Do thin clients run the RC_LOCAL commands in lts.conf? Trying to figure out where would be the best place to start pulseaudio for fat client screen scripts

<gp>
Or maybe a better place to start, is it a bug that the fat client screen scripts like xfreerdp and xterm are started without a running pulseaudio daemon?
12:35
I am using Ubuntu 14.04 and the ts.sch.gr ppa
12:38
and LTSP-PNP
12:40
Since the screen scripts are running as the root user I was thinking I could just start pulseaudio as root via the lts.conf rc_local and that would fix the issue

<andyc>
have an issue. I've just got a http://www.ebuyer.com/654664-gigabyte-brix-gb-bxbt-2807-baytrail-celeron-n2807-hdmi-barebone-gb-bxbt-2807 when i try to boot from pxe it fails at "invalid arguement for -config" .. i read something about needing an absolute path. The setup works to vmware pxe clients.
13:29
any help appreciated - will tip
13:32
<gp>
work_alkisg: I did try padsp. I still got the same errors. The pulseaudio daemon wasn't running. Once I started pulseaudio I didn't need to specify anything. The xfreerdp program detects and used pulseaudio by default
13:34
work_alkisg: I am not super familiar with how sound works. I've always relied on it being set up automatically. So if that doesn't make sense, I am happy to try any other debugging steps if it might be a bug in LTSP
13:38
<andyc>
i fixed my issue by adding X_VIRTUAL_AUTO=false to ltf.conf
13:38
thanks

I did read the warning here: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/User/WhatIsWrongWithSystemWide/
13:43
So that has me nervous
13:47
Maybe the better solution would be to run screen scripts as a user other than root?
13:47
Although xterm needs to be run as root

<alkisg>
gp, yes, ideally each xfreerdp or even xterm screen should be ran as some auto-generated user, e.g. ltsp-screen01, ltsp-screen02 etc
14:49
Then pulse could be ran inside that, so that when one switches the vt, the sound would be switched as well
14:50
If you only run one xfreerdp session and it doesn't auto-launch pulse as root, then you could run it like thin clients do, by tinkering with the ltsp init scripts a bit

<gp>
So I am trying to decide how I should proceed. If I modify the xfreerdp screen script to create a user based on the current tty, su to that user, and then start pulseaudio before running the xfreerdp command is that something that would be used upstream? or should i write a new screen script?
15:46
And will that approach work for thin and fat clients?
