<fiesh>
alkisg: for what it's worth, our clients used NFS3, and after endless frustration I figured out it came from fsid=0 having a new special meaning in NFS4 that made our /etc/exports incompatible with NFS4. After fixing that and having the clients use NFS4 instead of NFS3, it so far appears to have become stable again!
07:15
<alkisg>
fiesh: cool, although I don't remember if you're using overlayfs or not
07:17
<fiesh>
hah I never know what that means ;) our mounts are all NFS underneath, plus tmpfs on top of that for the things that need to writable by the client
07:17
<alkisg>
If your tmpfs is set up by ltsp, it's probably using overlayfs
07:17
<fiesh>
I'm praying it stays stable now, it got so bad everything crashed several times a day
07:17
<alkisg>
If you have some manual solution, I don't know
07:17
<fiesh>
it is
07:17
<alkisg>
Which distro/version did you say that was?
07:17
<fiesh>
it's the "original" gentoo ltsp
07:18
<alkisg>
I don't think knipwim ever managed to make overlayfs work
07:18
<fiesh>
which already was somewhat defunct when I set it up, and that was... 3 years ago?
07:18
<alkisg>
I think he was still using bind-mounts
07:18
<fiesh>
oh, that sounds right, yes
07:18
<alkisg>
You'll have issues using recent ltsp versions :D
07:19
<fiesh>
yeah I cannot really update any more ;) however, it's going quite well, I can update our clients' system easily using gentoo's portage, and the ltsp scripts work fine, so no need to touch them

<sutula>
Is the lts.conf LOCAL_APPS_EXTRAMOUNTS variable the place to add remote filesystems that need to be present for fat clients?
17:30
Or is there a newer/more supported way these days?
17:30
<alkisg>
That's the one, yup
17:31
<bennabiy>
what is the format for that?
17:31
<alkisg>
!lts.conf
17:31
<ltsp>
lts.conf: (#1) http://manpages.ubuntu.com/lts.conf, or (#2) lts.conf manpage is available in the ltsp-docs package
17:32
<sutula>
alkisg: Is the "directory" some subdirectory of the server?
17:33
<alkisg>
sutula: you put the full path there, and it gets mounted with sshfs from the server to the same location on the client
17:34
<sutula>
OK, so full server path, but not the actual server name, right?
17:34
<alkisg>
/path/to/dir
17:34
No hostnames involved
17:35
<sutula>
awesome, thanks much!
17:35
<bennabiy>
alkisg: but is that for fat client or thin client?
17:35
or both?
17:35
docs only says thin
17:35
<alkisg>
fat and thin with localapps
17:35
<bennabiy>
and he asked for fat
17:35
ok
17:35
where does it mount to on the client, same dir?
17:36solpyro has left IRC (solpyro!1f355076@gateway/web/freenode/ip.31.53.80.118, Ping timeout: 260 seconds)
17:37
<alkisg>
Yup
17:38
<bennabiy>
good to know
17:38
is there a way to do the reverse, as in mount a directory from the thin client to the server?
17:38
like semi-remoteapps style
17:39
<alkisg>
ltspfs
17:40
It mounts the usb sticks from the client to the server
17:40
<bennabiy>
Is there a reason it will not work with certain larger hard drives?
17:41
<alkisg>
If they're connected via usb, sure, otherwise you'd need to set some udev rules for that
17:42
<bennabiy>
They are USB, but not working
17:42
only certain drives
17:42
and I understand on some, like encrypted drives, but others it still won't do either
17:43
<alkisg>
I'm not sure I understand, if you're talking about some ltspfs bug, you can report it on launchpad
17:48
<bennabiy>
if I can get a reproduction of the error, I will
