hi mealstorm

my ltsp server is not booting and it showing error as dropping to shell...wat should i do??Any suggestions
08:39
<alkisg>
Go to your distribution channel and ask
08:39
These are not ltsp questions
08:39
<vasanth>
distribution channel??
08:39
<alkisg>
#ubuntu
08:39
Or #debian etc
08:40
Also, don't expect to solve all problems in IRC, use google, ask a techinian to help you etc
08:41
And it's better to use virtual machines with snapshots when you're doing too many experiments and breaking things :)
08:41
So that you can "revert to snapshot" whenever "reinstalling samba makes clients not boot" or "now server won't boot too" etc

!ltsp-pnp
10:22
<ltsp`>
ltsp-pnp: ltsp-pnp is an alternative (upstream) method to maintain LTSP installations for thin and fat clients that doesn't involve chroots: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/ltsp-pnp

<minetreu>
as the page suggest a setup with one nic, i am wondering if the only difference (on a 2 nic setup) is then the build image with arguments like ' --cleanup /'
10:26
<alkisg>
minetreu: differences: no chroot, it uses the server installation
10:26
uses dnsmasq instead of isc-dhcp
10:26
uses dnsmasq instead of tftpd-hpa
10:27
supports both 1-nic and 2-nic setups
10:27
<minetreu>
question is now, what will be the changes in dhcp.conf
10:27
thank you alkisg
10:27
<alkisg>
You want to use isc-dhcp?
10:27
Not the suggested dnsmasq?
10:28
<minetreu>
i wont need it?
10:28
<alkisg>
If you want a 2nic setup with ltsp-pnp,
10:28
you just set the second nic to 192.168.67.1
10:28
You don't need anything else
10:28
<minetreu>
ok
10:28
<alkisg>
(i.e. just follow the wiki page)
10:29
<minetreu>
i give it a try, my chroot wont be lost, right?
10:29
the previous created...
10:29
<alkisg>
It won't, but do move it aside so that you don't confuse yourself
10:29
I.e. do a mv /opt/ltsp /opt/ltsp-bak
10:30
<minetreu>
got it
10:30
ty - for this and all the work so far
10:33
epoptes will be my next one, am i able to epop through vpn??
10:33
<alkisg>
To connect to your ltsp server from home?
10:33
epoptes is about managing ltsp clients from the ltsp server
10:34
If you want to run it remotely, you just use a generic solution like x2go
10:34
<minetreu>
x2go sounds cool
10:38
i guess similar would be a shh -X myltsp.server.de in a xinited shell, what you say
10:38
<alkisg>
Yes, just x2go is much faster
10:39
<minetreu>
uh - so i will like it :)
10:46
is there need for contributing , in form of german translations, to the ltsproject?

<JuJuBee>
Can I run epoptes (server GUI component) from a non ltsp client?
17:28alkisg has joined IRC (alkisg!~Thunderbi@ubuntu/member/alkisg)
17:31
<alkisg>
JuJuBee: you can use `ssh -XC server epoptes`
17:33
<JuJuBee>
alkisg: So I have an ltsp server running, I installed epoptes-client into chroot and configured the SERVER=laptop directive (set "{my laptop IP} laptop" in /etc/hosts)
17:33
<alkisg>
JuJuBee: that would require your laptop being on all the time
17:34
The clients try to connect to the server when they boot
17:34
And they keep trying until they succeed
17:34
But there's no reconnection feature
17:34
<JuJuBee>
So is epoptes installed by default with ltsp server?
17:34
<alkisg>
So just let the clients connect to server, and either boot your laptop as a fat client, or use ssh -XC or x2go
17:35
<JuJuBee>
should I go back and set the SERVER=server on clients (chroot)?
17:35
<alkisg>
No, you need to install it as per epoptes.org/installation
17:35
Yes, uncomment it so that it falls back to the default SERVER=server for chroot, and SERVER=localhost for server
17:39
<JuJuBee>
alkisg: SERVER=localhost in /etc/default/epoptes-client ?
17:41khildin has joined IRC (khildin!~khildin@ip-213-49-116-25.dsl.scarlet.be)
17:42
<alkisg>
JuJuBee: keep the defaults
17:42
Don't edit files
17:43
<JuJuBee>
alkisg: OK, I opened using ssh -XC and I see the workstations. When I send a message to a workstation nothing happens
17:44
last bit of output from cli is http://pastebin.com/3vTF9aJx
17:44
<alkisg>
JuJuBee: close epoptes and re-open it
17:44
I think it's a bug related to running epoptes the first time
17:44
Phantomas: you've seen this ^
17:44
?
17:45
<JuJuBee>
alkisg: same output in cli
17:46
<alkisg>
ls -lhaR .config/epoptes/
17:46
Output?
17:47
<JuJuBee>
Interesting that I can control the workstation but not send messages
17:48
no folder ~/.config/epoptes
17:48
Maybe I need to run once from the server physically?
17:48
<alkisg>
On the server, right? Try to create it and then run epoptes again
17:48
It shouldn't make a difference...
17:49
<JuJuBee>
That did the trick
17:49
This is awesome software.
17:49
<alkisg>
Do file a bug about the problem you saw
17:51
<JuJuBee>
Was running the software supposed to create the epoptes folder in .config if not exists?
17:51
<alkisg>
Yes
17:51
<JuJuBee>
OK, where to file bug?
17:53
<alkisg>
I think there's a link in the epoptes help menu
17:57
<JuJuBee>
https://bugs.launchpad.net/epoptes/+bug/1395808
17:58
alkisg: do you happen to know if I can run pi-ltsp and ltsp together on same box?
18:13Grembler has left IRC (Grembler!~Ben@cpc29-aztw22-2-0-cust128.18-1.cable.virginm.net, Quit: I Leave)
18:28
<alkisg>
JuJuBee: I don't know what pi-ltsp is, but surely you can host multiple images from multiple arches on the same ltsp server
18:28
E.g. /opt/ltsp/images/pi.img, i386.img, amd64.img etc
18:44
<JuJuBee>
alkisg: I will look into this tomorrow. I have to be going now. Thanks for the help.
