hey guys, I've got a problem when booting the clients I get an error and kernel-panic the error says /sbin/init-ltsp: 1: eval: Syntax error: Unterminated quoted string
a complete reinstall didn't help... any ideas?
enaut, and did you edit init-ltsp somehow?
Or did you add a custom init-ltsp.d script?
not that I know of its not me who did the install

alkisg: how would I reset everything that is connected to /sbin/init-ltsp?
will a apt purge and reinstall do?
enaut, no, if you manually put things in /usr you need to manually remove them
So if your predecessor created e.g. /usr/share/ltsp/init-ltsp.d/50-my-script, it won't go away no matter how many reinstalls you do
alkisg: ok so after I purge I look for anything that remains and delete it?
enaut, sure, you could try that
make sure you don't uninstall more packages than needed, e.g..... ubuntu-desktop or so

install: http://wiki.ltsp.org/wiki/Installation/Ubuntu for Ubuntu, or http://wiki.ltsp.org/wiki/Installation for other distributions
alkisg: mhm I now purged and reinstalled everything but the error stays the same...
Its Ubuntu 16.04 32bit

I still don't get what goes wrong in the init-ltsp file... errors: http://imagehost.cc/image/AMoH0
I tried reinstalling all the packages and made sure that the init-ltsp file and the /usr/lib/ltsp* files are really stock files... then did an ltsp-update-image restart of the server and still the same error.
all on ubuntu 16.04 and 32bit
I have no idea where to look for some hint of a sollution :( anyone any idea? alkisg maybe?
enaut: any reason you're not using 18.04?
||cw: the one who installed it is a very conservative os chooser... And internet is so fast here you have to sleep a night before having a new iso...
and then another one for upgrades...
make sure you're not getting versions made for 18.04 on 16.04.
possibly even don't use the ppa
||cw: so you think the ppa could be incompatible with 16.04?
mhm ok that will be the next try then... and tomorrow I'll be bringing a 18.04 iso from home for backup...
enaut, can you pastebin your lts.conf?
If you have private data there feel free to PM me
enaut, i.e. I think you have a line like DIRECTIVE="value in lts.conf, with an unterminated quote

alkisg: thanks... that might have been it! I can't tell really because I did a couple of edits one of those was simplifying lts.conf now it contains two lines and ltsp works...
lts.conf: [Default] \n RM_SYSTEM_SERVICES="dnsmasq nbd-server"
but as said everything seems to be working now!

I'm having problems with sshfs and accents in directory names
but the files aren't showing up
Leolo_2: wouldn't that be a question for your distro?
It works fine here with openssh 7.6, btw...
what version of sshfs?
But I haven't seen it fail since like 8.04, 10 years ago...
All greek characters are "special" characters, so we'd know immediately
(non ascii, i mean)
