17:45
<julienfayad>
hey alkisg I digged a bit deeper into my USB mount issue
17:45
on FAT client the problem seems to be related to :
17:46
1. The partition type used 2. The partition table used 3. The format
17:46
what appears to work is a GUID partition table with a fat partition —> it mounts automatically with no issue
17:47
but an MBR partition table with a fat partition is unable to mount automatically, yet a mount through terminal (ssh locally as root) works…
17:47
<vagrantc>
that's mysterious
17:47
i've almost exclusively used MBR devices to test it
17:47
<julienfayad>
(note that I need MBR to work so I can plug the USB to a printer which doesn’t recognise the disk if the partition table is GUID)
17:48
hey vagrantc, how are you ? well yeah that’s why I’m reporting my findings here
17:48
because this seems quite weird to me…
17:49
now since I read a bit about the process, maybe mount is able to mount the disk but fusermount is not (as from what I read, FUSE takes care of mounting USB sticks… ?)
17:49
but then the question would be why...
17:50
<vagrantc>
it's always worked before
17:51
julienfayad: well, the mount process is done as root with the mount command on the local client
17:51
julienfayad: so fuse isn't involved there
17:52
julienfayad: fuse is only used for the server-side mount and transferring the data over the network
17:52
<julienfayad>
so you are saying that when a user inserts a USB disk, the mount automatically happens as root ?
17:52
<vagrantc>
yes
17:52
if you're talking about ltspfs
17:53
<julienfayad>
well I’m not sure
17:53
what I know is that this is a FAT client not a thin one
17:53
<vagrantc>
ideally, you wouldn't use any ltsp-specific code for that at all, then
17:54
for fat clients
17:54
julienfayad: the same setup works fine with the same distro version without running ltsp?
17:55
could try a live image or something
17:55
<julienfayad>
I didn’t try that yet, let me try now
17:56
<vagrantc>
what distro/version you trying?
17:59
<julienfayad>
it is ubuntu 16.04 Mate
17:59
and yes same issue with the LIVE image
18:01
seems to be a Mate issue vagrantc ...
18:02
or maybe it’s a problem with the way I partition/format the usb key...
18:04
<vagrantc>
alright, glad to see LTSP is off the hook :)
18:08
<julienfayad>
hehe yes
18:19
ohh also since I’m here, do you know why changing the keyboard layout in the initial login screen doesn’t have any effect ?
18:20
explicitly, I have a machine with an azerty keyboard
18:20
<highvoltage>
hey there vagrantc
18:20
<julienfayad>
and I managed to add Fr_fr local, so French is listing in the Keyboard Input list of the login screen… but changing it has no effect it still inputs as a qwerty keyboard
18:20* vagrantc waves
18:21
<highvoltage>
vagrantc: have you done any ltsp stretch artworky stuff yet? I'm installing a chroot to poke around at it now fwiw
18:21
<vagrantc>
julienfayad: LDM doesn't have a keyboard switcher, as far as i'm aware
18:21
highvoltage: haven't touched it!
18:21
highvoltage: would love it if you took a stab at it :)
18:22* vagrantc doesn't recall if ldm-themes has a VCS in debian...
18:22
<highvoltage>
vagrantc: I can also remember we talked about native vs quilt package for it last time but can't remember what the conclusion was (whether we should keep it native or make an upstream git repository with tarball)
18:22
<vagrantc>
julienfayad: so if you're using some other login manager ... dunno.
18:23
highvoltage: since it's debian-specific themes, i don't see much reason to make it non-native
18:23
<highvoltage>
vagrantc: if it has, it's not listed in the vcs-fields
18:23
(so I doubt it)
18:23
vagrantc: cool
18:23
<vagrantc>
highvoltage: i *might* have toyed with using dgit with it at some point
18:24
julienfayad: LDM has locale selection only, as far as i know, and it only changes the locale of the session, not LDM itself
18:24
<julienfayad>
vagrantc: so the select language for session to use has no effect on the keyboard ? Then how I can set a specific machine to have French keyboard layout on LDM ?
18:24
<vagrantc>
julienfayad: you can't!
18:25
julienfayad: oh, a specific machine ... i think there are lts.conf options for that
18:25
!lts.conf | echo julienfayad
18:25
<ltsp>
julienfayad lts.conf: (#1) http://manpages.ubuntu.com/lts.conf, or (#2) lts.conf manpage is available in the ltsp-docs package
18:26* vagrantc wonders if the bot wandered off for snacks or soemthing
18:27
<julienfayad>
Not even through an lts.conf directive ?
18:27
lol
18:27
I’m checking it
18:27
I’m trying XKBLAYOUT now
18:28
<vagrantc>
unfortunately, the software world caters to my native language tendencies, so i'm not very well versed in in such issues
18:36
<julienfayad>
vagrantc: that was it :-)
