04:19
<Nielsen|Work>
the ltsp client and server are both running ubuntu 6.10
04:19
how can i tell which ltsp version is installed?
04:19

<Nielsen|Work>
still no /tmp/.ltspfs-socket
04:33
what program is supposed to create it?
04:41
<sbalneav>
Nielsen|Work: Are you using LDM or XDMCP for communicating to the server?
04:44
<Nielsen|Work>
ldm
04:45
find /opt/ltsp/i386 | grep -i XDMCP returns only some so's
04:45
<sbalneav>
Well, LDM should be creating the socket
04:45
<Nielsen|Work>
could it be my boss compiled it wrong?
04:46
<sbalneav>
Compiled?
04:46
Should have just installed it with apt-get install ltsp-server-standalone,

<Nielsen|Work>
yeh, true...
04:47
i hate getting handed projects like this

then created the chroot with ltsp-build-client
04:47
<Nielsen|Work>
boss: "i cant get it working, you fix it"
04:48
<sbalneav>
LTSP under Ubuntu's pretty autoconfigureing, why not try "mv lts.conf lts.conf.old", and see if it boots just using the defaults?
04:49
<Nielsen|Work>
you mean /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf ?
04:52
<sbalneav>
Yep
04:53
<Nielsen|Work>
no luck... still no file in /tmp
04:54

<anarkae>
Hello. I bought two LTSP Term 1220 PXE Thin Client. My server is a
08:22
Debian Lenny with ltsp5 (chroot in etch).
08:22
I try to make function the graphics board of the thin client in "via" CN700 ,
08:22
but I do not arrive there. For the moment the thin client functions in vesa. Diskless.com indicate a modus operandi for ltsp4.2 but
08:22
not for ltsp5. http://www.disklessworkstations.com/web/documentation/LTSP_T-1220.pdf
08:23
<vagrantc>
fxrsliberty: inclusion list?
08:23
<anarkae>
08:23
I do not know how to make
08:23
<fxrsliberty>
hardware to be supported by the initramfs
08:23
my ltsp150'
08:24
s won't connect while other things do
08:24
or our udev is having issues
08:24
<vagrantc>
fxrsliberty: does it produce any error messages?
08:25
<fxrsliberty>
not that i can tell it just stalls after time: tsc clocksource has been installed
08:25
<vagrantc>
fxrsliberty: so, what distro, what version of ltsp, etc.
08:25
?
08:25
<fxrsliberty>
p.s. love the LTSP line of hardware
08:26
opensuse 10.2 with ltsp 5 pre alpa integration
08:26
<vagrantc>
ah
08:27
fxrsliberty: so, just to clarify ... you can boot some machines but not this particular machine?
08:28
<fxrsliberty>
correct, my IBM r51 laptop is on , also an IBM 2292-22u netvista
08:29
<vagrantc>
fxrsliberty: so ... how far does it get?
08:29
i.e. does the initramfs mount the NFS filesystem?
08:29
<fxrsliberty>
i am repurposing some IBM 6649-nau netvista's that fail as well with trouble configuring the intel 815e graphics
08:29
yes nfs mounted
08:29skipper has quit IRC
08:29
<fxrsliberty>
on the netvista not the ltsp150
08:30
<vagrantc>
so the netvistas are working fine. ok. what about the ltsp150 that isn't? where does it get?
08:31
<fxrsliberty>
it just stalls after time: tsc clocksource has been installed
08:31Q-FUNK has quit IRC
08:31
<vagrantc>
fxrsliberty: do you see anything before that? or the second you turn it on?
08:32
<fxrsliberty>
yes all kinds of stuff.. it downloads the kernel and begins the init process
08:34
<vagrantc>
fxrsliberty: init from initramfs, or from NFS ?
08:34
<fxrsliberty>
it checks the initrd for initramfs compatibilty
08:34
<anarkae>
08:34
nobody knows how to activate “via” with the LTSP Term 1220 in ltsp 5 on debian ?
08:35
<fxrsliberty>
before it even thinks about nfs
08:36
<vagrantc>
anarkae: set XSERVER=via in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf
08:36
<ogra>
that wont work
08:36
<vagrantc>
fxrsliberty: so ... does the initramfs work, or not?
08:37
<anarkae>
08:37
Ca does not go, it charges all the same vesa in the place of via
08:37
<ogra>
it needs the openchrome driver fro which no debian package exists
08:37
*for
08:37
<vagrantc>
anarkae: ah well. you're stuck with vesa.
08:37
<fxrsliberty>
in the middle of loading hardware the initramfs stalls after it says "time:tsc clocksource has been installed
08:38
<anarkae>
ogra : I have a solution?
08:38
Diskless.com indicate a modus operandi for ltsp4.2 but
08:38

08:39

fxrsliberty: no idea.

<anarkae>
http://www.disklessworkstations.com/cgi-bin/web/downloads/downloads.html
08:40
<fxrsliberty>
what rw resources need to be available to the initramfs or the udev process?
08:40
<vagrantc>
fxrsliberty: i'd try to increate the verbosity of your initramfs so you know exacly where it breaks

everyone who run this ltsp have to have devfs running?
14:18
it seems that the newer kernels don't have devfs anymore....

The computer I am using as a server is just too small. It has a 1.2 GHz Pentium IV and 2 GB ram

it's the slowest computer to ever had 2gb o' ram...

It runs but then Thin Client Manager hangs up after I connect 12 terminal clients

I tested it today and as I added more clients the TSM ran slower and slower
14:21
<Linf>
yeah, it definitly looks like you need more processing power
14:21

oops I meant the TCM
14:21

you can surely buy a pentium iv on ebay which would ran somewhat faster

I think I proves that 7.04 edubuntu is the way to go to get away from my old Windows ME

yeah, but you can't expect a p4 to run more then 10 stations... perhaps if you use windowmaker or some lighter window manager then it'll do

Hi there folks. first-time irc'er here. also a first-time ltsp'er.
17:11
i have kubuntu 7.04 and ltsp 5.0 (muekow) and it all seems to work OK except for one little thing -
17:12
I have KDE set up to auto-login a user (ltspguest) after 5 seconds. It works on the console just fine, but when a thin client boots they get the yellow Ubuntu login page instead of the KDE one and they have to enter a password.
17:13
once they enter a password everything's ok... the kiosk admin profiles work beautifully and everything.
17:14
At one point I did a sudo chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 aptitude install kdm but that seemed kinda ugly, and in my Google travels someone said not to do it that way.
17:17
Is there a really good tutorial on setting up MueKow with KDE? Or maybe I'll write one if I ever figure it out. ;)
