While testing ltsp I wouldn't need a switch would I (one client). Couldn't I just connect the two through ethernet?
01:05
<muppis>
What?-)
01:06
<knipwim>
a crosslink cable perhaps
01:07
<fossala>
Sorry all my server components have arrived and so has the thin client. I wan't to set it up to test but I don't have my switch yet. Could I just connect the two with an ethernet cable?
01:07
<muppis>
If you want to test with one client and you don't have a switch, then you can use crossover cable.
01:10
But isn't new nics capable to Auto Cross?
01:11
<Merwin>
How can I upgrade my thin clients from 10.04 to 10.10 ?
01:11
Ding a dist-upgrade in the chroot ?

<alkisg>
Merwin: why would you do that? 10.04 will be supported for much longer than 10.10. Or are you going to upgrade to 11.04 right after the first upgrade?
01:43
Anyway, it's suggested that when you want to upgrade, to upgrade the server normally, and then to delete your existing chroot and run ltsp-build-client from scratch
01:49
<Merwin>
alkisg: because I've some problem with the intel driver and I hope that they have been fixed in 10.10 :x

I've localapps in my chroot so I didn't want to create a new one
01:49
But I will if it's mandatory
01:51
Just copying my new 10.10 sources.list into the chroot and do dist-upgrade in the chroot will work?
02:16
<alkisg>
Merwin: why don't you just install the maverick kernel to lucid? It's already in the repositories, just an apt-get install away...
02:16
Which intel chipset, btw?
02:17
`apt-get install linux-image-generic-lts-backport-maverick` in the chroot
02:18
The newer kernels (maverick, natty, oneiric) etc are backported to LTS releases (and only there)
02:21
Merwin: also, you can create a maverick chroot in your lucid server, without upgrading the server. `ltsp-build-client --dist maverick` or something like that.
02:21

I'm an ltps user and I'm looking for a way to execute a script when I log in.

The script is on the server ltps log me in of course.

Put a .desktop file for it in /etc/xdg/autostart

Hey guys - question - with 11.10 being the first version of Ubuntu with the removal of Gnome Classic, what will happen with LTSP and clients that can't quite power Unity or Gnome Shell? Or, am I completely wrong with my assumption that thin clients/ltsp works flawless with Unity and Gnome Shell?

07:51
sorry about bad english..
07:52
<alkisg>
I think ltsp 4.2 has been unsupported upstream for more than 5 years now, no? So how can some distro support it, if it's unsupported upstream?
07:53
<jonathashortense>
does TLSP-5 works well with the network adapter RTL SC8110?
07:54
<alkisg>
LTSP 5 uses the distro kernel. So if your distro supports that network adapter, so will ltsp

i tried to instal ltsp5 on fedora, but it didnt workout

what's the message?
07:56
(and I recommend you use LTSP5)

the message:

07:57
KERNEL PANIC - NOT SYNCING: ATTEMPTED TO KILL INIT!
07:58
<alkisg>
I think Hyperbyte tried to use ltsp5 in fedora 14 and got so frustrated that he switched to Edubuntu. LTSP is unsupported in Fedora currently. Maybe it will be supported again in the future, some development has started again. Until then you might want to try some other distro.
07:58
<jonathashortense>
the manufacturer of thin client says that i need to upgrade the kernel, to work with RTL8110SC network adapter... thats why im trying this..
07:59
<Appiah>
or just use K12..
07:59
if you cant switch from Fedora
07:59
<jonathashortense>
yes, everybody saying the same.. chenge your distro. lol
07:59
but i cant, because thereis another services running on that machine..
08:00
i tried k12, but it is not supported on fedora 14, just fedora 13.
08:00
<Appiah>
well then you are gonna have to do something no one in here has done
