<ltspuser_38>
Hello. My terminal only boots when I'm using the 19'' monitor...
09:13
when I use an old one the terminal doesn't boot...
09:13
I think it's the resolution...
09:14
but I don't know how to change it...
09:26
<Hyperbyte>
ltspuser_38, hi
09:27
Several things:
09:27
Read up on the XRANDR_ entries in lts.conf
09:27
!lts.conf
09:27
<ltsp>
lts.conf: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/lts.conf
09:27adrianorg_ has joined IRC (adrianorg_!~adrianorg@186.213.156.95)
09:27
<Hyperbyte>
There are other X* options in there that might be useful.
09:28
Also this might help:
09:28
!nomodeset
09:28
<ltsp>
nomodeset: Unfortunately, Kernel Mode Setting (KMS) doesn't work well with some cards. To disable it, open /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default and replace "quiet splash" with "nomodeset".
09:28
<Hyperbyte>
And you could as well do this, to get a root prompt on the terminal instead of graphical login and do some further debugging:
09:28
!screen_02
09:28
<ltsp>
screen_02: To get a root shell on an Ubuntu thin client: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/ClientTroubleshooting#Using_a_shell_SCREEN
09:29
<Hyperbyte>
Should get you going in the right direction...

<ltspuser_38>
only one question: what nomodeset do?
09:38
<Hyperbyte>
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_Mode_Setting
09:39
http://wiki.debian.org/KernelModesetting
09:39
That is technical explanation of kernel mode setting. nomodeset disables it.
09:40
Since whatever you are modifying on the LTSP server for this, will not break the server, you can just experiment with different settings, and if they don't give desired results, undo them
09:40
Tip: make backups of files before you edit them.

hi alkisg, is it normal / is easy to fix that when /usr/bin/startkde is run after ldm login, the user does not have the "ownership" of his home? It's this that breaks the "lnusertemp" work
10:40
<alkisg>
markit: I don't think that's true, but /me has to go now, bbl
10:40alkisg is now known as work_alkisg
10:40
<markit>
bye :)
10:41
anyone that knows hot this stuff work? I mean, if when the /usr/bin/startWHATEVER runs, the home does already belong to the user?
10:41
and if not if can be fixed?
10:45
<rickogden>
using ltsp-pnp, if I don't remove a user before building the image, will that allow that user to login to the LTSP client locally?
10:46bauerski has left IRC (bauerski!~witekb@frodo.psp.opole.pl, Quit: Leaving.)
10:46
<markit>
rickogden: I don't (yet) use -pnp, but I do hope that authentication is done by the server, and /home is on the server too
10:46
<rickogden>
markit: yes it is normally
10:47bauerski has joined IRC (bauerski!~witekb@frodo.psp.opole.pl)

<rickogden>
I just want to be able to log into the client to do some debugging
10:47
<ltspuser_38>
the LDM screen must be the SCREEN_07??
10:47bauerski has left IRC (bauerski!~witekb@frodo.psp.opole.pl, Client Quit)
10:47
<ltspuser_38>
because when I choose the SCREEN_02 the terminal doesn't boot
10:47
<markit>
rickogden: maybe an SCREEN_02=true in lts.conf can help
10:48
rickogden: then you should be able to activate the terminal console as (local) root
10:48
<rickogden>
markit: I can get a local login screen, but obviously won't let me login as there is no loginable user in /etc/passwd
10:48
<markit>
ltspuser_38: beware that screen_02 is "reserved" for text console
10:48
<rickogden>
I'm going to give it a shot by not removing a user
10:49
<markit>
rickogden: don't you login as root?
10:49
automatically I mean
10:49
when you enter the screen_02
10:49
<rickogden>
oh right, no
10:49
<ltspuser_38>
wich SCREENs can I use?
10:50
<markit>
ltspuser_38: don't know... do you really have to change the _07 default?
10:50
<ltspuser_38>
no...
10:50
I can use SCREEN_07
10:50
<markit>
so don't change it :)
10:50
<ltspuser_38>
ok
10:50
:P
11:07
With ubuntu 12.04 and a LDM session I can do login with the same user in different clients... How can I disable that? If the user do the login in another client the last session that is open should be terminated...
11:08
<ogra_>
man lts.conf ... iirc there is an option for it
11:11
<ltspuser_38>
iirc?

I have a terminal and the boot stucks on Ubuntu's splash screen...
11:26
is loading and it's stuck
11:26
why?
11:26
could be the terminal?

with the other terminals that I have here this scenario works...

11:30
<alkisg>
rickogden: no, ltsp-pnp doesn't put the server users in the chroot, it removes them before publishing the disk. But you can use SCREEN_02=shell to login as root, and then create a local user.
11:32
<markit>
ltspuser_38: in lts.conf set LDM_LIMIT_ONE_SESSION=True
11:33
ltspuser_38: this is the answer about the fact that you can connect in multiple clients with the same account
11:33
but every connection drops existing one
11:33
the solution is... create "n" accounts with secret password ;P
11:33
<ltspuser_38>
I removed splash screen and stuck in eth0: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex...
11:34
and this message is shown every 5 seconds...
11:37
<markit>
ltspuser_38: I've no idea, if other clients work, I would try rebooting the server and starting only that broken client just to be sure, maybe changing cable / switch port with one that works with a different client
11:37
btw, I've to go back to work, sorry
