stgraber: is the "old" style ltsp-cluster-control still under development?
10:33
or is the focus on the ltsp-cluster-control-ng
10:42
i was wondering because i want to try packaging ltsp-cluster on gentoo

Just can't get multiple dhcp-boot -settings work with dnsmasq.
12:58
If I set tag for client and try to use that offer correct pxelinux.0 file, it doesn't offer anything.

13:32
I need nvidia's closed source drivers for htpc.
13:35
<alkisg>
muppis: first of all I think nvidia's closed drivers can coexist with other drivers now, so maybe you can use a single chroot with a tiny startup script to remove the customized xorg.conf (or use a different X_CONF directive in lts.conf),
13:36
and second, try this: dhcp-mac=htpc,12:34:56:78:00:02
13:36
dhcp-boot=htpc,/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.0,server,<ip>
13:36
I.e. with dhcp-mac instead of dhcp-host
13:38
<muppis>
Other, but so far irrelevant, reason to keep separated chroots is my plan to strip htpc version as small as possible.
13:39
<alkisg>
Why? Does size matter? (in this case.. :D)
13:39
It's not directly related to RAM usage...
13:40
<muppis>
If you remember, it's booting over wlan.. ;)
13:40
<alkisg>
But again, it shouldn't matter
13:40
The disk may be 10 Gb and the client to only download 20M on boot
13:42
Disabling some services like update-apt-xapian-index etc would help a lot more than cutting down on the image size
13:43
<muppis>
Hmm.. Using dhcp-mac doesn't work either.
13:44
I think there's a bug in implementantion, as used dnsmasq is runned in dd-wrt based wlan-router.
13:46
<alkisg>
I tried dhcp-mac along with dhcp-ignore and it worked for me
13:48
<muppis>
Hmm.. Using tag in dhcp-boot even dns stops working.
13:49
Or am I mistyping here...
13:53
Nope.
13:56
Well.. I'll fix it with pxelinux configs.
13:57
<alkisg>
muppis: see full example here (the answer): http://lists.thekelleys.org.uk/pipermail/dnsmasq-discuss/2010q1/003626.html

Hmm...
14:09
To my second solution, is mac based default -file lookup removed or do I miss something? I was planning use that if I don't get dnsmasq working.
14:10
alkisg, funny. Now it works.
14:11
Changed line to dhcp-boot=net:htpc,....
14:17* muppis happy.
14:18
<muppis>
alkisg, you had menusystem on your pxe, right?
14:18
<alkisg>
Yup
14:18
<muppis>
I'm thinking I could do samekind for installers.
14:24
Have you ever done Windows installation that way?
14:28
<alkisg>
muppis: I've done windows installation with RSIS, and I believe there's a linux project that replaces RSIS so you can use that
14:28
But I don't think you can server a windows .iso over the network without patching it first...
14:29
There's also the fog project for cloning/backing up windows pcs that also uses pxe for booting
14:32
<muppis>
Ok.. I read once about RSIS, so I though if I could boot stripped ltsp, run script there which makes changes to hdd, drops i386 -fol... directory there and makes HDD to boot to installation.
14:33
<alkisg>
I think you could just backup a disk that contains i386 etc and use fog to clone it
14:33
No need to script anything this way
14:35
<muppis>
That's true.
14:36
But only Windows user here is my wife and she's getting over it, so maybe it just a waste of time..
14:39
<alkisg>
For just 2 clients, any excessive use of "automation" is a waste of time ;)
14:40
<muppis>
Well. It's a point of view. My plan is get htpc usage most simple, without kb and mouse.

<alkisg>
Sure, I meant automation in the sense of deploying an OS to multiple machines, deploying policies/settings etc, I don't think it's worth the trouble only for a few clients

knipwim: old ltsp-cluster still works but we don't really put much effort on it beside making sure it still works
19:42
we should have the client part of the new ltsp-cluster released soon enough and integrated with ltsp-trunk upstream
