hi
09:39
a few days ago, I've asked some details in the chan about the terminal LTSP 1220 PXE, sold on disklessworkstation.com
09:39
jammcq, the folks told you were the guy to ask for details about that term
09:40
<jammcq>
whaddya want to know about it?
09:40
<BlackDark>
does it's sound board supported by ubuntu/ltsp5 ?
09:41
<jammcq>
umm, I'm pretty sure it is. It's a via chipset. actually, eTyack is the expert on that, but he's on vacation until friday. Ogra has a 1220 that he's tested with. Dunno if he's around today.
09:41
<BlackDark>
the specs sheet page doesn't give any details about the audio board
09:41
did you test those terms ?
09:42
<jammcq>
I personally didn't test audio, but others (ogra,etyack) have
09:42
<BlackDark>
I meant the term itself
09:42
<jammcq>
and ogra is THE guy behind LTSP-5 on ubuntu
09:42
yes, I've got a 1220 at my office that I've used
09:42
<BlackDark>
some folks told me that the CN700 video chipset is quite slow,
09:43
<jammcq>
I don't know anything about CN700
09:43
<BlackDark>
it;'s the video chipset in the 1220
09:43
<jammcq>
hmmm, ogra has claimed it's quite fast
09:43
it's a thin client..... what are you trying to do?
09:43
I've got to run for about 15 minutes
09:43
(wife's calling me)
09:43
<BlackDark>
actually I want to get 2 terms for our desks at home
09:44
and from the terms
09:44
all two on the same machine

Q-FUNK: now when i finally upgrade to etch i noticed that my /home does not get mounted on bootup anymore ;) i guess it has something to do with etch mounting nfs filesystems only when network interface goes up (/etc/network/if-up.d/mountnfs). in my case the interface is up for the whole lifetime of the userland so maybe i just need some mount -a in rc.local :P
13:47
<Q-FUNK>
odd
13:48
<lindi->
Q-FUNK: but note that i'm still using my own initrd-less kernel
14:12
Q-FUNK: now managed to boot normal linux-image-2.6.18-4-486 over network :) still no /home thought but it should be easy to investigate by adding some set -x to the scripts
14:13
<Q-FUNK>
fstab ?
14:14
<lindi->
Q-FUNK: a mess but /home should be there correctly: http://rafb.net/p/L98sAT60.html
14:15
and now away to eat something...

Q-FUNK: but it says "Network file systems are mounted by /etc/network/if-up.d/mountnfs in the background when interfaces are brought up; this script waits for them to be mounted before carrying on."
15:29
<Q-FUNK>
ah
15:30
is the symlink there?
15:31
<lindi->
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 3726 Nov 26 2006 /home/tftpboot/dandelion/etc/network/if-up.d/mountnfs

interesting
15:43
lacking portmap in the chroot, maybe?
15:44
<lindi->
Q-FUNK: portmap seems to be happily running
15:45
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=433133
15:45
"Since the upgrade from 1:1.1.0-6, my system no longer mounts an NFS volume listed in my /etc/fstab during system boot"
15:49
<Q-FUNK>
lindi-: ouch. messy one.
15:50
<lindi->
yep
15:50
anyways, my "xdm starts fullscreen vnc viewer via ~/.xsession" setup seems to work well
15:51
normal user will think he's logging to a local computer and will just be amazed about how the applications survive reboot :P

the LBE asks for gcc-3.x.. how does one do it on a system (say Fedora7)

sbalneav, i tried to google for it... but didn't come up with anything
16:06
<sbalneav>
Highly likely, no work's been done on maintaining ltsp 4.2 for probably a year and a few months.
16:07
<indradg>
ok
16:09
<cliebow>
sbalneav:Howdy!!!
16:09
indradg, wazzup?
16:10
<indradg>
cliebow, i tried to build LTSP 4.2's LBE on Fedora 7 and miserably failed
16:11
cliebow, was thinking of rebuilding the kernel and adding bootsplash to that
16:11
<cliebow>
i see..must be missing some packages in the lbe?
16:12
<indradg>
cliebow, complained about gcc... saying it must be 3.x
16:12
IIRC 3.4
16:14
<cliebow>
ahh yes..i remember jammcq saying that you can install both 3.4 and 4 in same distro..
16:14
but i thought he hsd that fixed..
16:15
i had to export cc=3.something...then change it bacjk the first time
16:17
<indradg>
cliebow, ok
16:18
<cliebow>
it was so long ago...
16:18
you looked the wiki over?
16:19
<indradg>
cliebow, yes... i tried to follow the example given here -> http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/Build-LTSP-42
16:22
<cliebow>
did you catch jammcq?he might remember..though sbalneav was in the thick of it too..
16:23
<indradg>
cliebow, not yet! didn't really know who to ask :P

whic h was 3.2?
