muppis: I believe we discussed this a week ago. What is the problem?
02:35
<muppis>
elias_a, got signed PDF that don't open in Evince.
02:36
<elias_a>
muppis: Is it thin client related problem, then? Does it open in a standalone Linux PC?
02:39alkisg1 is now known as alkisg

<muppis>
It requires acroread to open correctly. Actually my question is, do I really need install that giant to chroot to get it working correctly fir FF..
02:40
s/fir/with/
02:41
<elias_a>
muppis: If you are running FF as localapps you have to include Acroread to chroot AFAIK.
02:42
<muppis>
Bummer.
02:43
<elias_a>
There is a part of code missing that would make it possible to call programs on the server from a localapps browser.
02:45
muppis: See this thread in Finnish: http://lists.coss.fi/pipermail/educoss/2010-September/000542.html

Hi All, got LTSP 5 running a treat. Firefox with flash plugin is running as a local app wonderfully. How do we get local app firefox to use the servers pdf viewer (currently evince) when opening a pdf document ?
04:50

10:33 EST
04:52
or is it EEST?
04:54
<asachs>
elias_a: hmm so the answer is "get coding to solve this problem" :)
04:54
<elias_a>
asachs: Kind of, yes :)
04:55
I cannot code so I just spread the information...
04:55
<alkisg>
Can't you just associate *.pdf with "ltsp-remoteapps evince" on the chroot?
04:55
<asachs>
elias_a: well then what was looking like short task just got some teeth. i wonder where firefox gets its mime types from ...
04:56
<alkisg>
From sharedmimeinfo and from /etc/mailcap - /etc/mime.types
04:57bobby_C has quit IRC
04:58
<asachs>
alkisg: thanks thats a great start :)
04:59
<alkisg>
asachs: try remote apps first to see that that part it working , i.e. set REMOTE_APPS=True in lts.conf and from a localxterm try launching evince with: ltsp-remoteapps evince some_file
04:59
!localxterm
04:59
<ltspbot>
alkisg: "localxterm" :: while sitting on a thin client, open a gnome terminal. In that, run: ltsp-localapps xterm. An xterm will open. That xterm runs locally, so any commands you enter there are executed directly on the client.
04:59
<alkisg>
Then you just need to set the association in the chroot
05:00
<asachs>
alkisg: remote apps are working for me
05:01
alkisg: all works from the local xterm - so i guess its just learning mailcap syntax :)
05:01
great stuff !
05:01
<alkisg>
And sharedmimeinfo, in /usr/share/mime/packages/package.xml
05:01
I think firefox prefers that first
05:02
(you'd need to run update-mime-datebase after adding the .xml file there)
05:02
A "common-remoteapps-associations.deb" package could be handy for this use case...
05:02
<asachs>
alkisg: wow thanks
05:03
alkisg: i guess ltsp could make some assumptions based on what is configured as a localapp
05:05
<alkisg>
I have some debian/mime and debian/sharedmimeinfo files that could be used as templates for that. More in 30', bbl :)

Any change get login working with smartcard ?
06:32
<Appiah>
the same way you change the login to go to ldap (pam_ldap) you could change it to pam_whatever handling smartcards
06:32
never used that but smartcards to work for logging into linux
06:32
you could always try :)
06:33
<muppis>
Founded one howto from forums. I'll try that. :)
06:33
<Appiah>
wonder if LDM needs some tweaking..
06:34
<muppis>
Does it use servers PAM anyway?
06:34
<elias_a>
muppis: One example like that would be the fingerprint reader of Thinkpads and pam.
06:35
<muppis>
elias_a, that would benice too.
06:35
be nice ..
06:35
<Appiah>
hmm
06:35
<elias_a>
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_enable_the_fingerprint_reader
06:36
<muppis>
elias_a, looks little outdated.
06:37
<elias_a>
Well, worked last time I tried it.
06:37
<Appiah>
when I experimented with mounting dirs at login I became prompted twice for the password (my fault) but this worked in the LDM
06:37
so if the client just supports the cardreader I dont think there wont be a problem
06:37
just try it on one of your servers and get the login working
06:37
after that try on the thin clients
06:38

is it possible to use multiple LIKE statements for a MAC-specified client in lts.conf?
06:56
<alkisg>
I think so. I think the only restriction is recursion, it's limited to 4 levels or something like that.
06:57
<pmatulis>
alkisg: thx, will try
07:13MorningSon has joined #ltsp
07:25
<pmatulis>
alkisg: no, multiple LIKE statements do not work. only the first is applied it seems. and neither can you do 'LIKE = group1, group2' (nor space separated)
07:25
alkisg: i didn't try recursive
07:31
alkisg: actually, scratch that. it does work
07:31

<Gadi>
maslak: I don't think anyone has implemented smartcard login with ldm
10:33
you would need to start with ssh compiled with smartcard support and perhaps trying LDM_SSHOPTIONS = "-I <smartcard_reader>"
10:33
but, then the greeter will probably freak out on you
10:33
:)
10:35
<stgraber>
Gadi: +1
10:36
<Gadi>
stgraber: does that mean you're gonna code up smartcard support in LDM 3.0 ?
10:36
;)
10:36
<stgraber>
nope
10:36
<Gadi>
lol
10:36
<stgraber>
maybe Sotty will add that to his new ssh backend plugin though
10:37
<Gadi>
maybe - if Scotty decides to come back to us
10:37
I think he's taken a job as Nanuck from the North
10:37
:)
10:37
<stgraber>
I'm pretty sure I can make it work now if I patch a good part of the greeter (or extend the protocol) + configure SSH but that's still hackish and not very likely to work with whatever we implement as the new backend
10:38
Spoke to him on jabber recently, he's trying to find some time to contribute again (which was kind of hard for him over the last 6-8 months). Will be great having him at the hackfest.

gr.. that doesn't sound good ;) it seems I'll need to write some kond of my own logon app... too much work to do ;)
11:17
I don't need to have login & pass screen it can be just image which shows to insert card and then do the rest via radius...
11:17
mine client hs such sollution on win and was interested if it's possible to move complete sollution into linux...
11:18
unfortunately ;(
11:19
maybe some of you - who are more oriented in this area could suggest me some sollution or try to figure it out - let's say it would be cnofigurable via lts.conf setting proper shell on selected tty ?

I have a question for anyone. I tried installing the Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 and then installing ltsp, but when I use the --kiosk flag to build the client, X fails to run. It's a default install and I've changed nothing else, anyone have an idea?
13:49
Building the client without the kiosk flag works just fine.
13:52mistik1_ has joined #ltsp

<staffencasa>
With the kiosk flag, it builds just fine, but does not run on the actual client machine. The error message cycles over and over but flashes out long enough for me to see that it's X but not exactly what it is. Could someone try it and see if it's not just me?

it's not either kiosk or fat clients, it's a more restricted variation on fat clients

hello.. new setup on ltsp based on the alternate cd. The client gets the dhcp IP but when it tries to get the image via tftp there is a timeout... could anybody enlighten me with a clue_
21:50
where to look for this issue
21:55
<pmatulis>
epaphus: sounds like the client cannot contact the tftp server
21:55
epaphus: are you pointing to it from dhcp? is it really listening?
21:56
<epaphus>
pmatulis, iam sure dhcp is working because its giving the right lease for the ip.

thats all i know

how can i check if tftp is running:?

doesn't really matter
22:03
just make sure you don't have 2 dhcp servers

you can get a good lease from one, and then not have it tell you the right tfp server
