Good morning
05:11
damormino: oneiric is still in development, of course you can expect problems
05:11
The previous Long Term Support Ubuntu Release is 10.04, it should be much easier to setup

09:11
Any Hyperbyte or Alkisg about today ? :P
09:11
<alkisg>
garymc: again, please DON'T ping specific persons :)
09:11
Anyway... here it is:
09:11
!learn fatclient-printers as You can publish printers on your network so that fat clients see them, by launching "system-config-printer" and selecting Server → Settings → Publish shared printers connected to this system

09:32
<alkisg>
OK go to system > settings > printers

09:32
Greece
09:33
<garymc>
ahhh nice
09:33
ok im in printing
09:33
<alkisg>
Do the other steps now, with the menus that I said
09:33
Server → Settings → Publish shared printers connected to this system
09:34
<garymc>
settings is not lit. It wont let me click it
09:34
do I need to do this from the actual server maybe?

<TheProf>
Good day. I recently got a new ltsp server up and running beautifully. I rsync'd all the user's home directories over, and I somehow messed up all the permissions! Everything is now owned by root rather than the user. I know I can use 'chown -R user:group . and restore it for each directory, but is there some magic to do it for ALL users at once? :)
17:47
<alkisg>
cd /home; for u in *; do echo sudo chown -R $u:$u $u; done
17:47
<shawnp0wers>
TheProf: I'd use a for loop. something like "for x in `ls /home` do"
17:48
yes, alkisg is wise. :)
17:48
<alkisg>
It'll fail for "lost+found", but shouldn't matter
17:49
<shawnp0wers>
TheProf: Make sure your user's directory permissions are sane as well.
17:49
<TheProf>
alkisg, that is a very cool line.
17:49
<shawnp0wers>
(but dont' do chmod's recursively, that might get ugly)

shawnp0wers, I'm not too familiar with directories the way I am with file permissions.

Why would Ubuntu 10.04 be a better choice for an LTSP server than 11.04? Both are LTS (long-term support), and 11.04 is newer and the current release.
18:56
<alkisg>
damormino: 11.04 is not LTS

As alkisg said, by default it enables a third display connection it has on-board (not used)...

Hmm, maybe a better solution would be to use a /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/snippet that would use "MatchProduct" so that it could be dropped unconditionally into any chroot
19:09
<Hyperbyte>
For your info, that's exactly what the script does.
19:10
<alkisg>
There would be no need for a script
19:10
<Hyperbyte>
Minor difference is that the modification is done at the time the Xorg config generated for LTSP.
19:11
The script checks the hardware, and since it's part of LTSP, it can be packaged with LTSP. I believe that was the whole intention of DLWS.

Hyperbyte: It seems to be running fine on my test system, just throwing the log errors and the occasional static pop on the audio (if it's not in use otherwise.)
20:29
From everything I've been able to find, it was a really nasty kernel bug that kept some people from booting. That was largely fixed, but some still see it. One workaround involves upping the AGP Aperture size (which doesn't apply here...)
20:30
<Hyperbyte>
The static pop is insanely annoying
20:30
Overall, I'm not too impressed with the thin clients from DLWS to be honest.
