Good day all. I am having no luck with tftp between my thin client and the server, i have spent the last 2 days trying to get the thin client to transfer the image, but alas.
16:24
ive followed this article, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/Troubleshooting/TFTP and it passes every step. im at loss on what to do next
16:24
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/Troubleshooting/TFTP
16:25
The error is PXE-E32 connection time out. The thin client can get the pxelinux.0 file but from there im not sure what the error could be
16:26
anyone have any ideas?

I have a server runnin with 16gb of ram. Do I need to install the 64 bit verision of ubuntu on it to use all of the ram for my ltsp clients. the reason I ask is the diskless workstations I have are all i386 but my fat clients are all 64bit.
18:40
<kb8wmc>
I have small number of thin clients and want to make my virtualbox application available to the clients, how do I do this?

19:31
<vagrantc>
dkauf: you can run i386 with a PAE kenel (i think the default in ubuntu for some time now)
19:32
dkauf: you can run your server on amd64, and all your clients on i386 (even the ones that could do amd64) ... or you can set up separate LTSP environments for i386 and amd64
19:33
dkauf: if you're using the ltsp-pnp method, you'll want to run your server and all the clients on i386.
19:33
!ltsp-pnp | echo dkauf
19:33
<ltsp>
dkauf ltsp-pnp: ltsp-pnp is an alternative (upstream) method to maintain LTSP installations for thin and fat clients that doesn't involve chroots: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/ltsp-pnp
19:34
<vagrantc>
dkauf: with a PAE kernel, you'll get access to all your RAM.

<highvoltage>
vagrantc!
19:41
I've been missing you on IRC for the last week :)
19:42
vagrantc: nice LDM theme, I think it's better than all the previous ones in every way
19:47
<vagrantc>
highvoltage: i accidentally uploaded with a white 1x1 pixel logo instead of a transparent one :(
19:48* vagrantc just asked the release team to re-upload
19:49
<vagrantc>
highvoltage: but yeah, i really like the artwork for Debian Jessie overall, and it was actually good to work through the artwork tools (inkscape/gimp/rsvg-convert) myself a bit... clumsy as they may have felt
19:49
<highvoltage>
ah I thought that was on purpose
19:49
oh I see
19:50
<vagrantc>
the other obvious thing to do would have been get something that's approximately the right color for the logo.png, but i think transparent would be better.
19:50
highvoltage: you like the white pixel?
19:51
admittedly, it does feel a bit empty with everything above the username box
19:51
http://cascadia.debian.net/~vagrant/LDM-lines-theme.png
19:52
<highvoltage>
vagrantc: nah it's getting late here and I initially misread white pixel as transparent pixel somehow
19:52
<vagrantc>
i think at some resolutions it doesn't show as much
19:52
but i noticed it on the screenshot i took
19:53
as usual, it doesn't look as good at 16-bit color
19:53
which is still the default for thin clients
19:53
but still useable overall
19:57
are font sizes determined in the gtkrc?
19:59
<dkauf>
thanks vagrantc That is what I am using so that works perfect. I just wanted to make sure
19:59
<Um3>
hi guys,
19:59
i'm trying to make an ltsp environment using lightdm instead ldm on thin clients.
19:59
Following this wiki http://wiki.ltsp.org/wiki/Dev:LTSPPamNotes and a little bit of https://github.com/opinsys/ltsp-lightdm, i wrote these 2 files: /etc/pam.d/lightdm file (http://nopaste.info/9f9b7e2d77.html) and /usr/share/ltsp-pam/ltsp-session file (http://nopaste.info/e96ab0c090.html) and setted up the /etc/nsswitch.conf to use libnss-extrausers.
19:59
Trying to authenticate from lightdm (on the thinclient) i can see the connection to the server, in fact these lines show up on the ltsp server auth.log (http://nopaste.info/4f10ce9e47.html). But lightdm return me an authentication error (Password mismatch) and the ltsp-session file produces these lines on the log file http://nopaste.info/1703ae2eef.html
19:59
I think that something goes wrong on reusing authentication data after first connection. Can anyone help me on that?
20:00
<vagrantc>
Um3: why not just use the ltsp-pam packages?
20:01
Um3: it seems like you're manually reinventing what they do...
20:05
<Um3>
vagrantc, where i can found the ltsp-pam package? I can't see it on *ubuntu repository
20:06
<vagrantc>
Um3: http://wiki.ltsp.org/wiki/Dev:LTSPPamNotes#Current_Progress
20:06
<Um3>
oh, i'm blind xD
20:07
<vagrantc>
it's a bunch of hacks, so it's not really appropriate to upload to the distros yet
20:07
<Um3>
I try and let you know how did it go ;)
20:07
<vagrantc>
it's also just a proof of concept at this point ... any help getting it moving beyond that would be great

<championofcyrodi>
gorillapower: a timeout usually means there was no response (firewall???), rather than the general 'file not found'. this is concerning because you said it was about to get pxelinux.0, but not the initrd. check the /var/lib/tftpboot/ path and ensure the file specified in your pxelinux configuration for initrd actually exists. if not you will need to have the initrd created.
