Hi I have a sound problem. Clients don't speak. Tried bennybiy trick, anyway
|16:16||vagrantc has joined IRC (vagrantc!~vagrant@freegeek/vagrantc)|
Hi vagrantc I followed the chan last days, about sound problem on clients. I tried the bennybiy solution but it didn't work. I'm a bit lost (google is quite mute, too)
urly: what exactly did you try?
the -L module-suspend-on-idle line add in the initscripts client
server 64bits client 32 non-pae
you ran ltsp-update-image after applying it?
are you able to get sound at all, or inconsistantly?
no sound at all, sound icon shows sounds mutes at first sound client occur. No sound at log neither.
at login I mean
|16:35||urly_ has joined IRC (urly_!58b1a4bc@gateway/web/freenode/ip.18.104.22.168)|
might just not be recognizing your sound card... are you sure the sound modules are loaded??
no I'm not sure, but I think, what module? (and got freeze got to reboot now the urly one)
|16:37||urly has left IRC (urly!58b1a4bc@gateway/web/freenode/ip.22.214.171.124, Ping timeout: 250 seconds)|
snd used by 8 on the client
chipset via ac 97
client's built-in speaker works on ubuntu 10.04 LTSP
but not on 12.04
might b ean OS driver issue
ok what should I do?
urly_: can you boot an ubuntu live image off USB stick or something? see if sound works?

trying right now, issues with ubuntu pae, loading lubuntu...
7 0 0 MHz + 2 5 6 Mo is not fair
freeze reboot reload... but when I launched audacious, notifier didn't seem to show any break, I am retrying

sound works (nice) on lubuntu 12.04 32bits liveUSB
Someone having sound issues?
Yep bennabiy, without your 'luck'
ubuntu 12.04.2, server 64bits, client 32bits non-pae (linux-generic)
Are you able to get any sound on the clients?
right now with lubuntu live usb yes, but
with ltsp no, sound seems to break when some sound client start
no sound at greeter neither
eg ubuntu sound test or firefox youtube html5 test makes mute the sound icon notifier
and modules unload themselves as well
Can you pastebin your /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/ltsp/ltsp-init-common
sorry I've never.. howto?
pastebin: the LTSP pastebin is at http://ltsp.pastebin.com. Please paste all text longer than a line or two to the pastebin, as it helps to reduce traffic in the channel. Don't forget to paste the URL of the text here.

urly_: do you have a command shell on the local machine set up?
SCREEN_02: To get a root shell on an Ubuntu thin client: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/ClientTroubleshooting#Using_a_shell_SCREEN
Admin, Channel, ChannelLogger, Config, Factoids, MeetBot, Misc, Owner, RSS, Seen, Status, Time, User, and Utilities
ok I leave lubuntu liveUSB and restart LTSP client now until screen 2
If you set up your lts.conf to enable the shell screen, I can walk you through how to manually restart your audio, and see if that fixes it temporarily
I see, client booted
I've got a root account on screen 1, good?
do you know if you have a text editor installed in your chroot?
vi I guess
Are you comfortable with vi?
more middle yes than middle no
so vi /sound.sh
sound.h in root new file opened
sorry /sound.sh new file
I will make a pastebin for you to copy from, so I do not flood the room with text
but before you run this script, we will have to clobber the current pulseaudio session
on the client shell
ps -ef | grep pulse
look for the entry that has pulseaudio --system
tell me when you are caught up
no pulse thing (no user logged...)
log in a user
Now do you have a pulse session?
I log before pasting or after?
You can make the script, and then log in
two different systems at this point
yes and some more ps grep pulse
Actually, you can also make this change for the sake of having a log... vi /usr/share/ltsp/ltsp-init-common and add in after the --system -vvvv and for the --log-target=syslog change it to --log-target=file:///pulse-debug.log
What that will do is enable debugging logging, and log all output to the root directory of the chroot, where you can copy it to the home directory of the logged in user if you need to access it.
after you do that, go ahead and clobber the pulseaudio session on the client
ok 1) I kill the ps id of pulse ? 2) I hope you will tell how to catch the logs between systems
the pulse which has the --system
You should see an bash entry, a pulse entry and your grep search
tell me when it is killed
ok ps with blablabla pulse blablabla killed, user connection killed
it was a ssh blabla pulse ... no more pulse entry
Hmm, sounds like you killed your user session
you should look at the client syslog and see if something prevented the pulseaudio from starting in the first place.
ok, ... how ? (never done the log things, but really want to)
type "/pulse" and press enter
it will search for the term pulse
you can press n to go to the next instance
allright, pulse events

hmm. did you log your user back in?
do you see a /usr/bin/pulseaudio ps entry?
should be with the user pulse
ps -f g| grep pulse doesn't say /usr/bin/pulseaudio, only ssh and grep
ok, did you make the changes to ltsp-init-common?
|19:06||Phantomas has left IRC (Phantomas!~Phantomas@ubuntu/member/phantomas, Quit: Leaving.)|
if so, then do a chmod +x /sound.sh
I did your -L change in ltsp-init-common
wait sorry my user is not in -G audio, should he?
Nope, should be in the pulse-access group
If your user is in audio, you can clobber permissions on the server potentially
? I give the group audio or pulse-access to user?
audio gives the user control over the actual hardware, which means you would be able to output sound to the server, rather than your client
in LTSP, the client machine is actually the audio server, and the server is the client
user added, and ok... very good
ok then type /sound.sh
after doing the chmod I listed above
then do a ps -ef | grep pulse
and see if you have a new listing
|19:14||Parker955 is now known as Parker955_Away|
I have some
test if you have sound
no sound, I relog my user?

vagrantc: I am finally about to build a mint client
You should check your audio now..
otherwise, you might try going to #pulseaudio and posting your log there, and see if there is any wisdom...
It looks like your user should have audio now
no sound and ps disappeared
Are you trying to log out and log back in to test, or all while logged in?
all while logged in, You want I dis-re-log?
