<Vlad__>
hello, i have a problem with OCS Inventory Agent on LTSP-clients
07:36
we have 2 types of clients:
07:36
1) with desktop environment (XFCE-clients)
07:36forum has left IRC (forum!~Icedove@194-118-45-234.adsl.highway.telekom.at, Quit: forum)
07:36
<Vlad__>
2) without desktop (and without user profile) that boot directly into xfreerdp (xfreerdp-clients)
07:36
both run Debian 8 and have OCS Inventory Agent installed
07:36
XFCE-clients report to OCS-server each day without issues
07:37
but xfreerdp-clients report until they are shut down only
07:37
i.e. if a user powers off his PC at the end of the working day and the next morning he starts it
07:37
"/etc/cron.daily/ocsinventory-agent" script won't be triggered

<alkisg>
Vlad__: wouldn't that be an OCS issue, to ask in their channel etc? Do you think it's related to LTSP?
08:50
<Vlad__>
i don't know, as i've said OCS on desktop clients work well so i thought the problem has something to do with LTSP running without desktop environment
08:51forum has joined IRC (forum!~Icedove@62-47-176-103.adsl.highway.telekom.at)
08:51
<alkisg>
Vlad__: cron daily jobs run without any relation to the desktop environment (and to ltsp)
08:51
Are you using the same chroot for both tasks?
08:53
<Vlad__>
no, there're different chroots for each client type
08:54
<alkisg>
You don't really need different chroots there, but ok
08:54
Are you using some RM_SYSTEM_SERVICES directive in lts.conf?
08:54
That would delete cron jobs?
08:55
<Vlad__>
nope
08:55
<alkisg>
There is one case where ltsp clients don't run cron jobs, when the RAM is extremely low, I think <= 128 MB. Your clients don't have that low ram, do they?
08:55
<Vlad__>
at least 512 MB
08:56
<alkisg>
OK. Well, the next things I would do would be: (1) check the client syslog to see if cron jobs are ran or not, and (2) try to run "/etc/cron.daily/ocsinventory-agent" manually to see if it produces any errors
09:01
<Vlad__>
i've checked logs and daily jobs indeed didn't start on freerdp-clients
09:01
but on xfce-clients they did start
09:02
<alkisg>
Put the output of `getltscfg -a` to pastebin for both types
09:02
Btw, are XFCE clients thin or fat?
09:02
<Vlad__>
fat
09:03
<alkisg>
OK
09:03
You could also check the output of `getltscfg -a | grep cron`
09:03
But pasting the whole `getltscfg -a` will allow us to see more
09:04
(of course, put ** in case of any passwords you might have there)
09:10
<Vlad__>
desktop client : http://pastebin.com/kBAK8AzX
09:10
without desktop: http://pastebin.com/UzTcMtBu
09:12
<alkisg>
Eeeh you run xfreerdp while setting fat client (which isn't appropriate), and setting SOUND=true without having a thin client... a bit of a mess there
09:12
But anyway, those shouldn't matter about cron jobs
09:13
Does `service cron status` mention that cron is running?
09:14
<Vlad__>
yep, it's running
09:16
<alkisg>
If cron is running but it doesn't execute the daily jobs, it sounds like a cron misconfiguration
09:17
LTSP shouldn't be related to that issue
09:19
<vlt>
Hello. I use SCREEN_XX in lts.conf for "ldm" or "rdesktop ..." logins. Now I tried another command that works perfectly in a local xterm shell but gives me "Script 'x2x' for SCREEN_07 was not found". I’m doing it wrong obviously.
09:19
What do I have to put as a command there to run an X server with the x2x command on SCREEN_07?
09:20
<alkisg>
vlt, you would need to create your own screen script
09:20
Check /usr/share/ltsp/screen.d/
09:20
You would need to add one script there
09:22
<vlt>
alkisg: Ah, ok. So "rdesktop" are "xfreerdp" not simply run as a command. These are scripts. Thanks!
09:22
<alkisg>
Yup

09:40
<vlt>
Great!
09:41
I took the xterm script as a template, replaced "xterm" with my "x2x" command. Works!
09:41
alkisg: Thanks!
09:41
<alkisg>
:)
09:42
<vlt>
Any idea if it’s possible to force a ridiculously narrow X screen size like 8 px?
09:42
<alkisg>
Do you mean screen resolution?
09:42
<vlt>
alkisg: Yes.
09:42
<alkisg>
Like, instead of 1024x768, to have 8x8?
09:43
<vlt>
Yes, or 8x768
09:43
The client I’m running x2x on has no own screen.
09:43
It just controls another one via x2x.
09:44
So it would be very convenient if the space of the mouse cursor "missing" on the "wrong" screen would be minimal.
09:45* vlt asks in #xorg
09:47
<alkisg>
I didn't understand the setup...
09:50
<vlt>
alkisg: I have one headless client. On that I run "x2x -to another_client:7.0 ..."
09:50
The other client has no keyboard or mouse and is controlled by the headless one.
09:50
<alkisg>
If it's headless, then xorg isn't running directly there
09:50
There's no concept of screen resolution there
09:51
<vlt>
Sorry, "headless" meant "no connected screen".
09:51
<alkisg>
Ah
09:51
So if you actually connect a screen there, you'll see the 8x768 resolution
09:51
<vlt>
So, X starts just fine.
09:52
Then I would see the 8 px wide X screen, yes.
09:52
x2x is configured to have the "remote" X to the right/east of the own screen.
09:52forum has joined IRC (forum!~Icedove@62-47-176-103.adsl.highway.telekom.at)
09:53
<vlt>
That means that I can move the mouse far to the right and control the other (= visible) X screen.
09:54
The smaller I can force the "local" (no monitor connected) X screen, the less annoying situations of "my mouse is missing" do I get.
09:54
The mouse is "missing" when the user moved it to the left onto the invisible X screen.
09:54
alkisg: I hope I could clear that up a little ;)
09:57
<alkisg>
Moment, school needs support..

Wait ... I just read x2x's man page again. Seems the "-east" option is optional and I should get exactly what I need by removing that.
