vagrantc: does buster use resolvconf instead of systemd-resolve? How would I install buster at this point, by editing sources.list in stretch? (I think there's no debian-installer yet, right?)

vagrantc: does buster use resolvconf instead of systemd-resolve? How would I install buster at this point, by editing sources.list in stretch? (I think there's no debian-installer yet, right?)
07:48
<vagrantc>
alkisg: installer images for debian-installer daily images support buster ... there was also a release candidate, but it might be getting a bit old
07:49
alkisg: but you could also just install stretch and upgrade
07:49
<alkisg>
I do have stretch, but sometimes some packages are not supposed to be installed, and are left there because of upgrades
07:49
<vagrantc>
alkisg: as to which is used, it might be neither by default ... depends on what package sets you install
07:49
<alkisg>
So e.g. I'm afraid an upgrade won't tell me if resolvconf is the default
07:50
E.g. a usual debian+gnome tasksel selection...
07:50
<vagrantc>
i don't install that very often ... so best to just try

07:51
<alkisg>
Richard reported that ltsp was working fine in buster, but he was using resolvconf, and got me thinking :)
07:51
Thanks, will try when I finish with 18.04
07:51
<vagrantc>
the mini.iso is the easiest
07:51
unless you want to set up network boot

alkisg: of course, using the daily images sometimes have glitches that make them unusable
08:17
alkisg: but you can go up a few directory levels to get earlier ones too
08:18
<alkisg>
vagrantc: thanks, I'll give them a go
08:40
Damn ltspfsmounter makes udev hang even when a cd is inserted while the client boots
08:41
It's trying to loop-mount it for root even though no users have logged in, and fails
08:41
I wonder when that broke...
08:42
<vagrantc>
i forget why it does that ... maybe kiosk or remote-apps or something
08:42
<alkisg>
I think we'd have noticed it if it did that in the past, it should only have been broken for a couple of years now
08:43
I mean, it's ok if it mounts things, but breaking udev, .... nope
08:43
<vagrantc>
sure
08:43
<alkisg>
udevadm settle now waits 1 minute before giving up, delaying boot in the meantime

<quinox>
alkisg: I installed LTSP inside a fresh 18.04 VM and booted real clients from it, it works like a charm, including shutdown
15:45
I am using my own DHCP and I didn't install epoptes, so I didn't test those things
15:46
Unless you think there are blocking issues I can bump my real server to 18.04 this Saturday
15:48alkisg has joined IRC (alkisg!~alkisg@ubuntu/member/alkisg)
15:49
<alkisg>
quinox: the one big thing that I have left is that ltspfsdmounter delays client boot 1 minute if there are CDs inserted. I don't know about USB sticks, maybe there too.
15:50
quinox: also, I think you didn't see the issue with libreoffice not starting :D But I solved that today
16:03
<quinox>
lol
16:03
how did that happen?
16:06GodFather has joined IRC (GodFather!~rcc@174-081-217-069.dhcp.chtrptr.net)
16:06
<quinox>
I see, apparmor
16:06
<alkisg>
I'm not sure what the problem is exactly, but libreoffice didn't start on fat clients, and disabling the apparmor service worked around the issue
16:07
Btw the ltspfsmounter issue only happens on thin clients and can be worked around by setting LOCALDEV=False
16:07
So I'm inclined to just leave it be, until someone that actually uses LOCALDEV comes pinging :D

16:12
<quinox>
I only have fat clients, and none have cd drives
16:13
looking up libreoffice and apparmor result in numerous search results
16:13
I've never felt the need to look at using apparmor
16:14
<alkisg>
Me neither :)
16:15
I was just glad to find the workaround in only two hours! :(
16:15
ltspfs isn't used in fat clients, so no problem with cd drives etc at all
16:21
quinox: btw, 18.04.1 is going to be released in 3 days, so it's good timing for a new installation
