hi all
10:56
I am trying to run a ltsp server (ubuntu gutsy) with only one interface.
10:56
I have a dhcp server on my lan and I added the options I find in /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf to that server
10:57
the thin client gets an ip address (of course) but it seems not to find the tftp server (that is on a different serrver then the dhcp server).
10:57
How can I specify the thin client server to look at the correct server ?
10:57dniel has joined #ltsp
10:57
<stgraber>
what are the lines you put in your dhcp server's config ?
10:58
<ace_suares>
option root-path "ip-of-server:/opt/ltsp/i386
10:58
<stgraber>
ok, do you have a next-server line ?
10:58
next-server 172.16.4.253;
10:58
filename "/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.0";
10:58
<ace_suares>
and the if{}else{} stuff that is in the
10:58
no no next-server
10:58
<stgraber>
that's what I have on my LAN with 172.16.4.253 as the thin client server
10:58
<ace_suares>
I can add that
10:59
I'll try
11:03
doesn't work
11:05
should work tough
11:08
nope
11:08
I don't see packets either
11:12
<stgraber>
that's weird as it works fine here, are you sure the next-server IP points to a reachable LTSP server and that you reloaded your dhcpd config ?
11:12
<ace_suares>
yeah
11:13
restarted dhcp3-server
11:13
did nmap -sU on the ltsp-server

I think there is a bug in the debian package. I have done a reinstall and the config set itself (again) to boot via NBD instead of NFS. Unfortunately I forgot the config file which controls this option. I thought it was under /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/initramfs-tools but I can't find it there...
16:01
anyone know which file controls the boot method of clients?
16:02
does this channel get logged anywhere? I asked the question a coupla days ago and got the right answer from a dev. If I could find the log...

17:02
i think....
17:02
<Munkie>
I think davicom is something to do with your network card?
17:03
<heliedgar>
i read the driver are broken
17:03
but where can i find aother one
17:03
another one
17:04
<Munkie>
Does your network card support PXE?
17:05
Heliedgar: I think Davicom is tha NIC maker. Try www.davicom.com.tw

17:08
http://www.davicom.com.tw/eng/download/Driver/driver_9102a.htm
17:09
<Munkie>
No mention of PXE so I guess it isn't supported. Shame, it does make things a lot easier
17:10
<heliedgar>
in this page say something about pxe
17:10
http://www.davicom.com.tw/eng/download/Driver/driver_9102a.htm
17:13
<Munkie>
Heliedgar: What kind of system is it? Thin client, PC, laptop, etc?
17:13
<heliedgar>
thin client
17:13
<Munkie>
have you looked in the bios for PXE or network boot options?
17:14
<heliedgar>
yes
17:14
only say wake on lan
17:15
<Munkie>
The file you showed me has a readme which says: While system booting up, DM9PCI PXE Boot ROM will display a greeting message,"
17:15
Do you see any bios messages on screen BEFORE booting?
17:16
<heliedgar>
noo
17:16
<Munkie>
What make/model thin client?
17:17
<heliedgar>
i an 350 mghz
17:17
128 ram
17:18
<Munkie>
Manufacturer? Dell, HP, Neoware, ?
17:19
<heliedgar>
no
17:20
<Munkie>
Its a PC?
17:20
<heliedgar>
yes
17:21
but has no manufacturer
17:22
<Munkie>
I'm not sure, but looking at the files you would first need to program the EEPROM using the dos progs on the site. Otherwise you could check the boot order in the BIOS to see if you see any kind of network option, they have different names such as UNDI resources, INT 18 boot so you will have to look around.
17:23
I have not used the floppy boot option so can't really help you with that
17:23
I must set more coffee, its late. brb
17:26
<heliedgar>
mmm ok
17:26
i'll try
17:26
tnks
17:26
<Munkie>
you're welcome
17:26
sorry I couldn't help more
17:27
<heliedgar>
it say Boot From lan First
17:29
<Munkie>
ok, the BIOS should be good. You will need a boot ROM on your NIC. Sometimes you get messages at POST that say PXE or something like that and press <some key> to boot from network. Only if you have the boot ROM on the card though!
17:30
<heliedgar>
here are a rom file
17:30
http://www.davicom.com.tw/eng/download/Driver/driver_9102a.htm
17:30
<Munkie>
I have an old 3com card and it says: Initializing MBA. Press Ctrl-Alt-B to configure...
17:32
<heliedgar>
how do i put that rom into a booteable floppy
17:32
?
17:33
<Munkie>
Do you have a dos boot floppy?
17:33
<heliedgar>
no
17:33
but i can make one
17:33
then??
17:33
<Munkie>
OK. Make one and boot from it. Then on another floppy, put the unzipped EEPROM programmer and one of the PXE roms
17:36
when you are in dos, put the floppy with EEPROM and ROM file and run the pgsrom file and see what it says
17:36
<heliedgar>
ok
