 session tries to compete for resources with Remmina session and creates multiple winlogon processes
17:38
No, the problem is related to LTSP
17:39freedomrun has left IRC (freedomrun!~freedomru@unaffiliated/freedomrun, Ping timeout: 246 seconds)
17:39
<Simon_>
When I do 2 sessions to the same host using xfreerdp from ldm
17:39
<alkisg>
So with a normal, non-ltsp ubuntu installation, if you run both xfreerdp and remmina, it would work fine?
17:39
<Simon_>
it switches fine between them: as soon as new session is started the old one gets terminated
17:40
<alkisg>
And if you run xfreerdp from non-ltsp-client1, and then ssh -X to non-ltsp-client2, and run remmina from there?
17:41
(that emulates what you did with ltsp, one running locally and the other one at some server...)
17:41freedomrun has joined IRC (freedomrun!~freedomru@unaffiliated/freedomrun)
17:42
<Simon_>
I didn't test it outside totally ltsp environment: I only played with SCREEN-based freerdp session vs xfreerdp which runs from ldm
17:42
<alkisg>
It doesn't sound ltsp related, so I'd suggest that you find some way to reproduce it without ltsp, to simplify testing, and then notify the xfreerdp developers
17:43
I.e. it sound like a problem outside the ltsp code base...
17:43
<Simon_>
but the problem doesn't show up when I do 2 sessions from ldm...
17:44
<alkisg>
Both of them are running on the server, while the other one is local
17:44
<Simon_>
I'm thinking that freerdp screen script is the source of problem
17:44
<alkisg>
Maybe xfreerdp is trying to use X shared memory for something, and fails, when between different machines
17:44
Then try from an xterm
17:44
SCREEN_08=xterm
17:44
Launch xfreerdp from there manually
17:44
Without using any scripts at all...

Before I rebooted... in screen.d/xfreerdp script I found that XINITRC_DAEMON is exported with the value of true to prevent X from restarting after logout

have an update: when I enforcely restart X it helps to fight the problem: every time a new RDP session to the same W7 (as opened in SCREEN_06 via xfreerdp) starts from ldm via Remmina, it results in restarting X on SCREEN_06 and I can work in Remmina
18:42
The only issue is that since RDP session on SCREEN_06 is logged off it keeps restarting X until I log on in SCREEN_06
18:43khildin has left IRC (khildin!~khildin@ip-83-134-135-101.dsl.scarlet.be, Ping timeout: 245 seconds)
18:44
<Simon_>
I noticed that termination of xfreerdp caused by not-logged idle session returns status code of 0, when the session gets preempted by Remmina it shows exit code of 5, when the session gets disconnected from within W7 it shows exit code of 11
18:47
Using this observation I can create a wrapper screen script to be placed in screen.d which will call xfreerdp in loop. In case when exit code is 5 or 11 a new iteration of the loop is to be started (will not result in restart of X). In case of 0 status code (login timeout) we just exit the script so X will be restarted

<kev_j>
when I use the server parameter in the lts.conf the clients have the hostname file's ip set to server... is there a way to change that, or is there something I have setup incorrectly that is causing it to do that?
22:39
<vagrantc>
kev_j: what are you actually trying to do?
22:39
kev_j: you might want LDM_SERVER or something instead.
22:39
SERVER is kind of a silly lts.conf variable, since it can't change your root server, tftp server, or numerous other servers.
22:41
in theory it should set the default value for all the various server related variables, but it's not widely tested, probably prone to errors
22:42
<kev_j>
I am trying to get ltsp working with ldap, kerberos, and auto-mounting afs without using fuse... which seems like it might work, except the client sends ldap/server instead of ldap/fqdn
22:42
I have cups_server and server, and if I remember correctly, when I took one out it screwed up both or something to that effect
22:43
<vagrantc>
SERVER will always be set, should default to your root servers (i.e. NFS or NBD server).
22:44
trying to change it may cause problems, but your ldap, kerberos, etc. settings could just use an arbitrary environment variable instead, rather than trying to repurpose the meaning of SERVER
22:45
<kev_j>
I'm not changing it to a different server, it is set to the ip of the root/nbd/ltsp server
22:46
<vagrantc>
shouldn't be necessary...
22:46
<kev_j>
but I will take it out and see if it defaults to the name of the server instead of just "server"
