<vagrantc>
syrius: i don't think so
00:09* vagrantc wonders if epoptes would be able to add commandline displays
00:10
<syrius>
vagrantc: I actually found a solution
00:10
using kind of a hack
00:10
but i can get a requests ip in flask (python) and then parse 'ps aux | grep LTSP_CLIENT=' and grab the user/ip from there
00:11
well my first statement is irrelevent to my question, but the 2nd part is how i'm doing what i was hoping
00:16
but yeah i was actually looking into epoptes but no command-line flags
00:17
<vagrantc>
might not be hard to add
00:18adrianorg has joined IRC (adrianorg!~adrianorg@187.113.246.221)
00:22
<syrius>
ah crap even this solution won't work
00:23
because the LTSP clients ip address (for browsing purposes) is the ltsp host machine
00:23
not the individual thin client IP
00:24
which makes sense... the thin client ip is strictly for the graphical portion
00:24
blah
00:33* vagrantc recommends LTSP fat clients anyways
00:33
<vagrantc>
long as the client hardware is reasonably capable ... usually results in better performance

00:37
<syrius>
hmm should consider that.. had it like this for a long time
00:37
but performance isn't the greatest
00:37
does it load the entire image from the ltsp server in memory on the client?

good afternoon,
05:58
I 've problem while installing printer in ltsp client. the problem is if I print using browser from localhost, it is running well. But when I want to print from office document, while I want to choose the printer the system only show me "Generic Printer".
05:58
Would you like to help me...?
05:58
mr alkisg : please help me,
06:04
<alkisg>
rac: sorry, I think your case needs remote support, but it takes extremely long for you to answer each time, so it's not easy for me to help you. Maybe someone else will be able to.

<rac>
yesterday i have problem in my office, so i leave my computer so long. i am very sorry for making you wait too long...
06:19
I feel confuse actually, in the previous version of ubuntu that i'm using (ver 12.10) the printer configuration is so different with this new version (ver. 16.04)
06:22
Please help me,

Nothing has changed for printer configuration between 12.04 and 16.04...
06:50
<rac>
in the previous version when I finish installing printer at the client, the printer name automatically show when I tray to print from office document, but now after installing the printer when I tray to print from office document the printer name is not there, system only show Generic Printer.
06:52
<alkisg>
Printers don't get installed at the clients in ltsp
06:53
The client publishes them to the local network with jetpipe, and then printers are installed on the server
06:54
Even if they're connected e.g. via usb to the clients
06:56
<rac>
is it possible to plug the printer on the ltsp client? because right now I can't plug it into server, the server put on the dedicated room while the printer is used by anyone in the office.
06:57
<alkisg>
Yes, that's what I said, it's possible like it was always possible with ltsp in the past
06:57
Nothing has changed

<fenix>
bennabiy, I'm currently having the same issue you had yesterday, could you please tell me more about that LVDS fix ?
09:12
<alkisg>
fenix: what's the output of this, on the client? xrandr
09:16gvy has joined IRC (gvy!~mike@altlinux/developer/mike)
09:25
<fenix>
alkisg, can't paste but it says : "DisplayPort-0 disconnected" which is true, "DVI-0 connected" which is true, showing the actual screen resolution (1280x1024) but 1024x768 is active, and "VGA-0" connected which is not, and there's an active 1024x768 display on that one. So I reckon VGA-0 has my panels? No LVDS here though
09:26
actually there's no VGA port on the thin client
09:27
<alkisg>
fenix: if you see 2 outputs with a list of modes each, and one of them doesn't exist, try: xrandr --output VGA --off
09:27
(where VGA is the output that doesn't exist)
09:27
See if that solves the issue
09:28
<fenix>
I already tried to deactivate the unknown VGA-0 display from mate-control-center and it shuts down my screen but I'm givin xrandr a try
09:29
<alkisg>
fenix: you can try this instead:
09:29
<fenix>
same thing with xrandr
09:29
<alkisg>
OK, then try disabling the DVI output
09:29
Pastebin would help... you can join irc from the thin client
09:30
ltsp.org/irc or something
09:31
You can also try with: xrandr --output DVI-0 --off; sleep 10; xrandr --output DVI-0 --auto
09:31
...so that you don't have to reboot
09:31
And of course you can also do those via epoptes, if you have it installed
09:35gbaman has joined IRC (gbaman!~gbaman@host81-142-46-233.in-addr.btopenworld.com)
09:40
<fenix>
deactivating DVI-0 kind of works, panels are back as expected but screen resolution isn't properly detected (stuck at 1024x768 where it should be 1280x1024). I'm using a generic DVI>VGA adapter there, may it interfere ?
09:40
<alkisg>
Yup, it might
09:40
Now you're supposed to put that in lts.conf, via XRANDR_COMMAND_0="xrandr --output DVI-0 --off"
09:41gbaman has left IRC (gbaman!~gbaman@host81-142-46-233.in-addr.btopenworld.com, Ping timeout: 250 seconds)
09:41
<alkisg>
The alternative way is to do it via the kernel cmdline, video:DVI-0:d or something, but it requires a separate pxelinux.cfg file, so it's not worth it

