Hi, I'm using LTSP-4.2 on a 64Bit OpenSuse 10.2 machine. It works great but I'm not able to start local-dev-support . When I plug in a USB-Device at the Thin-Client, the Icon pops up on the Desktop, but the drive seems to be emtpy. Any suggestions?

the main advantage of newer releases, to me, seems to be libc6 2.6, which is noticably faster and more sane than older libc6.
08:31
<Guaraldo>
Gadi: pastebot is out too...
08:32
<Gadi>
out how?
08:32
the site comes up
08:32
does it just not post to the channel?
08:32
<Guaraldo>
Gadi: Yep, but the bot is not on-line...
08:32
<Gadi>
sonjag: after you paste, copy the link into the channel
08:37
<sonjag>
gadi: couldn't run it. There are now all kinds of hung processes for the user. I tried pkill -u <user> but the processes remain. I didn't get to run the strace. Help?!!
08:41
<Gadi>
sonjag: can you paste the results of: ps -ef |grep <username> to pastebot.ltsp.org
08:42tiagovaz has joined #ltsp
08:42
<moquist>
sonjag: hi!
08:43
<ltsppbot>
"sonjag" pasted "ps -ef | grep 13sherr" (12 lines) at http://pastebot.ltsp.org/334
08:43
<sonjag>
moquist: hey, how's life one town over?
08:44
Gadi: http://pastebot.ltsp.org/334
08:45
<moquist>
sonjag: hectic. how's it over there? :)
08:45
<Gadi>
so, sonjag, you see this line: 13sherr 5280 1 0 Oct25 ? 00:00:05 /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin -writer -splash-pipe=5
08:45
thats telling you that the user already has/had ooffice open
08:45
which is most likely why it doesnt spawn another
08:46
seems there are lots of lingering processes rom Oct25
08:46
er, from
08:46
<moquist>
sonjag: do you have xterminator installed?
08:46
<sonjag>
gadi: how can I stop it? pkill didn't do it!
08:46
<moquist>
xterminator cleans that stuff up...
08:46
<Gadi>
this one, shows you that nautilus has gone zombie: 13sherr 14875 1 0 09:27 ? 00:00:02 [nautilus] <defunct>
08:46
sonjag: try: pkill -9 -u 13sherr
08:47
<sonjag>
moquist: not on this server... ARGH! That's not on my server set up list. Will do that now. Will it just start up or do I need to manually start it?
08:47
<moquist>
sonjag: it runs when a user logs in, and kills all the user's *other* processes.
08:47
so you just have to install it.
08:47
<sonjag>
Gadi: ahhhh, no more 13sherr running :)
08:47
<moquist>
it's not in the repos, so you have to add a repo to your sources.list
08:48
<sonjag>
moquist: will install... I have the site that you explained the process... will follow that (did it on Mendel, but I just reinstalled Crick so it's missing on there.)
08:49
Thanks for all the help guys :) I owe you a beer :)
08:49
<moquist>
sonjag: FWIW, we tried for a couple days and gave up on winbind for now in production [out of time, other priorities]. Works great in the test lab, but not in production [for us].
08:49
sonjag: I'm sure it can work, but we're not there yet.
08:50
sonjag: you coming down to UDS at all?
08:50
<sonjag>
moquist: working fine here (little glitches). Just got server version to work, have 2 servers running sharing home folders. Crashing has subsided (knock on wood!!)
08:51
<moquist>
sonjag: Oh, I was talking about winbind+SFU with Linux home directories.
08:51
<sonjag>
moquist: breathing again almost regularly ;) Not sure about UDS... where/when? Probably should... need to get better at this (Gadi gave me an RTFM :)
08:51
<moquist>
Winbind by itself is fine.
08:51
sonjag: google "UDS cambridge"
08:52* Gadi most certainly did not, sonjag ;)
08:52
<sonjag>
moquist: Ahhh... SFU is installed but I'm not using it. I'm running NFS shares and copy IDMAP files daily to match UID/GID. Kludge, but works.
08:52
Gadi: fess up :)
08:52
<Gadi>
:P
08:52
<moquist>
sonjag: Yeah, that's the messy old way to do it. :(
08:53
sonjag: Would quickly become ewwwwwwyucky if you tried to roll out Linux desktops. :(

moquist: thanks for the yay! I'm thrilled too... been a bad 2 weeks of hard restarts. Is Gutsy going to buy any better integration with ADS? I'm actually thinking of going SAMBA/LDAP but for the time being, can't shake the cart that hard!!
08:59
<moquist>
sonjag: dunno if ajmitch finally delivered an AD client config tool or not. It's been in the works for...2+ years now(?).

Blinny, i don't believe so... why do you want to run 32-bit?
12:47
<vagrantc>
Blinny: there's probably a kernel that supports a lot of memory
12:48
<Blinny>
I don't want to mess with the plugins for FF. Maybe just run a 32-bit FF ?
12:49
<joebob777as7>
Blinny, i am running 64 bit on my desktop with 4gb of ram and my FF plugins are working great.
12:49
vagrantc, have you seen an issue with some users logging in and seeing a black desktop? It seems to happen to us when a client logs off improperly by shutting down the computer because they can't log off with the log out button..
12:50
<Blinny>
joebob777as7: Good on ya. I am running 64-bit on my FC6 machine and my FF plugins mostly sorta mostly work great. Until Java tries to load, or some javascript things cause a Total System Failure.
12:50
I'm trying to simplify.
12:52
<joebob777as7>
gotcha. you'll probably have to do what vagrantc said and find a kernel that supports it for 32-bit

22:19
the sound work everywhre but on flash aplications
22:19
<vagrantc>
flash is a constant problem because it's not free software.
22:20
which means that we cannot fix problems as easily when they happen.
22:20
<John_Titor>
you mean then that is a common issue?
22:20

very common, yes.
