<Hooh9>
how to pass the tftp parameters to the kernel?
08:47
in /opt/ltsp/amd64/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/ltsp_nbd the path is somehow fixed
08:47
echo "get ${tftppath:-/ltsp/i386}/lts.conf" | /bin/tftp ${NBD_ROOT_SERVER} >/dev/null 2>&1
08:48
<alkisg>
Hooh9: the path is sent by your dhcp server, it's produced by the boot filename
08:48ogra_ has joined IRC (ogra_!~ogra@p5098ed03.dip0.t-ipconnect.de)
08:48
<alkisg>
So your lts.conf needs to be in the same dir as vmlinuz
08:49
*as pxelinux.0
08:49
<Hooh9>
it is there, but never gets called
08:50
<alkisg>
Put your dhcpd.conf to pastebin
08:50
And your lts.conf
08:51
<Hooh9>
dhcp is done from windows
08:53
<alkisg>
OK, describe it then, what the windows dhcp server sends an on which cases
08:53
And paste your lts.conf
08:55
<Hooh9>

XKBLAYOUT=de,us,it

<alkisg>
Hooh9: your lts.conf seems ok, but you didn't describe your windows dhcp server
09:32
The problem probably lies there. If you want, you can tell tftpd-hpa to be more verbose, so that you can see in the logs where it's trying to search for lts.conf
09:32
Probably you configured your dhcp server to only send a boot filename to pxeclients, and so it doesn't send it on the second udhcpc dhcp request, and finally the client searches for lts.conf in ltsp/i386/lts.conf
09:41
<muppis>
Is it possible install ltsp without GUI?
09:42
<alkisg>
I don't think there's a gui way to install ltsp
09:42
So yeah :)
09:42
<muppis>
:P
09:42
I meant, if I install ltsp-server, it installs ldm and so. I don't need them so I don't want them.
09:43
<alkisg>
ltsp-server doesn't install ldm
09:45
<muppis>
How about ldm server?
09:46
<alkisg>
ldm-server is not a GUI app, it runs from openbsd-inetd and reports the available sessions to clients

@alkisg: PC boots via network using broadcast address, Win DHCP
10:06
provides IP and PXE server additional boot parameters
10:06
pxe-service=tag:ltsp,x86PC,"Linux",ltsp/amd64/pxelinux,10.7.20.21
10:07
/etc/dnsmasq.d/netboot.conf
10:08
<alkisg>
Hooh9: do you mean you're using dnsmasq in proxydhcp mode?
10:08
!proxydhcp
10:08
<ltsp>
alkisg: I do not know about 'proxydhcp', but I do know about these similar topics: 'proxy-dhcp'
10:08
<alkisg>
!proxy-dhcp
10:08
<ltsp>
alkisg: proxy-dhcp: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/ProxyDHCP
10:09komunista has joined IRC (komunista!~slavko@adsl-195-098-014-097.dynamic.nextra.sk)
10:09
<alkisg>
If so, then that is the problem, that your windows dhcp server does not provide a boot filename, and your proxydhcp server only provides it to pxe clients, not to udhcpc
10:09
<Hooh9>
yes correct
10:09
<alkisg>
So your clients look for lts.conf in /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf, even if they're amd64
10:10
<Hooh9>
true
10:10
<alkisg>
Ok so that's your solution ^
10:10
Or fix your windows dhcp server to send the boot filename
10:16
<Hyperbyte>
alkisg, is there any point really in running an amd64 chroot, rather than i386, when you're using thin clients?

<alkisg>
Hyperbyte: I don't even run amd64 on servers, I use -pae kernels instead, so I'm not the correct person to ask this question :D
10:17
<Hyperbyte>
pae kernels?
10:17
<alkisg>
I heard some people saying that the amd64 kernel is about 1-2% faster
10:17
Pae kernels see up to 64 Gb RAM
10:17
So until I have systems with more than 64 Gb RAM, I don't really care about amd64 architecture...
10:18
Firefox doesn't even ship binaries for amd64, does it?
10:18ogra_ has left IRC (ogra_!~ogra@p5098ed03.dip0.t-ipconnect.de, Excess Flood)

<alkisg>
Ah and another argument against amd64 is that you waste more power if you use that instead of i386 - at least that's what I heard, I never actually googled about a proper comparison
10:35
<Hyperbyte>
Firefox doesn't have amd64 binaries?
10:36
<alkisg>
From their site, afaik no. That tells me they don't think their code is 64bit ready yet
10:36
<Hyperbyte>
Heh!
10:36
That's nuts.