09:44
<fenix>
yeah I'll stick to the lts.conf way, I got 4 or 5 different types of thin clients and various screen models too
09:44
<alkisg>
It's also possible to add new modes even if it doesn't detect them
09:44
cvt 1280 1024
09:45
xrandr --newmode bla bla
09:45
And then put all those to lts.conf too

<BuddyButterfly>
alkisg: high. how do I increase resolution of client (ltsp-pnp)?
15:16
in xenserver the client is always locked down to 1024x768.
15:16
already tried XRANDR_MODE_0=1650x1080 but did not workd.
15:17
<alkisg>
BuddyButterfly: what's the output of: sudo ltsp-info
15:17
and of: xrandr
15:17
<BuddyButterfly>
alkisg: on client?
15:18
xrandr goes up to 1920x1200 (executed on ltsp server).
15:19
alkisg: interestingly, if I execute a kvm client on another linux machine, I am able to increase resolution.
15:20
<alkisg>
BuddyButterfly: on client
15:20

15:20

<alkisg>
OK, and (2) is the client a virtual client? and (3) the output of xrandr on the client
15:23
<BuddyButterfly>
yes, client is a virtual client (VM on xenserver).
15:25
<alkisg>
And the output of xrandr there?
15:25
If the VM VGA driver doesn't support many resolutions, you should be asking there, not in ltsp
15:26
<BuddyButterfly>
alkisg: http://pastebin.com/BZj4grn7
15:27
alkisg: I was thinging about this but I already set the resolutions higher in xenserver.
15:27
should I try vesa?
15:27
<alkisg>
I don't know about xenserver, but it's best to ask them about higher resolutions than doing ltsp-specific stuff
15:27
E.g. in kvm I can do -vga vmware, and I get different resolutions
15:28
Or in vbox I can add custom resolutions with vboxmanage
15:28
I've never tried xen, can't help there
15:28
<BuddyButterfly>
alkisg: yes, right. I already did this in xen. and it works, when connecting to other VM via vnc.
15:31
alkisg: yep, you are right. seems to be a problem with xen.
15:32
alkisg: howto start services on clients? is there a wrapper for them?
15:33
<alkisg>
BuddyButterfly: I don't understand. How do you start services in Linux in general?
15:33
<BuddyButterfly>
depends on distri ;-)
15:33
<alkisg>
On the distro you use
15:33
<BuddyButterfly>
systemd in the newer ones, sysv in the older ones.
15:34
in the distro I have, init.d works....
15:34
<alkisg>
And in ltsp it doesn't?
15:34
<BuddyButterfly>
alkisg: it does but di they have to be started manually?
15:34
<alkisg>
Do they have to be started manually in the distro you use?
15:35
I think you should ask this more specifically
15:35
<BuddyButterfly>
lets do it vice versa. not all services automatically running in ltsp server are running in the clients.
15:35
<alkisg>
E.g. "i'm trying to do xxx and it doesn't work because I get the message yyy"
15:35
!lts.conf
15:35
<ltsp`>
lts.conf: (#1) http://manpages.ubuntu.com/lts.conf, or (#2) lts.conf manpage is available in the ltsp-docs package
15:36
<alkisg>
There's RM_SYSTEM_SERVICES etc that disable some services by default
15:36
<BuddyButterfly>
We could not find that page
15:36
<alkisg>
You can override it by KEEP_SYSTEM_SERVICES, or add more
