I have a 64 bit ltsp server and I generated 32 bit client image. When I boot the client with gpxe, I get an error "Failed to connect to NBD server"
NBD server is running ont he server machine
Try catch does client try to connect and which port. Deafult should be 2000, but sometimes (when arch differs) hits wrong port.
muppis: I tried connecting to nbd-server from client using this command "nbd-client 192.168.2.4 /dev/nbd0 -persist" . I get an error "nbd0: unknown partition table"
the gpxe is not autobooting
I have to manually specify kernel, initrd and boot at gpxe command line
I am using usb image from rom-o-matic/etherboot
Sounds like you got somehow corrupted imade.

Hi - I am writing a short Finnish Howto on Ubuntu LTSP installation. Is there an up-to-date version of hw requirements? I have seen several instances of calculation schemes but I do not know which I should refer to.
Would this be the best one? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements#LTSP%20thin-client%20computers
Sorry... this one: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToCookEdubuntu/Chapters/HardwareRequirements

both, only in the softphone, others prograns running on server the sounds perfect
can you set the softphone to use pulse?
pulse works with program running locally?
it should, I believe
ok, I'll try after my lunch, thanks a lot for your attention
alternatively, you can try installing pulseaudio-utils in the chroot and run: pasuspender -- /path/to/softphone
actually, I think someone else here with a softphone wound up doing that
good, thanks again
bye, i'll come back later...

Login. Its only two of my twelve machines.

|11:21||vagrantc has joined #ltsp|
I get to the LDM LoGIN SCreen , But no matter what user I use, it goes back to the login screen
sidartha: it might be a compiz problem, do you see an entry in /var/log/auth.log ?
i dont see anything about compiz. Here is a section of the log
|11:31||Faithful has quit IRC|
sidartha: is this from a problematic client? "Sep 13 12:27:52 ubuntuARTROOM-LTSP sshd: Accepted password for blue from 192.168.0.30 port 35267 ssh2"
I mean, if it accepts the password, then it's a session problem, possibly compiz
alkisg: "compiz" :: if compiz is giving you problems, one way to disable it for all users is: sudo gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory --type string --set /desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager metacity
ill try that
that did it.. Thanks again

alright I have another problem.
|11:43||jhutchins_lt has joined #ltsp|
I installed Chromium in chroot and have it running as a local app, however whenever I reboot the machine I have to set it up as if I opened it again for the first time.
Its not saving its session
AFAIK chromium doesn't work with sshfs (the default with localapps), it needs nfs
|11:50||otavio has joined #ltsp|
I changed include this string in LTS.CONF [NFS_HOME=/home] Do I have to add another directory for it to save its session?
No, but did you export /home from your server?
If you didn't, then it still uses sshfs...
|11:52||pmatulis has joined #ltsp|
(and, you didn't add the square brackets there, did you?)
no square brackets. How do I export /home?
|11:57||pmatulis has quit IRC|
|11:57||pmatulis has joined #ltsp|
sidartha: Be careful if you use nfs off of an ubuntu server: their rcp.stad is buggy.
|11:58||bobby_C has joined #ltsp|
Sounds Like I should just stick with Firefox? Know of a way to sync extensions, bookmarks?
echo '/home *(rw,sync,no_subtree_check)' >> /etc/exports
That exports /home...
And I'm also using NFS_HOME_OPTIONS=defaults,nolock in lts.conf to bypass that statd problem
(nolock ==> users shouldn't open the same file for writing simultaneously)
(it's only a work around, and not a good one, but it works for me)
Ah, and sudo apt-get install nfs-kernel-server
alkisg: the reason I am using chromium is because of the sync ability. Do you think I should stay with firefox, and just install addons individualy?
How much ram on your clients?
Both would do, it's a personal choice...
|12:04||mistik1 has joined #ltsp|
|12:07||Gadi has left #ltsp|
alkisg: I expoted /home and added NFS_HOME_OPTIONS=defaults, but chromium is still not saving sessions, How can I chech if NFS /home is set up?
alkisg: "localxterm" :: while sitting on a thin client, open a gnome terminal. In that, run: ltsp-localapps xterm. An xterm will open. That xterm runs locally, so any commands you enter there are executed directly on the client.
sidartha: on a localxterm, run `mounts` and see if /home is mounted with nfs
Erm, mount, not mounts
I dont see /home listed
So it's not mounted with nfs
$ cat /var/lib/nfs/etab
This tells you if it's exported on the server
I think I made a duplicat /home export? How can I delete one of them.
it is exported to the server
sudo gedit /etc/exports
fix it, and run sudo exportfs -ra
|12:29||otavio has quit IRC|
|12:29||otavio has joined #ltsp|
|12:30||otavio has joined #ltsp|
ok I fixed it and ran sudo exportfs -ra, and it says /home *(rw,sync,wdelay,hide,nocrossmnt,secure,root_squash,no_all_squash,no_subtree_check,secure_locks,acl,anonuid=65534,anongid=65534)
But It stiil not mounting on local
Can you paste your lts.conf? Also, is this Lucid?
http://pastebin.com/spam.php?i=iaWdrXC0 This is Lucid
What does `status statd` tell you on the server?
Also, remove /home from LOCAL_APPS_EXTRAMOUNTS
(and, until you get it right, you may want to try: NFS_HOME_OPTIONS=defaults,nolock)
(a client reboot is needed - logoff won't do it)
statd start/running, process 3634
and still not mounting
made lts.conf changes
Try getting a local root screen on the client and mounting /home somewhere else manually:
In lts.conf, add:
Reboot client, and at ldm press alt+ctrl+f2, you'll get a local root console
mount -t nfs server:/home /tmp/home
wron fs type....error
wrong fs type
is nfs-common installed in the chroot?
installing it know
(remember to run ltsp-update-image)
alkisg: nfs-common is needed, yes?
On my notes in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/FatClients I have nfs-client, let me see in my sch-scripts code...
You're right, nfs-client is obsolete, I should change that to nfs-common, thanks :)
bingo that worked.. Thank Both Of you.

Hi, I was here a few hours ago asking about hp tf5700 video driver. The card states (From lspci) ATI Rage LX, the spec sheet says ati rage lx. its an 8mb card. I dont know what driver i am currently using but i have managed to get better resoultion by copying the entire mode line from one I found elsewhere. I dont understand the mode line so i cannot tell if it is the good thing to do or not.
anyone have a link to modify the rdesktop screens script to modify the refresh time
cole2: a mode line works, but XRANDR_MODE_0 doesn't?
Through all my Reading I have never seen XRANDR_MODE_0 how do I use this?
alkisg: "lts.conf" :: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/lts.conf
See the docs :)
Could someone tell me the correct english word for this? Suppose that a school has 60 first-grade students, and they are divided into 3 groups of 20, and each group has its own classroom. What are those groups called? Classes?
sounds good to me
alkisg: have you ever heard anything the refresh rate of the rdesktop script?
What refresh rate? Of the screen, e.g. 60Hz?
Thanks, I dont know why i have never seen the whole section before. I will do some reading and try it out a little later on.
|15:32||paal- has joined #ltsp|
alkisg: no the rdesktop client waits a few minutes then "refreshes"
thunsucker: that's not related to the script
The windows server closes the connection because it assumes it's idle
You can change that in the windows server settings. I found the setting once, but never again :D
....so people here make a loop in the rdesktop script so that X doesn't die on each disconnection...
logonui.exe is putting a heavy load on our ts server cpu's
so we're looking at alternatives
