can the "username" and "password" fields in the ldm greeter be customized?
what do you mean by "customized"?
change the content, to another language
you mean like the word username?
change to "gebruikersnaam" (dutch)
I think that if you just set up locales in your chroot as normal it will work fine.

did you copy the servers sshkeys to the chroot?
is Xforwarding on for the sshd server?
can you please tell me how to check this?
nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config on the server
yes, it has "X11Forwarding yes" line
hmm, i don't know then
ok, no prob., thanks anyway

and it worked for "preferences"

but not for "username" and "password"

maybe that part isn't translated? lemme look.
I see the problem.
there is no dutch translation.
where are the translations located?
do you know how translations work?
somewhere in /usr/share/locale
tho that's in binary form.
you gotta build from source.
knipwim: I'm sure that we would be happy to have dutch translations if you'd be willing to translate for us :)
but i'm quite clueless, do i need to make an ldm.mo file in /usr/share/locale/nl/LC_MESSAGES/ ?
or is there a ltsp translation howto or something?
no, but if you give me a few minutes I'll figure out how to and try to teach you :)
|07:13||makghosh_ has quit IRC|
quick shower, brb
knipwim: what os and version are you using?
okay, so basically how this works is that you are gonna install poedit and download http://ryan52.info/~ryan52/ldm.pot
|07:26||alkisg has joined #ltsp|
knipwim: oh, wait, alkisg can explain it waaaaaay better I'll bet. :)
alkisg: you busy? :)
|07:27||* alkisg looks at the logs...|
Ryan52: no really, just eating a snack.. let me see
alkisg: knipwim is wanting a Dutch translation for ldm.
Ah, ok. Yeah, either poedit, kbabel, gtranslator, whatever, open the .po file and translate! :)
knipwim: "do i need to make an ldm.mo file in /usr/share/locale/nl/LC_MESSAGES/" > yes, but in the chroot, not on the server
after translation, i need to compile to po file to an mo file
knipwim: when you've finished, send ldm.po in the ltsp-developer list to be included upstream.
Yes, that's a single line, let me look...
btw, what distro/version? E.g. Ubuntu had some problems with the initscripts and translations didn't work in 8.04, they did work in 8.10, and now they have problems again in 9.04... :(
knipwim: msgfmt nl.po
okay, imma just shut up and let alkisg handle it, since alkisg has actually translated stuff :)
"msgfmt -o nl.mo nl.po", maybe.
Ryan52: well, I've just install jaunty, so I'm not really organized now to find the command line, feel free to help whenever you can! From what I see in google (and if I remember correctly), something like `msgfmt -cv -o ldm.mo nl.po` should do it.
there we go. :)
knipwim: you'll also need gnome-language-pack-nl to translate the "Preferences" button
I mean, you'll need to install it in the chroot
that's the weird thing, it is already translated by the LANG=nl_nl.utf8" env variable
knipwim: that's because the Preferences button comes from gtk, wheras the username thing is our own.
knipwim: ah, it looks like gentoo already took care of this for you. :)
yep, i see the gtk20.mo and gtk20-properties.mo files

ltsp-developer... or ltsp-discuss, I guess that'll do too...
ok, just translated the username and password fields to test
i'll mail it when i've translated all messages
alkisg: why not ltsp-developer?

vagrantc: "question" is if you have a question about ltsp, please go ahead and ask it, and people will respond if they can. please also mention the linux distro and release you're using. :)
This is a fresh install of fc10 following the instructions for k12linux
The error is that a user can't be authenticated
dahopkins: the use can login localy ?
dahopkins: mm may be u need to ltsp-update-sshkey ?
ur using image right ? nbd ?
thin client boots, using nbd (if that is the default)
Haven't done anything with ltsp-update-sshkey
ok try it
and then ltsp-update-image
restart xinent or nbd service and reboot the thinclient and check
so ... where is ltsp-update-sshkey?
dahopkins: on the LTSP server
be back in few
running ltsp-update-sshkeys and then restarting xinetd fixed it! Thanks! .. but ltsp-update-image failed .. must not have ran it correctly

dahopkins: but now everything wroks?
still testing .. I need to install flash and really need to get firefox running as a local app
dahopkins: i have a very powerfull clinets in the lab so i had to go with fatclient plugin :) works like charm for me and then i moved from nbd to nfs so i can just chroot inside the the client image install any app. adding any user and it is done without any reboot
fat clients are also on the agenda as is moving to nfs. but I use ldap with 1300+ accounts so not sure about the adding users part

I use the setup by David Trask and Matt Olmquist (sp) using openldap. I use their scripts for initial entry. I have webmin and phpldapadmin for fixes after creation
dahopkins: a linke to that setup please ?
