hello my old good friends :D . i need your help!!! i have ltsp (not pnp) installed on my ubutnu server 16.04 (vmware virtual machine) and fat clients with ubuntu 16.04. everything works fine but sound. sound is bad: i compared sound quality with normal installs and its much worse. did someone experienced something like this?
08:15
sound is like higher and like vibrating or i dont know how to say. :( sorry for my poor english
08:15
<alkisg>
Does sound work fine if you boot the fat clients with a 16.04 live cd?
08:16
(or usb stick)
08:25SYS64738 has left IRC (SYS64738!~SYS64738@159.213.93.166, Remote host closed the connection)
08:25
<al-geo>
hi alkisg, how are you my friend? :D i didnt try this yet but on same machines with opensuse 13.2 sound is perfect and on my desktops with ubuntuX64 16.04 sound is great too. now i will try to create liveUSB with ubuX32-16.04 but looks like its ltsps fault.
08:26
<alkisg>
al-geo: ltsp fat clients don't touch the sound settings
08:27
It's like running a live cd or a local installation
08:27
LTSP thin clients run pulseaudio to forward the sound from the server etc, but you're not talking about thin clients
08:27
So, I don't think it's an issue with LTSP at all.
08:34
<al-geo>
alkisg can i somehow disable pulseaudio and work with just alsa? i try autorespawn = no but its still launches an if i apt remove pulseaudio client says that the there is no sound cards and alsa update and pray did nothing
08:34
<alkisg>
al-geo: ubuntu uses pulseaudio, if you want to disable it, ask in #ubuntu
08:35
LTSP doesn't touch the sound settings and applications for fat clients
08:35
Did you try with the live cd? maybe you just need a different kernel there...
08:35
(btw, what's the output of `getltscfg -a` on the client?)

08:46
Wyse mws 9940 and LTSP... is that possible?
08:47
<alkisg>
Can that run linux?
08:47
if it runs linux, it can also run ltsp
08:47
<storm_>
Those are ZeroClients

<alkisg>
If it's a zero client that cannot run linux, then it cannot run ltsp either
08:48
ltsp is "linux terminal server project", it only works if the clients can run linux
08:49
<storm_>
I understand...
08:49
<al-geo>
https://pastebin.com/zr6HPjTb
08:49
<storm_>
so it cannot run on ZeroClients without any ram...
08:49
<alkisg>
No, neither linux nor ltsp can run there

Just buy something like this ^
08:52
less than 100€ per client...
08:52
<storm_>
the goal was to totally reuse the customer's hardware and they have those f....g zero clients
08:53
but i will look into it
08:53
thanks for the tip mate
08:53
<alkisg>
They're not worth the trouble
08:53
Throw them away
08:54
<storm_>
eh.... i will probably have to... but i am not sure the customer will be happy about that... well... we will see
08:54
<alkisg>
I'm sure he won't be happy if he keeps them too

thin-clients-bandwidth: A small explanation why thin clients can't perform well with video, lots of screen updates etc: https://sourceforge.net/p/ltsp/mailman/message/35694699/
08:55
<alkisg>
That applies for zero clients too, read it
08:56
That's why ltsp proposes netbooted fat clients nowadays
08:57
<storm_>
i have read that documentation and i understood the principles... i totally agree on the fat clients matter, the problem is there's not a fitting environment
08:58
<alkisg>
I'm not sure I understand there
08:58
The difference between fat and thin is only on cpu/ram
08:58
and since it's < 100€, I don't see the issue
08:58
No disk, same form factor/size...
09:00
<al-geo>
alkisg i have guied app and i create systemctl service that runs script that runs x and xfce4 and than my app and it works like charm :) but my coworkers are worry about sound quality
09:00
<alkisg>
al-geo: ah, then it's your script that's broken, ok :)
09:00
Still not an ltsp issue...
09:01
LTSP doesn't touch the sound settings or applications
09:01
<al-geo>
with cmus and moc players is the same issue
09:01
<alkisg>
(in fat client case)
09:01
OK, since it's not related to LTSP, there's no point in discussing it here...
09:01
<al-geo>
ok pal thanks
09:01
<alkisg>
It's a custom solution :)
