hi to all. Anyone how as experience with the REMOTE_APPS_MENU_ITEMS value? it does not work for me and unfortunately it is not documented at all (ore I'm to dump to find the documentation). There seems to be a bug in the LTSP.genmenu
10:35
ähm /usr/bin/ltsp-genmenu scripte
10:46
<work_alkisg>
meamy: what's the output of `getltscfg -a` locally on the client? Put that to pastebin
10:46work_alkisg is now known as alkisg
10:52
<meamy>
alkisg its a fat client in an cluster environment http://pastebin.com/8mJ3Zqek
10:53
<alkisg>
meamy: remove the space after the comma
10:54
REMOTE_APPS_MENU_ITEMS="thunderbird,debian-xterm"
10:54
Reboot the client to get the new lts.conf, and let's see where the script stops

<meamy>
does still not work i added some logger messages to my ltsp-genmenu script http://pastebin.com/eDGFhWxD some how he does not find the .desktop files
11:09
<alkisg>
meamy: what's the output of getltscfg -a after the change you did?
11:09
<meamy>
but the TMP_SHARE Dir is mountet correctly (its done by the /usr/share/ldm/rc.d/X02-genmenu) testet that already so i see no reason why the script does not finde the .desktop files
11:09
<alkisg>
I still see a space in the logger output
11:09
You need this: (12:54:09 μμ) alkisg: REMOTE_APPS_MENU_ITEMS="thunderbird,debian-xterm"
11:10
Feb  4 11:56:29 ltsp10903 logger: thunderbird debian-xterm
11:10
<meamy>
the space is gone in getltscfg-cluster -a
11:12
pastebin.com/Gk4Mtj5m
11:12
<alkisg>
logger "i = ${i}"
11:12
Put that two lines above, before the if
11:13
And also
11:13
put this there: ls "${TMP_SHARE}/applications" > /tmp/ls.out
11:13
And pastebin the output of /tmp/ls.out too afterwards
11:14
Hmm
11:15
meamy: I think TMP_SHARE isn't exported
11:15
x02-genmenu:
11:15
TMP_SHARE="$(mktemp -d /tmp/share-XXXXXX)"
11:15
change that to: export TMP_SHARE="$(mktemp -d /tmp/share-XXXXXX)"
11:15
And see if it helps
11:16
<meamy>
mm that could be true my former check if TMP_SHARE is mountet was in X02-genmenu

<meamy>
alkisg still not working pastebin.com/21gjmuWv there is a "/" added some where
11:31
<alkisg>
I think the problem is that the code is broken :D
11:32
local_dektop = /tmp/ltsp-remoteapps-hannes-PCTDOy/applications//tmp/share-PbIu04/applications/debian-xterm.desktop
11:32
There are 2 tmp dirs in that line
11:34
Line 78:
11:34
local_desktop=${TMP_XDG_DIR_LOCAL}/applications/${desktop##/usr/share/applications/}
11:34
That should instead read something like:
11:35
local_desktop=${TMP_XDG_DIR_LOCAL}/applications/${desktop##$TMP_SHARE}
11:36* alkisg doesn't like the whole implementation though... it'd be much much easier to just modify /usr/share/applications/* directly
11:37
<meamy>
yeah true. the hole generate-remote() function is just copy and paste from the generate-local() function. ok i try that (or maybe i just rewrite the hole function )
11:37
<alkisg>
meamy: so, you might want to file a bug about it, and just use a sed line in your RCFILE_0x lts.conf lines
11:37
RCFILE_0x="sed 's/^Exec=...//' -i file.desktop" etc

