s4el: ltsp is basically a way to PXE boot a system. most zero clients require their own thing.

<||cw>
if you want it to connect to an ltsp server for user sessions, you'll need to enable some protocol that it supports, but this will run next to ltsp, it won't be ltsp at all. it can probably use the same home dirs on the server though
13:48
though the T410 seems to be a pretty capable ARM system, maybe you can get one of the arm linux images to work on it
13:58
<s4el>

Here is just a thought... would it be possible to run a global LTSP cloud?
15:23
Say I had computer labs all throughout the world, and I wanted them to all run the same thing, from the same image or image sets, using global user sets, or even restrict certain resources by user, but all over the cloud? would that be possible?

bennabiy: short: sure. anything is possible
16:07
however, latency is going to kill you unless you have some serious bandwidth or a node at each location
16:07
the nodes could sync up images and configs
16:16
<vagrantc>
latency and bandwidth are two separate issues...

I am considering that each location would have a node, but to allow for the fluid or semi fluid movement between nodes with little to no need for resetting up in each location.

hi team
16:46
i'd like to know if there's something special with ldm's poweroff on thin client
16:46
<alkisg>
Meaning?
16:47
<yopla>
if I use halt instead, it doesn't powerof cleanly
16:47
via ldm's preferences halt it's ok
16:48
<alkisg>
halt doesn't poweroff
16:48
poweroff does
16:48
<yopla>
I try

yeah ! That was too simple ^^
16:54
<vagrantc>
well, halt on ubunntu doesn't poweroff
16:54
on debian, it still does
16:54
depends on your implementation of halt
16:57
<yopla>
indeed it is ubuntu
16:58
now something strange. The thin client isnt completly powered off
16:59
No more power led and display but still active fan
16:59
so it can"'t be power on :/

17:04

I've done this. I check with ldm if it is the same
17:05
yes it is the same.
17:05
<vagrantc>
alkisg: I may have overcommitted myself, regarding epoptes
17:05

I suspect motherboard specificity
17:05

vagrantc: meaning?
17:05
<vagrantc>
alkisg: i forgot that my old test environment is out of commission at the moment
17:06
<alkisg>
Ah. OK, no problem
17:06
<vagrantc>
alkisg: might not have time to test it
17:06
<alkisg>
We'll do much testing ourselves anyway, but you overlooking the changes would be most appreciated
17:06
<vagrantc>
alkisg: yeah, should be able to do that much
17:07
alkisg: i need to get my testing environments set up anyways, but it might take a bit.
17:08
<bennabiy>
vagrantc: Ultimately I hope to get something of that nature up and running, but need to get a little more familiar with cloud / openstack to make it happen.
17:08* bennabiy is interested in an updated epoptes :)
17:09
<alkisg>
The -threads and the $LANG changes are the most significant... better broadcasting, and locale support in the remote xterm command
17:09
(better == maybe even 2-3 times faster)
17:10
yopla: you might want to play with the acpi kernel parameters there: https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt
17:10
Or, you could also try poweroff -fp
17:12
<yopla>
alkisg: ty. I have try another PC with same result. I've done poweroff in console mode. It complains about read error on squashfs then hang.
