hi all, i have a Ubuntu 6.06 LTS server with LTSP 4.2 installed. After updated yesterday by official repository, the gdm login became stucked suddenly after typing in username and password, about 2-3 minutes, to completely login, can anyone help on it?
02:02
i suspected it was the Perl module i updated yesterday, i checked the process while the user logging in, it appeared like "/usr/bin/perl -w /usr/bin/ltspinfo -h ws013ltsp -c SOUND"

hi! i'm using gutsy gibbon and my setup is as follows -> ldap user authentication from ms server 2003 (active directory). after login i have made a script that mounts couple of network shares etc. the problem is that i have no idea how to unmount shares on logout (i don't know any files that are run on logout)?? currently they are "left open" when user logs out. all help is hugely appreciated!
06:46
<stgraber>
tuukka: You could use libpam-mount which should unmount at logout
06:46
I personally use kerberos for authentication then use the kerberos ticket with nautilus to use single-sign-on on the file server, so they simply have launcher pointing to smb://<server> on the desktop
06:47
<sep>
tuukka, or autofs, it's mounted on use, and umounted after idletime
06:53
<val_>
what means "Running /scripts/nfs-premount; nfsmount: need a path; retrying nfsmount"?

hmm ... sorry, i try understand these things (= newbie to linux world) so it takes a while :) ... i have a shared folder called Personal on win box. Personal-share contains folders for all our students and for our staff ( i maintain a schools it stuff ) and i would still like to mount the shares based on username (ie Tuukka Peltoniemi only has folder tuukka.peltoniemi ) so could i use autofs to solve this thing??
06:55
stgraber: where do i find (or what is) libpam-mount??

Good morning everyone! I'm wondering if the syslog or some other log maintains info on what specific users have done. If so, what log would that be and can I search it for just that user's actions? I'm looking for things like creating and deleting files, changing background, changing Firefox home page, etc. Thanks!

problem: ltsp thin client boots fine, no errors, but local drives do not appear on server end. I followed a lot of howtos such as [wiki.ubuntu.com/DebugLocalDev] and it checked out ok. I even modded the line at the bottom so I could mount my local drives to the server manually by passing '/var/run/drives' however I can't get it to happen automatically. Ubuntu 7.10, ltsp5 (or whatever is the newest for this distro). Any ideas?

side note: running ssh -X -S /var/run/ldm_socket_vt7_[server IP] [username]@[server IP] "/usr/sbin/ltspfsmounter /var/run/drives/ add" works manually after logging in, though the floppy checks every 5secs :P
13:52
<Gadi>
critola_: there is a bug in: /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/ldm/rc.d/S10-delayed-mounter
13:52
the "ssh" line there lacks a "-X"
13:52

13:52
<Gadi>
please add it in and run ltsp-update-image on the server
13:53
also, on the server, the file /usr/sbin/ltspfsmounter has a line that needs to be removed in which the DISPLAY env variable is hard set to localhost:10
13:53
remove that line

can anyone tell me if there is a configuration for plugging in storage or camera devices to thin client ports and making them available to the end user?

if cameras are in "storage" mode (i.e. acting as a usb storage device) it should be the same

Has anyone already implemented code to check if an ethernet interface already has DHCP on a network, so somebody setting up LTSP can be warned NOT to run DHCP server on that interface?

If you make it easy for someone to create a LTSP server, you probably want to warn them not to screw their network and some kneejerk bans Linux... =)
