What can i do more with my current setup(LTSP Server with Ubuntu 12.04 64bit) Fat Clients with ubuntu 12.04. I have only samba and dhcp running on ltsp server.
10:00
<Hyperbyte>
vnc786, what exactly are you asking?
10:03
<vnc786>
I want to have something like Active Directory(which to opt OpenLDAP / FreeIPA)
10:03
<Hyperbyte>
So what's holding you back? :)
10:05
<vnc786>
where to start :( and do i have to install on different Hardware or i Can install on LTSP server is it a good rule of thumb..
10:06
<Hyperbyte>
Depends on what you want. Do you want the LDAP server to be available if the LTSP server goes down, or vice versa?
10:07
My guess is that without LTSP, the LDAP server won't have anyone authenticating, and without LDAP, LTSP will not work... so it shouldn't matter one bit having them on two servers, except more maintenance.
10:07
But where to start - easy... you're running Ubuntu 12.04
10:08
Go to Google, type Ubuntu 12.04 OpenLDAP server
10:08
Lots of howto's. :-)

Morning all.
14:01
So, this week, I plan on digging into why consolekit doesn't think you've got an authenticated session with libpam-sshauth.
14:02
once I solve that, then getting proper localdev support should be much easier.
14:19
<ogra_>
consolekit is dead
14:19* ogra_ hopes you are aware
14:20
<ogra_>
(i dont think there are any distros shipping it anymore)

14:24
<ogra_>
sbalneav, right, but do you develop for already released distros ?
14:25
<sbalneav>
I'll add systemd support, as well.
14:25
We'll make the relevant bits #define'able, HAVE_CONSOLEKIT and HAVE_SYSTEMD
14:25
<ogra_>
ah, for the stripped logind only thing that debian and ubuntu use too ?

hello all... hope someone can help me
15:46
I have a HP thin client connected to a LG CS41 TV
15:47
after I get to the purple UBUNTU screen it flashes and I get no signal
15:47
I am connecting HDMI (from TV) to DVI (Thin Client)
15:47
<vagrantc>
is this the boot splash, or after login?

<ltsp`>
splash: to disable the splash screen in Ubuntu, in order to see any boot error messages, run `sudo gedit /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default` and remove quiet splash .
15:49
<michaem>
on the server?
15:49
<vagrantc>
yes
15:50
<michaem>
and then comment out the splash line?
15:51
<vagrantc>
just remove "quiet splash" from the line(s)
15:52
<michaem>
how do i restart the service rather than rebooting the server
15:52
very new to this
15:52
<vagrantc>
restart what service?
15:52
<michaem>
or can i just boot the thin client back up
15:52
<vagrantc>
yeah
15:52
<michaem>
k
15:53
<vagrantc>
it's read at thin client boot
15:53
<michaem>
the purple screen is still there
15:53
<vagrantc>
hm
15:54
did you save your changes to the file?
15:54
<michaem>
i am wondering if the client is not reading the conf file
15:54
yes
15:54
let me look again
15:54
<vagrantc>
is the client 64-bit?
15:54
<michaem>
dont know... i didnt set it up

i am trying to help someone who set it up and cant figure out the issue

label ltsp kernel vmlinuz append ro initrd=initrd.img root=/dev/nbd0 init=/sbin/init-ltsp quiet splash plymouth:force-splash vt.handoff=7 nbdroot=:ltsp_i386
15:55
<vagrantc>
do you have both i386 and amd64 in /opt/ltsp or /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp ?

let me look

try removing "quiet splash plymout:force-splash"
15:56
this is on 12.04 ?
15:56
<michaem>
yes i have both i386 and amd64
15:56
yes... 12.04
15:57
<vagrantc>
maybe the client is booting from amd64...
15:57
<michaem>
ok... how do i change that?
15:57
<vagrantc>
try editing the pxelinux.cfg/default in the amd64 dir
15:58
!splash
15:58
<ltsp`>
splash: to disable the splash screen in Ubuntu, in order to see any boot error messages, run `sudo gedit /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default` and remove quiet splash .
15:58
<vagrantc>
but use amd64 instead of i386
15:59
<michaem>
ok
15:59
made the change in the file and am booting now
16:00
i get the same outcome
16:00
i see some more info on the screen after removing the splash quiet
16:01
but then the purple screen that says ubuntu 12.04 shows up
16:01
then i get a cursor at the end of the 4 dots thats flashes and tv goes to no signal
16:02
can i build a simple i386 client? to see if its the 64bit thats the prob?

16:08
<michaem>
ok... give me a few mins

my guess is some issue with plymouth

yeah
16:23
<vagrantc>
i'm only somewhat familiar with ubuntu
16:23
<michaem>
its (void *)0)
16:24
wonder if i rebuild the client if that would solve the issue with plymouth?
16:24

doubt it, unless it was customized
16:25
do you have other machines to test with?
16:25
<michaem>
not with me
16:25

boot a laptop or some other computer as a thin client
16:25
dvi to hdmi might cause some unexpected comlications
16:25
<michaem>
not sure how to do that
16:26
ok...
16:26
<vagrantc>
most laptops should be able to select an alternate bot device at startup
16:27
usually by hitting a specific key, like F12 or something

it doesnt book... it attempts but then gets to a black screen
16:48
how can i find that out
16:48

the dhcp server is what tells it which image to boot
16:49
pgrep -l -f dhcpd

that'll tell you which is running
