hi guys
03:27
#help
03:28
<cyberorg>
bao: try to connect over xdmcp from the client
03:28
you can do that by running X -query serverip at runlevel 3 after logging in
03:29
<bao>
do you mean I needn't care setup ltspcfg now?
03:29
<cyberorg>
if you have finished setup except of that error, try booting client
03:30
<bao>
ok, I will try it, thanks
03:30
<cyberorg>
bao: if you are interested in testing ltsp5 on suse visit en.opensuse.org/LTSP for more info
03:31
<bao>
oh, I will try it
03:31
<cyberorg>
it doesnt require xdmcp :)
03:31
<bao>
really?
03:32
<cyberorg>
sound and local printer still needs some work before they will work, local disks access sort of works
03:33
<bao>
I don't care sound and printer so far
03:33
<cyberorg>
cool, but it is far far away from production readiness
03:34
<bao>
nice
03:35
where can I download ltsp 5?

03:39
<Bhaskar1>
where can i find good documentation about LTSP 5
03:39
<vagrantc>
!ltsp5
03:39
<ltspbot`>
vagrantc: "ltsp5" is ltsp5 is The next version of LTSP, and the future of Thin Client computing on GNU/Linux. http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/Ltsp5
03:39
<bao>
does ltsp 5 work with opensuse 10.2 (x86_64)?
03:39
<vagrantc>
bao: sounds like they're just getting started with ltsp5
03:39
<RichEd>
Bhaskar1: sbalneav does most of the documentation ... he's around here with me for a bit ... but not online now ... vagrantc ask scotty for a pointer please
03:40
<vagrantc>
bao: but as long as oponsuse supports x86_64, then the opensuse ltsp5 implementation should work fine when it's finished.
03:40
<bao>
oh, I wish it is even easy to setup
03:40
<ogra>
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP
03:41

I can download ltsp 4.2 iso file and burn to a cd for setup, is there iso file for ltsp5 now?
03:43
<ogra>
there are tarballs
03:43
<cyberorg>
bao: iso files are history with ltsp5
03:43

03:47

03:48
<ogra>
sudo apt-get install ltsp-server-standalone openssh-server
03:48

03:48
...

whats hard about that ?
03:48
:)
03:49
<nf1>
ogra, :)
03:49
<cyberorg>
ogra: on suse it is just Run as root "sh /usr/share/kiwi/image/kwltsp-suse-10.2/setup-ltsp.sh"
03:49
<ogra>
right
03:49
thats how it should be :)
03:49
<bao>
oh
03:50
<cyberorg>
sets up /srv/kiwi-ltsp chroot image, sets up nfs export, sets up initrd and kernel images in tftpboot
03:50
only thing that needs to be done manually is set up dhcp to pxeboot
03:51
<bao>
oh, i would very like to try it, thanks cyberorg
03:52
BTW, what's reason of my problem in ltsp4.2, your guess?
03:52

Bhaskar1, in ubuntu we have it on the installer CD, you just pick it in an expert install ... or you take edubuntu which defaults to instal it
03:56
<Bhaskar1>
ogra, i have now install edubuntu 7.04
03:56
<ogra>
i assume debian has taken that but i never tested any debian CDs so i cant promis its ther :)

03:59
<Bhaskar1>
ya, but offline, i have try but my system is crashed
03:59
<vagrantc>
Bhaskar1: debian is the 2nd distro to implement ltsp5
03:59
<Bhaskar1>
ya, but i have Nepalinux based on debian, i want to integrate
04:00
<vagrantc>
Bhaskar1: does nepalinux include the ltsp-server package and ltsp-client packages ?
04:00
<Bhaskar1>
no
04:01
<vagrantc>
well, you'll need those ...
04:01
Bhaskar1: nepalinux is based on debian?
04:01
<Bhaskar1>
i have download 150 MB, package and run apt-get install ltsp-server (or ltsp-server-standalone) and then run ltsp-build-client
04:01
<vagrantc>
no need to download the 150MB tarball if you install ltsp-server

ok

jammcq: how are you
12:08
<cliebow_>
fxrsliberty, how are you doing?
12:08
<fxrsliberty>
hey cliebow
12:08
do you know the lts.conf for ltsp5 that bypasses ldm
12:09
<vagrantc>
SCREEN_07=startx
12:09
then you'll need to configure XDMCP on your server.
12:09
<fxrsliberty>
thanks
12:10
<cliebow_>
i was just gonna say that 8~)
12:10
<vagrantc>
cliebow_: you can walk fxrsliberty through XDMCP configuration if they need it then :)

12:17
<cliebow_>
fxrsliberty, ubuntu?
12:17
of course..
12:17
use gdmconfig from a commandline
12:17
<fxrsliberty>
nope
12:17
<Guaraldo>
fxrsliberty: gdm or kdm?
12:18
<fxrsliberty>
opensuse
12:18
<cliebow_>
and gdm?
12:18
<fxrsliberty>
yup
12:18
<Guaraldo>
cliebow_: maybe kdm... opensuse uses kde
12:19
fxrsliberty: doesn't?
12:19
<fxrsliberty>
:)
12:19
<cliebow_>
fxrs: you have an /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess/
12:20
must have an Xaccess file somewhere
12:20
<Guaraldo>
fxrsliberty: On gdm you must have a file named /etc/gdm/gdm.conf... on kdm you must have /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc

i have some wireless clients running Slax and connecting win2003 terminal server but now i would like to conect these thinclients to LTSP... slax got ip from DHCPD.. setting filename parameter on dhcpd.conf will Slax gets ltsp-kernel and connect to ltsp X server ?
15:12
<Guaraldo>
danrez: Booting from dhcp???
15:13
<danrez>
booting from slax CD
15:13
these thinclients are wireless
15:14
<Guaraldo>
danrez: I mean... It will not take the kernel, but you can use LTSP server changing X configuration (startx script)
15:14
danrez: How it is a cd... I dont know how you can do that...
15:14
<danrez>
configuring xdmcp
15:15
<Guaraldo>
danrez: Does this clients are able to boot for wireless network (Is that possible?)?
15:15
<danrez>
do u slax ?
15:15
its a livecd slackware based...
15:15
<Guaraldo>
danrez: On server you must configure XDMCP
15:16
<danrez>
it confiogures wireless cards and get ip from dhcp
15:16
<Guaraldo>
danrez: Yep... I know Slax
15:16
<danrez>
will try to explain my problem...
15:17
<Guaraldo>
but what i meant was if is that possible to boot from wireless network (without cd or hd)
15:17
<danrez>
no no no...
15:17
unfortunately.. this not possible..
15:17
hmmm
15:17
<sepski>
Guaraldo, only with a extrenal wifi2ethernet bridge.
15:17
<danrez>

debugged xvnc4viewer and xrealvncviewer a lot today. it turns out that when the background color of the desktop changes the protocol sends hundreds of 16x16 tiles. this is not a problem as such as it is transferred almost instantly over ethernet. the problem is that xvnc4viewer does XShmPutImage for _every_ such 16x16 tile which takes 20-80 ms on a 200MHz

not sure how relevant this is to ltsp though since i don't know if ltsp tries to only use X or if VNC is also an option ;)
