<JuJuBee>
How do I mix Fat & Thin clients? Is it in dhcp config?
14:20
<highvoltage>
lts.conf
14:23
<JuJuBee>
highvoltage: any tips on how to determine which get fat vs. thin?
14:25
<highvoltage>
JuJuBee: trying to find the exact setting myself now... I remember a setting for fat client or thin client login that you can specify per guest in lts.conf but can't seem to find that in the manpage (and I'm on someone else's computer right now so don't have my usual notes)
14:27
<JuJuBee>
which lts.conf are you looking at? /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/{OS}/lts.conf ? or /opt/ltsp/{OS}/etc/lts.conf
14:29
<highvoltage>
JuJuBee: it would be the one in tftpboot
14:30
<JuJuBee>
OK, makes sense since the one in /opt depends on fat/thin I would imagine ?
14:31mikkel has left IRC (mikkel!~mikkel@mail.dlvs.dk, Quit: Leaving)
14:31
<highvoltage>
heh, I googled it and gound the answer on my own blog
14:31
<JuJuBee>
Looking at trying to set 2G or less RAM to thin
14:32
<highvoltage>
seems like adding the following to a guest config in lts.conf will make it work like a thin client:
14:32
LTSP_FATCLIENT=false
14:32
from https://jonathancarter.org/2010/11/24/how-do-ltsp-fat-clients-work/ (see I last did it in 2010 so you can't blame me for being rusty)
14:33
(gtg)
14:33
<JuJuBee>
So anyway to apply logic like set a bunch of MAC's to be fat then anything else to be thin?
14:45
Ah, FAT_RAM_THRESHOLD....

vmlintu: have you ever checked packages.debian.org/nvidia? They have a different set of packages there that even allow many of those packages to be simultaneously installed
15:32
I wonder if we could install those in ubuntu

<alkisg>
JuJuBee: open a terminal and check the hostname
16:23
if it's "user@ltsp123", you're locally on the client
16:39
<JuJuBee>
alkisg: can you point me to documentation on how to create an i386 image on an x64 server? I already have the x64 image.
16:41
is it as simple as ltsp-build-client --arch i386 ?

<JuJuBee>
I'm trying to direct specific clients to i386 vs x64 I have in my dhcpd.conf file... http://pastebin.com/CHNFYBbK yet client with that mac still tries to boot 64 bit image
17:54
Got it working...
18:02
<alkisg1>
JuJuBee: why both i386 and amd64?
18:02
Why not use a single i386 chroot for all?
18:12
<JuJuBee>
alkisg1: I have some OLD netbooks that can't do 64bit and I have some newer workstations with 8G RAM Quad Core
18:12
<alkisg1>
JuJuBee: i386 chroots can handle up to 64gb ram
18:12ogra_ has left IRC (ogra_!~ogra_@p5098ed03.dip0.t-ipconnect.de, Ping timeout: 246 seconds)
18:12
<alkisg1>
And all cores
18:13
<JuJuBee>
I thought 32 bit could not handle multiple cores and over 4G or is that just Windows?
18:13
<alkisg1>
That's just windows, the -pae extensions which are enabled by default on linux allow the OS to use up to 64gb
18:14
There's a 4 gb limit per process, but that's not usually significant
18:14
<JuJuBee>
Still, it is good practice. I am playing with a Raspberry Pi and looking to get that booting also, but that is arm
18:14
<alkisg1>
And with i386 you save some ram (smaller pointers), but at some math workloads it's a bit slower,
18:14
all in all, usually it's not worth it to maintain 2 chroots
18:15
<JuJuBee>
I will keep that in mind for next year. I will still need an arm image

So the OLD netbooks are painfully slow with ltsp, better as standalone with xubuntu installed
