Are you wondering if they work? Having trouble installing them? etc.
09:33
Morning vagrantc
09:33
You still in EU?
09:33
<vagrantc>
UK
09:34
<sbalneav>
Cool. Oh, right, it's DEBCONF time isn't it?
09:34
<vagrantc>
been rocking it out at the debconf, yeah
09:34
sbalneav: newer version of ltspfs in debian unstable than in ubuntu, even :)
09:35
<sbalneav>
Cool.
09:35
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: and a new ltsp upload to debian ...
09:35
<sbalneav>
Did you touch up ldm to reflect the move to /var/run/ldm_socket?
09:36
<vagrantc>
yup
09:36
<sbalneav>
I must have forseen the move away from /etc/fstab, there was nothing to moving it to /var/run/ltspfs_fstab
09:36
<vagrantc>
also uploaded to debian-edu
09:36
<sbalneav>
Cool!
09:39
<Lossie>
don't know how to install them
09:40
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: haven't incorporated the crazy stuff that ogra's been doing in ubuntu with nbd and squashfs... but we should definitely test it.
09:41
sbalneav: actually, we should try your greeter, too
09:41
all the debian LTSP crew is here
09:41
<sbalneav>
Lossie: Well, you may not need them. Have you tried the "nv" driver already in X?
09:41
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: or, your ldm
09:41Q-FUNK has joined #ltsp
09:41
<sbalneav>
vagrantc: heh, mine's pretty rough yet. Lets wait a month :)
09:42
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: you're one of those lone wolf coders :P
09:42
<Lossie>
it is not that x isn't working but aren't the nvidia drivers better
09:42
<sbalneav>
Lossie: Sure, for 3D performance. But that's not going to work too well in LTSP anyway :)
09:43
vagrantc: heh, no, I'd love people to look at the source.
09:43
But once it becomes a Debian package, isn't it supposed to be finished? :)
09:43
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: well, there is "experimental"
09:43
<sbalneav>
I'm sitting here looking at adding an rc.d feature.
09:43
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: it would make it easier to get feedback
09:43
<Lossie>
sbalneav, it should ;-)
09:44
<sbalneav>
Lossie: Nah, it shouldn't. Thin clients aren't for 3d work.
09:45
vagrantc: sure, package it up.
09:45
just expect to do a lot of RE packaging on it in the next few weeks :)
09:45
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: that's what experiemental is for :)
09:45
<Lossie>
True, but berryl would make it nice dough
09:45
<sbalneav>
Lossie: ugh
09:46
<Lossie>
:-)
09:46
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: as long as it's not "break your system" kind of code, it should be fine if it kind of works
09:46
<sbalneav>
Some people may like it, however, beryl/compiz etc are, IMHO the BIGGEST wastes of time ever.
09:46
<Lossie>
:-)
09:46
<sbalneav>
vagrantc: Shouldn't break anything.
09:46
<Lossie>
ok ok
09:47
other question: Any help on speading up ldm
09:47
is there any progress?
09:47
<sbalneav>
3d's a problem in a thin client environment, because all those drawing instructions have to go over the wire.
09:47
<Lossie>
on its development
09:48
<sbalneav>
I'm working on it right now.
09:48
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: you got a bzr branch to play with ?
09:48
<sbalneav>
Sure!
09:49
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~sbalneav/ltsp/scotts-gutsy
09:49
ldm2's in the ldm2-0.1, and the greeter's in the ldmgtkgreet-0.1 dir.
09:51
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: would be better to just kill the old directories and files, i think ...
09:51
ah well, i guess we can do that when it's ready
09:51
<sbalneav>
yeah, that was my thought
09:52
I'm still a little hazy on packaging, so I wasn't sure how to make it so it built all the packages. So I just left them as unconnected directories.
09:53
I'm considering it a major coup d'etat that I'm actually comfortable using bzr now :)
09:53
<Lossie>
you'r coding ldm ?
09:53
link is a 404 btw
09:54
<sbalneav>
I didn't code the python one, although I did contribute some patches.
09:54
<vagrantc>

09:54
Lossie: bzr get URL
09:54

09:54

09:54
<vagrantc>
oops
09:55
also http://codebrowse.launchpad.net/~sbalneav/ltsp/scotts-gutsy
09:57
<Lossie>
can i compile and try it, or wouldn't it do much yet?
09:58
<sbalneav>
It's not packaged yet, so you'd have to manually compile it, the greeter, and manually install it.
09:58
within the chroot
10:00
<Lossie>
can't be that difficult, does it need certain dependencies?