alkisg: what i see as conclusion is the following:
17:30
change all the `eval_gettext` to $(_ "text %s" "$var")
17:33
<alkisg>
knipwim: right, and also vagrantc will do the necessary makefile changes, and what's left is to make a wrapping function for the usage functions
17:33
(or something equivalent there)
17:35
<knipwim>
so, do we have a plan? start immediately, or tag first and then go
17:36
and first turn of the autosync for translations :)
17:37
<alkisg>
knipwim: let's check what we can do with multiline messages like usage functions first
17:37* alkisg is testing with ltsp-chroot...
17:39
<knipwim>
that probably won't work, it needs the indenting spaces
17:40
or we have to make an automatic break for such cases
17:40
<alkisg>
knipwim: here's the simple scenario: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1609806/
17:40
<knipwim>
break at x lines, and indent after
17:40
<alkisg>
Yeah that was the second scenario, the formatting function
17:40
There's a coreutils utility for wrapping, let me find which one it was...

17:41
<knipwim>
hmm, i guess the most simple on will work
17:42
<alkisg>
fmt
17:42
We could check if /usr/bin/fmt exists, and use it if available
17:43
If not, we just produce output that is translated but not indented... it's not so bad
17:44
<knipwim>
ltsp-update-image --help :)
17:44
<alkisg>
echo 'Temporarily remove user accounts, logs, caches etc from the chroot before exporting the image. The chroot arch is required to be compatible with the server arch.' | fmt -w 45
17:45
Btw is there any installation that doesn't have `fmt`?
17:46
And btw #2, do we have any other multiline messages except for usage functions?
17:49
knipwim: I think that we could rewrite the ltsp-update-image usage() function a bit differently so that we don't have any multiline messages at all, making all the wrapping talk irrelevant :D
17:49
<knipwim>
on gentoo it's part of coreutils
17:49
also update-sshkeys
17:49
and probably others
17:49
but sure
17:49
we have to expand the help2man includes
17:52* knipwim is looking at the trunk and thinking about tagging a release for gentoo first
17:53
<alkisg>
knipwim: I want to ship a version for greek schools with the nvidia bug and the sshfs bug fixed
17:53
So yeah let's wait until I commit 2 fixes, and you tag a new release, before we start doing the translations
17:53
I'm guessing I'll do those within 3-4 days
17:53
Sounds ok?
17:54
<knipwim>
sure
17:54
i'm in no real hurry for the translations

ltspuser_14: and what's the output `mount` on the server at that point?
18:28
*of
18:28
<ltspuser_14>
i make su and also no access
18:29
ls -la: d????????? ? ? ? ? ? USB20FD
18:30
server output mount: ltspfs on /media/dokware/USB20FD type fuse.ltspfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,user_id=1000,group_id=1000)
18:30
<alkisg>
ltspuser_14: `su - user`, not plain su
18:31
So it's mounted fine, can't the user navigate to /media/dokware/USB20FD on the server?
18:33
<ltspuser_14>
alkisg: i sorry yes it works the user can navigate to
18:34
alkisg: but there is no info if an stick is put in, who can i do this?
18:35
<alkisg>
ltspuser_14: the problem there is that no LTSP developer is using KDE, so some of the users need to send patches to get desktop icons or notifications when usb sticks are inserted etc
18:36
<ltspuser_14>
ok, but it works thanks!

Can anyone help me get started? I've gotten my network setup for PXE booting and my tftp server seems to be working. My thin client shows the Ubuntu 12.04 loading screen with the 4 dots for a little while. Then it throws some text errors and leaves me at a prompt.
20:31
There are several errors about mounting the file system with difference paths and it says no such file or directory
20:31
Then it says target filesystem doesn't have requested /sbin/init-ltsp

I am using ubuntu

However, the root is set to nbdroot=:ltsp_amd64, not an ip address/port

Oh
20:54
Yes, I added IPAPPEND 3 to the default file
20:54
err I think that is my problem
20:55
I thought I did but I missed adding it to the amd64 one and did i386 by accident

those directions seem to do it in a way that will get overridden when you run ltsp-update-kernels
21:05
so maybe you re-ran ltsp-update-kernels
21:05
<gp>
maybe so
21:05
Is there a better way?
