anyone here for k12linux meeting?
ok... if nobody else shows up then I'm going back to sleep.
it U and me :-)
do you have any questions?
i have several servers with k12ltsp 4.2 on fc6 that i would like to upgrade this summer
what language do you use?
i have upgraded our development server to fc8
(and keyboard layout)?
ok, I think the main thing I have to fix for you is the keyboard layout bug
it more then that...
it's KDE 4
it does not have kiosk tool
we lockdown the desktop for the users
OK, you might not be able to use it for now then.
I can't do anything about KDE personally.
i know :-)
Have you talked with Fedora's KDE team?
so i consider keeping the fc8 for now
it works great
directly with upstream
it appears i am amongst the few that uses kiosktool
and the framework under it
the framework is not production ready (i do not need the gui - kiosktool although it would be nice :-)
other then that the kde4 does not seem to be ready
how come their is no kde3 ? (never mined)
I'm not in the KDE team, you would have to ask them.
do you use gnome ?
GNOME does have lockdown capabilities but it is poorly documented.
and... is it possible to lock down the UI ?
the last time I did it personally was with Fedora 1
I hate gconf
I actually hate GNOME
and I hate computers...
i see we share common grounds ;-)
nadavkav: ltsp on Fedora 8 is unofficial but it should work roughly equivalent to Fedora 9.
other then they hebrew keyboard layous (that i installed on my own)
nadavkav: what did you do to set the keyboard layout?
is their any thing else i should be aware of ?
nadavkav: btw, does the ldm login screen do right to left text?
it was missing/missmatched so i got a correct one from debian
(I don't think we ever tested right to left in ldm.)
but on fc9 and 8 it is ok
we use kdm
it's great !!!
oh, the keyboard layout problem might be only ldm...
i disabled all the other ldms and "choose session"
I don't use a non-US layout so I really don't know how that part works. I need to research it.
i use PulseAudio client plugin for alsa to connect to Esd on the terminals
i try to send this post to the k12osn list but i was rejected (for some unknown reason)
we don't even ship esd anymore
I don't control k12osn
i thought u did , sorry
K12Linux uses pulseaudio on both the client and server
i use old fc6 + esd on the terminals
pulseaudio sound works automatically for me
doesn't work for you?
ltsp 4 does not have PA server on the terminals (as far as i can see)
nadavkav: I haven't used LTSP 4 for years
nadavkav: maybe 4 or 5 years.
can i use a new terminal's envirument from ltsp5 or debian iamges ? with ltsp 4 ?
you mean the /opt/ltsp/i386 chroot?
I have no idea.
forgot the name for it
perhaps you should actually try it before asking questions?
can i use ltsp5 without the security checks (SSL)
|10:00||* warren finds the option...|
i will (next week)
thank you for you time :-)
in lts.conf you need LDM_DIRECTX=yes
login and password is still encrypted by ssh
but X isn't encrypted
double thanks !
|10:01||DonSilver has quit IRC|
after i install your latest ltsp5 this week... i will report to you :-)
especially on the hebrew layouts and rtl in general

I'm looking for some guidance - on whether I actually need kiwi-ltsp or not.
my goal is to pxe boot a client into a ram-only filesystem, and then run only rdesktop.
Should I be looking to use kiwi-ltsp, or just pxe boot a live cd image.

juanpaul, is it in your /etc/xinetd.d ?
and set to be allowed?
johnny, yes, disabled = no
and you restarted xinetd after that (i'm not truly sure if necessary.. but)
i hope you realize you are truly a beta tester in this regard.. you're the first person who isn't me to use it :)
really.. alpha tester..
johnny, yes, it necessary reboot xinetd
johnny, i'm geting this from telnet to 9571: Connected to server.
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host.
|21:42||* johnny tries to remember the command|
|21:43||vagrantc has joined #ltsp|
i think that is normal
you probably have to send it a command right away on initialization
ldm does it via netcat
if i run ldminfod manually, all the correct info is returned
johnny, locally i can connect via loopback interface but not with ethernet interface IP
i get that message via loopback atm..
ogra: you about?
#ldminfod returns ok
#telnet 127.0.0.1 9571 returns ok
got anything in /etc/xinetd.conf
#telnet 192.168.0.253 9571 open and close connection
yep.. that is prolly it
mine was default to my local network that i'm not even now..
that's not something we can do anything about.. needs to go in the docs .. when i get around to writing them
going to do a from scratch install again, and document the issues and put it in guidexml format , like all gentoo docs
juanpaul, ? does that do it for ya?
johnny, here's the error: only_from = localhost
that's the default config
and we cannot modify it from ltsp-server scripts
so, change that to whatever you like.. either your network.. or just comment it out
up to you
i'll try to write some docs this week.. but if nothing else, i'll have some worthy docs by the 30th of next month :)
when i meet the other gentoo developer in person
vagrantc, you here?
my ubuntuish thin clients are multiplying visible floppy drives.. what can i do?
i tried deleting the stuff from /tmp.. but that won't let me, even as root
i see a bunch of question marks
you ever seen that on debian?
johnny, i know that can't change system-wide configs
its mine lack of attention
i gotta go for a bit
iif not, come back tomorrow
