Hi. I have a question about the SSH config on LTSP, is the SSH default not allowed on the outside interface of the server? Or do I manualy have to block SSH towards the outside eth interface?
12:11
<johnny>
manually yes
12:12leio_ is now known as leio
12:12
<johnny>
_david_, it's stock ubuntu ssh.. so that's how it is
12:12
or stock $distro ssh rather
12:14
<_david_>
just to type that in the terminal to se the running config?
12:14
<johnny>
hmm?
12:14
you have to edit /etc/ssh/sshd_config
12:15
<_david_>
okey
12:15
i will give it a try;)
12:15
<johnny>
but.. it's nice to remotely admin servers _david_
12:15
in case you aren't at the location you can login and fix things
12:15
<_david_>
im at sight
12:15
<johnny>
sure.. until you aren't..

I have seen through the sshd_config file now and its man-file, I do not find the option there where I cound spesify that SSH should listen to eth0 only. Got any hints?

_david_: listen address
14:17
ListenAddress <ip_of_eth0>:22
14:18
<_david_>
that simple, thanks:) I misunderstood the ListenAdress option, I thought it was to spesify the adresses of clients allowed to connect:)
14:19
<sbalneav>
ListenAddress Specifies the local addresses sshd(8) should listen on. The following forms may be used:
14:20
Doesn't mention clients anywhere in there.
14:20
off for an errand. Good luck.
14:22
<_david_>
thanks:) Im writing a paper on the LTSP, will refer to this forum as it has been to great help

I know the debian guys still need someone to take over Sabayon. I've got an account on the debian devel server. What's the workflow for me to take over sabayon under debian?
15:34
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: i'd contact the maintainers, ask if they're interested in sponsoring uploads. you can find an overview of the packaging information, including the list of maintainers: http://packages.qa.debian.org/sabayon
15:35
sbalneav: if they're game, they'd add you to Uploaders, though that doesn't actually give you upload rights, confusingly enough. just makes the tools not think you're doing a non-maintainer upload when you're working on the package.
15:36
sbalneav: and will also get you a handy page here: http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=sbalneav@ltsp.org
15:37
sbalneav: if they like the work you're doing, eventually you'd probably want to become a debian-maintainer, which will give you upload rights to packages you are listed as a maintainer for...
15:37
sbalneav: er, listed as an uploader for (as long as that package accepts debian-maintainer uploads) ...
15:37
sbalneav: got it? :)
15:40
<sbalneav>
Makes sense
15:40
I think sabayon's actually been dropped in debian.
15:40
And someone like you could actually use it at freegeek
15:40
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: it's still in experimental
15:40
<sbalneav>
ah, ok
15:40
good
15:40
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: ah, trying to pull me in too? :)
15:41
<sbalneav>
Nah, I can do it, but i bet it would be useful for you
15:41
you wouldn't beleive the mail I've been getting from people being so happy sabayon works now
15:41
<vagrantc>
is it generally easy to backport to an older release? that would be necessary for it to be useful in the near future.
15:42
sbalneav: i'd love to think you get *lots* of mail from happy people :)
15:42
it would disappoint me were that not the case :)

sbalneav: hrm. non-trivial backport ...
16:31klausade has quit IRC
16:35
<sbalneav>
What's the issue with a backport
16:35
besides Xephyr?
16:35
<Brian_H>
anyone know how to force a group on a newly created file on an NFS share?
16:35
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: the current debian packaging will require some build-deps to be backported as well ..
16:36
sbalneav: don't know if that's any different from the packaging you've been working on
16:36
sbalneav: but it's not simply "build on stable" type of backport
16:37
python-gobject-dev seeming to be the main blocker.
16:37
sbalneav: does it require a recent version of xserver-xephyr?
16:40
might be possible to just lower the build-dep...
16:53
<sbalneav>
Might be.
16:53
Brian_H: In a shared directory?
16:53
Usually by setting the setgid bit on the shared directory.
16:53
So,
16:54
if you have a directory, let's say "/home/share"
16:54
and a group called "share"
16:54
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: apparently no...
16:54
<Brian_H>
yes
16:54
<sbalneav>
you can:
16:54
<vagrantc>
checking for pygobject 2.15.0 or greater... configure: error:
16:54
<sbalneav>
chgrp share /home/share
16:54
<Brian_H>
so charlie who is in the "everyone" group creates a directory/file and it's owned by charlie:charlie
16:54
<sbalneav>
chmod g+s /home/share
16:55
chmod 770 /home/share
16:55
whoops
16:55
<Brian_H>
ok I'll try this :)
16:55
<sbalneav>
sorry, chmod g+w /home/share
16:55
then anyone who creates a file in /home/share, the file will be group "share" owned
16:57
<Brian_H>
hrm, ok the files are owned by everyone now, but they are read only by the group :(
16:58
<sbalneav>
I don't think we're doing anything fancy with pygobged
16:58

what's the best way to setup a cron job for ltsp-update-image?
17:08
I have tried to set one that fetches the apt updates and then runs an image update
17:09
but it never seems to get very far on the image creation
17:09
the temp image gets created, but it is really small
17:09
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: compiled fine... no idea if it works.
17:11
<sbalneav>
ftherese: Bad idea.
17:11
if the cron job fails, you're left with a bunch of dead terminals.
17:13
<ftherese>
ok... I won't do it, I promise... but why is it that it fails?
17:14
I made a simple script that works when run from the terminal
17:14
and then have it run as a cron job
17:14
but the part that never seems to work is the update-image part
17:15Selveste1_ has quit IRC

<sbalneav>
does the update image pipe it's output to /dev/null?
17:21johnny has joined #ltsp
17:21
<sbalneav>
because the rebuild generates a lot of characters with the progress bar.
17:22
they might be filling up the pipe.
17:25
<ftherese>
I suspected that might be it... I think you are probably right
