<astroboy>
vagrantc: I've had the same error msg from two different local mirrors : " Couldn't find these debs: locales
00:08
"
00:10
<vagrantc>
do you have the "locales" packages in your mirrors?
00:10
<astroboy>
.. with other msgs saying 'Packages.gz was corrupt' and " LTSP client installation ended abnormally"
00:10
<vagrantc>
astroboy: you might need to rm -rf /opt/ltsp/* and start over ...
00:10
<astroboy>
As far as I am aware .. yes .. but I don't know what is in them.
00:11
Ugh .. yes.
00:11
<vagrantc>
apt-cache policy locales
00:11
will tell you which mirrors have the locales package, presuming you've got your local mirrors in your sources.list and such
00:11
<astroboy>
yep
00:13
Ah, I didn't have 'etch' in them, I took them from /etc/apt/sources.list ..
00:13
So a different version from the same mirror should be OK
00:14
No, sorry, same problem.
00:15
<vagrantc>
any proxy settings that might be interfering?
00:16
<astroboy>
.. whether I use 'ftp://ftp.nz.debian.org etch/main Packages
00:16
' or ' ftp://ftp.nz.debian.org/debian
00:16
' or 'http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/'
00:16
No proxies.
00:16
<vagrantc>
hrm.
00:16
i've never really had a problem with that ....
00:17
<astroboy>
I'm loath to start over having got ltspcfg in order .. just the small matter *I think* of not including the kernel ..
00:17
I think I have to sleep on it ..
00:18
Erm .. are Cascadians from Washington state or Quebec ?
00:18
<vagrantc>
don't use ltspcfg with ltsp5
00:18
<astroboy>
Oh ..
00:18
<vagrantc>
it will break things.
00:19
at least, i think it will...
00:19
<astroboy>
How to config, then ?
00:19
<vagrantc>
well, at the moment, by hand.
00:20
<astroboy>
I'm getting there, methinks
00:23
<vagrantc>
astroboy: there's a little documentation in /usr/share/doc/ltsp-server/ that might be helpful ...
00:30
<astroboy>
I hear that Cascadia is a lot like NZ ..
00:31
found it, thanks
00:32
<vagrantc>
yeah, i hear cascadia is a fair amount like NZ ...
00:32
though there's also the dry side of cascadia
00:35
<astroboy>
Ah, I found you signature .. 'dry' as in wit ?
00:36
<vagrantc>
no, dry as in very little annual rainfall
00:36
<mistik1>
vagrantc: sup buddy
00:36
<vagrantc>
the east side of the cascades is sort of high desert
00:36
mistik1: evenin
00:37
mistik1: struggling to keep up with my free software projects while spending most of my day commuting to/from work, and then all the time in between the commuting working :)
00:39
<chupacabra>
just finished babel. hmmm
00:42kaos01 has quit IRC
00:43
<astroboy>
vagrantc: sounds familiar. I'm going to have to get up tomorrow and survey the damage .. :-)
00:48
vagrantc: How would you modify the dhcpd.conf example for etherboot ?
00:49
.. comment out the pxe* lines ?
00:49
<vagrantc>
astroboy: the example dhcpd.conf in the doc directory should handle both pxe and etherboot
00:52
<astroboy>
Good. I think it should solve my root, or kernel, problem.
00:59
Cheers ..

hi
05:12
I have a query regarding a problem that I am facing in running a GTK based desktop application on thin client under LTSP.
05:12
Actually this application needs to access one of the USB ports of the thin client, but /proc/bus/usb (which resides on server) is invisible to it.
05:13
Is it possible to run this application locally so that it could access the
05:13
usb port of the local machine. I am using libusb to communicate with the usb port.

14:52
is "Kgolf"

only kgolf
14:52
<mistik1>
msaul: try to make a sentence ok

oh, ur running kde?

<msaul>
yes
14:53
<Gadi>
are you using esd?
14:53
<msaul>
arts daemon is running
14:53
yes set to esd network
14:53
<Gadi>
hmm... well, if the games bypass arts (which is using esd) then that sux
14:54
you can try launching them with either "esddsp" or "artsdsp"
14:54
but, silly that they should bypass arts if they are kde apps
14:54
<msaul>
is that an option for the command?
14:54
ie. -- esddsp ?
14:54
<Gadi>
if they are not kde apps, you may need to set up gstreamer as well
14:55
(to use esddsp, open terminal window and type: esddsp <command>)
14:55
<msaul>
Let me try that now
14:55
<Gadi>
to configure gstreamer, try running "gstreamer-porperties"
14:55
er, gstreamer-properties
14:56
<astroboy>
jammcq: .. so the fixed address for WS01 should be 192.168.0.2 .. ?
14:57
<msaul>
esddsp before command didn't work - trying gstreamer
14:57
<Gadi>
bbiab
14:57
<jammcq>
that's a reasonable address for a workstation, assuming nothing else on the network already has that address
14:58

a5benwillis: good luck with that
19:50
the openssh guys are pretty tough about accepting anything new
19:50
<Gadi>
specially when it sidesteps their own code ;)
19:51
<mistik1>
that's for sure
19:53
<a5benwillis>
the patch is their own code.
19:53
Its from them, just not included in the current release nor really tested until now.
